Keeping an eye on the two white snakes, Haou thanked whoever he was supposed to for the Lightâs change in apparence. The king had to admit, it was much easier to hate the Light when he wasnât wearing the mask of his possessed best friend. Although he felt bad for the poor soul whoâs face he used now. He sensed a flicker of pity from the dark being before it was quickly snuffed. The angry energy from Tenebros shifted to frustration as the dark being leaned his face a few inches from the Lightâs with another warning hiss. Haou could see the dangerous glow of the gold eyes they shared.
âThis is his real form. Sophocles played this innocent act on me before. In another cycle maybe this bullshit wouldâve worked. Certainly not after the list of threats heâs issued tonight.â Tenebros thought to Haou, the voice on edge. His eyes narrowed as he watched Sophoclesâ micro expressions, waiting to see if the mention of France would garner a reaction. Since the Dark had a majority of the Lightâs attention, why not see if he could get answers?
âHe says if you wanted to make that last threat valid you shouldnât have shown me your true form. And if France hadnât happened he might be more inclined to believe your acting. â Haou couldnât help the mocking lilt to his voice now that he knew the Lightâs real name. He didnât know what happened in France, but if it would steal Sophoclesâ attention from killing him, Haou was up for anything.Â
Sophocles snarled in response to Tenebrosâ hissing. And he couldnât help rolling his eyes at the France comment. âCanât you just let it go, darling? Honestly, any other man would have backed off, and yet you remain so persistent. Wait until Attondel finds out that you just canât keep your hands off of me,â he cruelly teased, smirking at the pissed off Darkness. This new look was easily becoming one of the Lightâs favorites, along with the look of horror everytime Sophocles slaughtered the Darkâs little dolls in front of him.
âAnd honestly, I do think youâre forgetting one little thing, dear dear Tenebros. You canât see in bright light, remember?â He growled, before his body emitted a bright flash.
Using the small window of time he had, Sophocles brought one foot up to Tenebrosâ stomach to shove the Dark off of him. Then he quickly grabbed his staff and swung at Haou again, a mad giggle slipping past his lips. âDonât think I forgot about you, little doll. I just got sidetracked, thatâs all. Now I get to play with you again!â
He heard another guttural hiss from Tenebros before his vision went white. Haou shielded his eyes from the bright light as best he could while he tried to keep an eye on where the light being was. Sophia knows what kind attack the Sophocles could pull off with more light abounding.Â
âShit!â
The king tuck and rolled, barely missing the wild swing of the staff. Still he was on the low ground for a split second to long and had to bring his sword up to stop Sophoclesâ staff from breaking his skull. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Tenebros lying motionless on his side with his back to the present confrontation.Â
Not bothering to use their mental link, Haou yelled, âTenebros, get up!â
No answer and no movement. Haou swore again.
He returned his full gaze back to the Light of Destruction, âdo you always talk like a demented five year old?â
Haou knew he had to take matters into his own hands like he always did. He shifted his feet and gathered up his strength to kick Sophoclesâ in both shins to knock him off balance. Today of all days, Haou was glad he wore metal boots.
Sophocles snarled when Haou rolled out of the way, scarlet eyes glaring at the king and his teeth bared in a growl. But that was cut short as he fell, the wind being knocked out of him from hitting the ground.
He struggled to get up for a moment, mostly due to the incessant giggling. He looked up, a crazed smile on his face as he laughed, âAw, donât like being treated like a child? Maybe you shouldnât have acted like one for your first appearance, then?â
Sophocles stood up, grabbing his staff as it shifted, becoming his trademark scythe. âAnd fun fact, dipshit. By mortals times, Iâm actually not even that old. Iâm technically just barely 10 in mortal years, I think? Isnât it hilarious that you get so riled up by a kid?â
He stepped back, holding his hand up and with a smirk, he snapped his fingers. He disappear from in front of Haou, only for a snicker to come from behind the king. âDamn, when you get focused on something, you get so blind to everything else. I wonder,â the Light cooed, planting the blade of his scythe next to Tenebrosâ head. âWhat would happen to a champion if their immortal were to die? Especially considering you should have been rotting in your grave in the first place?â
Haou whirled around searching for the Lightâs voice. He kept the sword trained between him and the Light as he thought as quick as he could to get Tenebros away from the Light⌠Or at least wake the hell up to defend himself.
Could immortals kill each other? Would Tenebros dying really affect the king in this state?
He had no clue.
What had seemed to work was distracting Sophocles with insults and misdirection. Haou had to give him other things to pay attention to.
âYou wonât kill him. Youâve probably had plenty of chances in your lives and you still havenât had the guts to do it. You can act all high and mighty and childish, but youâre still an ancient old man, clinging to old rivals just to get some damn attention,â the king snarled, his piercing gold eyes glowing and fixed on Sophoclesâ.
That was until Tenebrosâ head lulled, his neck incidentally pressing itself into the blade. Tiny beads of what Haou assumed was black blood trickled down Tenebrosâ neck as murmured something in his catatonic state.
Sophoclesâ grin grew before he stuck his tongue out at the king, another snicker slipping out, âI canât fault you for being right. If youâve noticed, Tenebros and I happen to be opposites. If he disappears, then so do I. And unfortunately for you, I have a ton more things to do before my eventual death.â
He happily returned the kingâs glare until Tenebros murmured something, drawing the Lightâs attention as he kneeled down next to the Darkness. His hand gently lifted Tenebrosâ head up, a glove having appeared wrapped around his skin to give them a barrier. His gaze was soft for a moment before it shifted back to his more mischievous smirk.
âCome on, T. Why donât you wake up and join the fun already? Youâre making me look desperate,â the Light teased before letting him lay back on the ground and standing up himself. He dusted off his knees before throwing another smile at Haou, this time a little more bittersweet.
âIâll leave my scythe here, so T stays under control while I deal with you again. And we might want to hurry, cause who knows when Attondel when get here~?â
Safe to say that the king felt befuddled seeing the light being go from a twisted manipulator to... Whatever the hell he just did with Tenebros before returning to normal.
And Sophocles really left his weapon down? Yes it was pinning Tenebros to the ground (for heaven's sake the scythe was taller than Tenebros), but now what did Sophocles intend to fight with?
How did Haou intend to fight against a millennia old immortal?
Perhaps, Haou thought, Sophocles' gift for twisting guilt, deception, and ruin in others was from firsthand experience receiving it.
Flicking his eyes between the two immortals in front of him, Haou side stepped a bit closer to Tenebros. He had a plan forming, but first he had to see if he could get Sophocles to roll with it unknowingly.
"I could only guess this Attondel is as demented as you. I do wonder how he fits in with whatever transpired between you and the Gentle Darkness. Maybe I was wrong earlier," Haou took one more tiny step towards Tenebros, "maybe Tenebros wasn't the one to leave. Maybe you left Tenebros for nothing and that's why no mortal believes in him. Ask any mortal and they'd think he was merely force of nature... When in reality he hides in the shadows hoping one day that you, Mr. Light of Destruction, would give him the time of day."
