Sometimes the most frightening thought is not being hated or rejected, but simply not being chosen. To stand in a room full of people who matter to someone, and quietly know that if they had to call out one name, it would never be yours. Not because you did something wrong, not because you loved any less but because someone else will always come first. Someone brighter, closer, easier to keep. And you would stand there with all the love you carried for them, realizing it had nowhere to land. That kind of silence hurts in a way that is hard to explain—the silence where your name is never spoken, where you are always almost important, almost needed, almost someone’s first choice, but never quite enough to be the one they reach for.
