A/N: This is Day 10 of the 31-Day Writing Challenge! I will be posting one fic, each based off the dayâs prompt, every day in July! These fics will be a little shorter than normal, as most prompts only lend themselves to one scene. Without further ado, enjoy!
It had been years since you had seen the gang. You had all been so close back in college, but after you transferred to another school everything slowly seemed to fall apart.
Finally, you had an opportunity to reunite. Alexander was getting married to a girl named Eliza, and you were invited along with the others.
You were very excited. Not only to see your old friends, but to see Alex get married. You used to tease him relentlessly about how he was a ladiesâ man who would never dream of settling down; apparently you were wrong.
âY/N! Ma cherie!â Cried a familiar voice. You turned, seeing your old friend Lafayette.
âFrenchie!â You cried in response, happy to see your pal again. âIt had been so long!â
âToo long,â said John Laurens with a wide smile.
âJohn!â You cried again, still beaming. You had forgotten just how much you loved these guys.
âBut whereâs-â You began, only to be cut off by your own gasp as you felt two strong arms around your back.
âY/N!â said a deep voice behind you, and you recognized it right away.
âHercules!â You said with a giggle, âput me down!â In response he only squeezed you harder. Eventually he sat you down, all of you continuing to laugh and enjoy seeing each other again.Â
âI assume Alex is already getting dressed?â You asked, earning a chorus of âyeaâs and head nods from the group. As a bridesmaid, you quickly changed with the other girls and found your spot in the procession.
âDang Herc, you clean up nice!â You teased the groomsman who you had been paired up with. It was true; you did really like the way he looked in a tux. You had always found Hercules attractive, but the years had certainly been kind to him.
âAnd you look as beautiful as ever,â he replied with a sad chuckle and a genuine smile. It confused you, but you had little time to dwell on it as the music started and the procession began.Â
The ceremony was beautiful. You wish you could have said that you didnât take your eyes off the bride and groom once, but that would have been a lie. You did sneak glances at Hercules time to time, and thankfully for you he never caught on.
You rode to the reception with the other bridesmaids, gushing about how beautiful everything was.
Finally arriving at the venue, you made your way over to Alexander and his bride.
âCongratulations!â You squealed, pulling him into a hug. âCongratulations to you too,â you said as you pulled Eliza into a hug as well. âYou are the most beautiful bride I have ever seen.â
She blushed, responding with a quiet thank you and a kind smile. You knew that she had a gentle soul, and you already loved her.
You found your way to your table, sitting with John, Laf, and Hercules. Throughout the night, the others at your table began to migrate either to other tables or the dance floor. They left you and Hercules alone, but you didnât mind. If anything, you were grateful for the time with him, joking and laughing like you used to. It somehow made you miss him more, even though he was right beside you.
âHey Y/N?â He said, suddenly sounding nervous.
âYea, Herc?â You said, sounding concerned at his sudden change of demeanor.
âItâs just that,â he said with a sigh, âyou look so beautiful tonight. You always do. The guys have told me for years that I should tell you how I feel about you, but I missed my chance when you moved away to a different college all those years ago. Iâm not missing that chance again. Y/N, I really like you. More than just thinking youâre beautiful. If youâd allow it, I would really like to take you out on a date sometime.â
You let out a breath that you hadnât realized you were holding, breaking out into a grin.Â
âOf course, Hercules,â you said with a wide smile, âI would love that. I happen to like you as well.â You ended your sentence with a giggle, making Hercules smile. He pulled you into another bear hug, holding you tight. You relaxed into him, wrapping your arms around him as well. He smelled so good, and you could have been content in his large arms forever.
âI canât believe you still feel this way after all those years,â you muttered happily.
âOf course I do,â he responded. âAfter all those years, you are still the same beautiful, kind, and intelligent woman that I fell in love with in the first place.â
