the season begins, as it always does, with a flourish of silks, secrets, and sorcery. every corner of the ton brims with anticipation as the yearโs debutantes are trotted out like prize fillies- each one hoping to dazzle with her charms (both magical and otherwise), and each mama hoping for a title, a fortune, and perhaps most importantly, a formidable lineage to match.
while the house of heron prepares its own festivities in typical fashion, and the queenโs court whispers of a most enchanting first ball, one cannot help but notice the arrival of an irish family new to london's glittering shores. yes, reader, the decidedly and most suddenly extended fitzgerald clan have descended upon us- taking up residence with the ever-reclusive and questionable in financial securement viscount marmaduke fitzgerald of honeybramble. three daughters and one son of respectable magical heritage, if unbeknownst to them. their parents, the previously cucumberish and newly full of juice mr. and mrs. fitzgerald, find themselves with quite the task at hand: settling into proper society, appearing within the duties therein transferred as viscount and viscountess, and marrying off their two eldest girls of age in a city that views newcomers withโฆ let us say, curiosity.
the elder twin, miss georgianna, has been carefully groomed for conquest as is proper. but it is the younger twin, miss harriet fitzgerald, who has already begun to raise eyebrows. a bluestocking of the most determined variety, she seems far more interested in the properties of potions than the properties of eligible gentlemen. whispers suggest she spent the boat journey from ireland with her nose buried in botanical texts rather than practicing her curtsy.
one must wonder: will miss harriet fitzgerald set aside her scholarly pursuits long enough to avoid making a cake of herself and secure a match? or shall london's bachelors find themselves subjected to lectures on alchemical theory rather than flirtation?
this author, for one, shall be watching most carefully.
