I spent all day doing sidequests instead of progressing the main story
I know you’re talking about a videogame but this is actually a really good metaphor for my life
Spoopy season is almost upon us... In the meantime, how about an awesome graphic novel with a little something for everyone!
You go away for one weekend...
This was a super fascinating read. I love Caitlin Doughty’s YouTube channel, and this book did not disappoint! I don’t read nonfiction that often, but for this, I was willing to make an exception. Funny, eye-opening, and thought-provoking. I have talked to almost everyone I know about this book.

This is a heartbreaking novel that I could not put down. Once I started reading Dime’s story, I had to see her through until the end no matter what that meant. I went through almost the entire range of emotions while reading this and still feel some of those feelings when I think back to parts of the book. BE WARNED! It is filled with triggering topics, BUT sex trafficking and prostitution are serious issues that should not be ignored. More women, or more people in general, should be aware of the circumstances that may lead individuals to this type of life. I feel that this story helped to open my eyes in that regard. At times it may be hard to read, but it is wonderfully done.
Book Review: (NO SPOILERS)
*Be aware that this opinion is coming from someone who doesn’t identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community.*
If someone were to ever ask you how to normalize LGBTQ+ representation in media, point them to this book. It does a wonderful job of making this a story about a boy grieving over the loss of a loved one. His friends and family don’t focus on the fact that this loved one was his boyfriend. Shaun David Hutchinson doesn’t allow his characters or his writing to harp on this detail. They act as if his relationships with other boys is NORMAL. That is how it is done.
The representation of survivors of suicide loss feels pretty spot on at least for this reader. The uncertainty, the guilt, it’s all definitely there, and by the end, it’s still there because it always will be. That being said there are important messages that shine through.
The loss was no one person’s fault.
Actually, it’s no one’s fault at all.
Depression is a daily battle, and the only way to overcome it is to keep fighting.
Nothing that you do after your loved one’s passing will bring him or her back.
Don’t waste what is left of your life. Live on for the one you lost.
It is okay to feel better some days.
*Be aware that I am over two years into my healing process. This may not be true for other suicide loss survivors.*
Overall, this was a wonderful story combined with the above and the suspense of will he or won’t he save the world. Would you? I think that is the point of the story. You may decide today that you wouldn’t but tomorrow have a different view of your life and those that are in it. We should always find something in the world that’s worth saving it.
Here is a small look into what I've read this year so far. There are a few bonus books from last year, too.
