Got sort of curious about a new xenofiction about birds (Birdlands) but after reading the blurb, I’m disappointed. Animals must quest to find a new home is so DONE TO DEATH and I’m sick of it.

Seriously, of all the innovations you can do with XF, it is either A: a Warriors clone or B, lazy “Animal group must escape evil man to find a new home” plot. It was fine when Watership Down did it, but it’s seriously gotten so old at this point. So overdone and it’s tiresome. Same with all wolf stories being about revenge…

However the only aspect that does make it a bit more unique is that each bird has some form of disability, which I can see others identifying with.

Anyway…Can I have something more like LOTR and DW PLEASE?!

I guess I must do everything myself, then, because no one else will -_-

Adult Xenofiction is valid and deserves to exist.

Including mature subjects and themes is not a bad thing. Don't let the dumb puriteens and their insecurities bring you down. Ignore them. They are nothing.

Just write your fiction!

Honestly, I wish more adult xenofiction actually had adult scenes that wasn't just politics, murder and violence. Sex is a natural part of life, a natural of being an animal, and I wish more authors would say fuck it and write the fuck

The only other animal xenofiction book I've read wich handles this, is Duncton Wood, although not as explicitly as Abigail Hilton

Agreed. I include sex in my stories but they aren't explicitly written. I like to make the emotions the center point.

Still, I wish people weren't so hesitant to tackle this subject in XF. As anon said, it's a natural part of life and it deserves to be explored. I feel most people (especially younger people) don't realize that Sex isn't just erotica; it is about trust and emotions and also natural instincts to survive and bring in the next generation. Just a major part of the life of every animal on earth.

In the end, I want to explore it in an emotionally captivating way.

Sadly I’ve had people (teenagers and young adults) attack me over having this stance, calling me some of the worst things you can call someone. It’s really stupid. I doubt I’ll ever escape it and it will keep happening once the books are out. Still, it’s just dumb and I wish it wouldn’t happen.

Adult XF is valid and it deserves to exist.
