Hapi-Go!

Hapi-Go! is an amateur cycling team in OBRA (the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association), based around Portland, OR. We originally started with a couple of riders from Scio, a couple from Portland, and a few from just across the river in the Vancouver/Camas/Washougal area. Now we have quite a few from Portland, and a larger group from the Washington side of the river. But Portland is central to racing, and pretty central to the team, so it's fair to call ourselves a Portland team. Our team really grew up around CX, though as soon as a cross season is in the books, we encourage our newer races to branch out, try MTB or road (or even track).... It doesn’t take much pushing to get enthusiastic new riders (especially juniors) who have been at the races every weekend for 3 months to be wondering what they’re going to do until next fall, and looking into other racing disciplines. So the team just supports the riders interests, and tries to introduce them to the new disciplines. A few of us have done track, and we’d like all of our team to get their chance at that during the summer. We also do the Portland Short Track in the summer. Some of our more adventuresome (or crazy) teammates (teenage boys) have tried (or plan to try this season) Super D’s (we all enjoy going downhill fast, but "fast" is a relative term). Hapi-Go! is very junior-friendly and family centered team, with probably more juniors than adults on our roster, plus up-and-coming kiddie racers getting ready for juniors. We love encouraging people to get their kids into cycling, but we also have some juniors getting their parents into it. We try to organize one week-night and one weekend team ride each week in the off season (mainly MTB), but if your looking for a team with certified coaches and spin classes and lots of sponsors, you’ve come to the wrong place. Cycling is a good way to stay active and healthy, but we enjoy spending time together on or off the bike.
