Jin smiled, couldnât seem to keep the smile off her face, the more she listened to him. The more she basked in his presence. With newly opened eyes and newly recovered memories, she still saw him in the same light. Blinding and burning and there was no doubt in her mind of her feelings for him.
âI think I know why I loved you then.â She remembered the first time she walked down the beach so many lifetimes past to watch the sea kiss her shadow and her feet, watched in amazement as the water came back over and over again to her -running back like a lover, always meant to return- and it was the first time she felt love. Long before she even knew what love was. âYou felt like the sea and the sky. You look like the sun. You held me down when no one would. In times when even I couldnât.â
Memories of how she tried so hard for him -memories of how she tried to be better, kinder, good- lapped at the surface, pain moving along with it like broken glass, but she kept her smile to hide the pain. She didnât want him to see her pain knowing it would hurt him more.
âAnd right now, you still feel the same to me. And remembering you feels like waking up from a two thousand days of sleep. Itâs painful but remembering you is worth it. Having you is worth all the pain, god knows what pain I caused you.â
Her voice was low, apologetic, as she remembered some of the pain she caused him. The guilt he felt for all the lives lost, no matter how sullied they may be, still weighed on his conscience every single time she killed. And itâs still a miracle and a mystery to her now as it was back then why he still chooses to welcome her in with open arms.
âIâll always send my love to my sun. After all, youâre the only good in this life I donât seem to scare off.â
And the pain was almost unbearable as she remembered more, fragments of memories crashing in an excruciating wave, and she could feel the red rise up but held it in with a smile and a subtle grip on her own beverage. Hold on to something that wonât break Jin. Not his hand, not his heart. Not yet.
With a shaky exhale, she released her hold on her coffee and an even shakier voice she spoke to him with all the strength she could muster, suddenly drained by the assault her own code had done to her. âFunny how two stills of a life can bring back so many memories. Funny how even after years, nothing changed. Not my heart, not yours.â Jin took the pictures from the table, willing her hands not to tremble at the movement as the aftershock of the pain hummed in her still, and looked at the catalyst of all the memories that had been unlocked.
As soon as her eyes no longer felt like they were tinted like fire, she looked back at him. âCan we leave? I feel tired.â
It was difficult for Yunho to hear Jin sit there and talk, spilling all the secrets of her heart in a way that they had both struggled with in the past. It was easy, perhaps, to talk about things in the past tense, and that was how Jin began, and Yunho braced himself for it to stay in the past despite the confession of his own blurring the lines between then and now. He tried to summon steel inside of him, ready for Jin to leave him there, in the past, locked up with memories. He watched the wash of emotions play across her face, the fine tremors in her hands speaking of her control, her admirable strenght that he had always loved so much. He felt scraped clean, empty with all he had offered her, and he knew he would do it over and over if she asked. Yunho didnât have the strength to refuse. Right now you feel the same to me. Tears spiked in his eyes and he blinked them away as he looked down at the table, smiling through it, something in his chest beginning to fill back up, the love for her he had never let go of sparking from a small half-dead thing into a beautiful blossoming flame full of the heat of hope. It might not last, he tried to tell himself. It might be an echo of a long dead thing. A confusion in Jinâs code. But he knew then and there that he would always love her. That no-one else would compare in his heart. That he had been waiting for her to return and he always would, no matter the circumstances of their parting. Jin could die and heâd wait out his years for a reunion. âIt has been 2000 days of sleep, give or take a few.â Years heâd waited. Decades he would wait for her. âCome home with me, then. Please. No pressure, I just. It would make me so happy to see you home again.â He set his coffee down and rubbed at his face, forcing the happiness to the front and pushing down everything else that swarmed through him. This was all that mattered to him in that moment. Jin, her heart unchanged, still in harmony with his own. He held out a hand for her to take. âRest with me. Iâll look after you.â
degeneratexeliteâ:
She patiently waited for his answer, a simple yes or no delayed by his nerves as he pulled away from her in the most tender of ways and she had to admire -all over again- how he never seemed to have changed at all. Not in how he moved or what he did when he tried to calm his nerves. When he was a bit too overcome with emotions.
She may only remember a few of their memories, but in those flashes of her past, she could see his emotions. And she could see the sincerity in his eyes. The same sincerity reflected the moment he gave her the answer.
Jin watched as he took to sipping his coffee before speaking, stumbling over his words, to assure her heâs never denying her his company. And for that she was thankful. Happy. Relieved to know she had another chance to be around and with the man who felt very much like the sun no matter how dark her life got.
âYouâre too kind, especially to me. What did I do to deserve you my love?â And her question was quiet, as she was half uncertain she wanted him to hear, but if he did she wanted to know. She wanted to be reminded before she remembered exactly what she did to deserve his love. âI donât remember doing anything good in my life to deserve you.â
Jin looked calmer, as if whatever storm of pain that rolled through her had washed out for now. Her voice was soft, at the edge of his hearing, and even though the coffee shop was half empty if he had not had all his attention focused on her so intently Yunho would have missed the question. âI could ask you the same,â he replied, rubbing at his eyebrow with his free hand, coffee still cradled to his chest. âWhat do any of us do to deserve it?â Now that Jin was in front of him he couldnât stop looking at her, wanting to soak everything up and refresh the memories of her in his head. The idea of her he had been carrying around in his heart seemed so pale, so washed out compared to having Jin sat across from him, alive and vibrant and somehow still ready to accept Yunhoâs affections. âYou were good to me when no-one else was. That sounds like I love you because you pity me but thatâs not, that isnât it. You cared for me. You wanted me to be a better person, and I tried for you. I really did. I loved you because you made me happy in a way I had not been in a long time. You didnât care that I wasnât, I couldnât be someone from your world. And I love that you never let all of that take away the joy in you either.â Jinâs... employment was always something Yunho had been aware of, something he had struggled to reconcile. It had horrified him at times, made him question himself, but never was it enough to drive him away. Even then, forcing himself to think about it, he couldnât find it in himself to be frightened. âAll the... killing. Bloodshed. I know itâs part of you and always will be. But itâs not everything you are. You have so much love to give, Jin. Iâm lucky you send some of it my way.â
degeneratexeliteâ:
âI remember. I remember you. In fragments and flashes and solid moments that are too overwhelming. Youâre the key to the memories heâs hidden.â Her creator -her father- was someone she would have to accept she will never know. But she was thankful for knowing what it took to unlock the memories he left in her, no matter how painful remembering might be. It was worth the memories of the man who burned beautifully like the sun. âI can wait for them to come again. The memories come in like tidal waves, and itâs why they hurt. I can take it, if and when they decide to return. I can take the pain.â
Jin sighed, placing a hand over his own. She was frost compared to him and it always confounded her as to how, of all the people in the world, he kept his love for her. When she was nothing more than just a pawn. Someone so easy to forget. âBut my love, you already know I donât need luxury. Coffee is good, coffee will do. You and coffee and your love would be enough.â
She leaned into his touch, always warm and inviting, and closed her eyes.Theyâve slowly returned to the colour they should be -tinted like a stormy sky- but she canât keep on subjecting him to the torture of looking at what she really is, no matter how much she knows he loved her. The colour of her eyes -blood red, pomegranate seeds, soft sunset depending on the light- had always been a grim reminder of what she was, what she still is, and itâs something she wasnât too fond of reminding him.
âBut can I see you more?â
Her lips formed a shy smile as she looked at him, as if unsure what to ask. She wanted to be around Yunho, to be back in his life once more. As selfish as that sounded. She wanted to get back everything she lost, everything that was ripped away from him.
âCan I just be in your life more?â
As if he suddenly remembered they were in public, conscious of causing a scene, Yunho slid his hands from Jinâs face, letting the backs of his fingers trail under her chin catching the last of her tears before they fell onto the photos. He sipped at his coffee, not meaning to keep Jin hanging with a reply because heâs not a cruel man, but because the desperate way in which he would have said yes might have frightened her with its intensity and he needed to be calm one. He needed to show her that he wasnât the crumbling wreck that she had to care for in the past. âJin, you donât- of course. You think I would say no? After all of this?â The coffee was sweet against his tongue and he thought of her kisses at sunrise, the way he could see summer storms in her eyes, the way her cool hand had soothed the fevers in him. It made him softer and serious, regarding her with a mix of regret and hope clouding his eyes. âI waited for you. All this time. There was - There hasnât been anyone else. Itâs you, for me. I can wait for it to come back, too.â
degeneratexeliteâ:
Her eyes were unfocused when she opened them once more and she was sure they were red. She was built to withstand pain immeasurable but it did not mean she couldnât feel it. She can feel the pain still surging in waves and it knocked the wind out of her and her only fighting chance was to focus on something. A trick from her creator she still could not see.
Mind over matter. Thatâs what humans always said, thatâs what he said, when he taught her about pain. If you ignore it, it wonât go away. But instead of the screaming pain, you will be left with a humming you can make peace with.
And so she focused. With eyes still bright red, like the rubies she had received as gift thousands of days past, from a man long dead and gone, she focused.
Focused on the memory that had returned; of sunsets and sunrises with Yunhoâs laughter and his sun kissed skin. Focused on the feel of the sheets that hid bare bodies from the world outside like a wall keeping secrets in.
Focus on the man in front of her.
The man whose life was touched by a being no one came to think would be capable of love. The man whose face was painted with worry and regret and pain in shades comparable only to the colours of The Ninth Wave, the man she saw walk through hell and come out singing.
âIf thereâs anyone selfish here,â Jinâs voice cracked, strained from the force of keeping herself silent in the pain. âit would be me. Because even after you have healed, I still haunt you.â
She could still remember the feel of his hands on her when they stayed in Jeju. And though his life itself was touched by time, it could not change his tenderness. If she only judged with the intensity of his worry and the way he wiped her tears, sheâd say he never aged a day.
âThis isnât the price of remembering, my love. Heâs not that cruel, not to me.â And the term of endearment slipped out her tongue like it was never forgotten, hidden where the light could not pass. âCanât you see? This is the price of all the pain Iâve caused you. A price Iâm willing to pay.â
âJin.â Contained in that one word were a lifetime of heartbreaks and joy, pain and grief and the most happiness Yunho had ever know in his life. She was all these things to him, even after the years that had passed between them in her absence. Even then, something in her remembered him and that stoked the small flame of hope Yunho had carried in his chest, a foolish and small thing that could not keep him warm on lonely nights but one which he stubbornly kept alive anyway. His big hands lingered at Jinâs face, framing her as he stared at her sunset red eyes. She was everything he shouldnât want but he always was stubborn, and heâd gotten better, hadnât he? Heâd changed, and if it hadnât been for her then why had he even tried to stay alive? He exhaled slowly, and closed his eyes against her image for a long moment to compose himself. âJin, you hurt me, and I suffered. Thatâs true. But I would never want that for you. I love you, there, there has to be another way. Letâs find another way, or... wait, and see what happens.â A crooked smile tilted his mouth. âYou might be willing to pay but I donât think either of us can afford the cost of that. I have a lot of money but Iâve got to keep you in the luxury youâve become accustomed to, havenât I? Those sapphires and endless cups of coffee wonât buy themselves.â

His honesty came at her like a tsunami and it drowned her. The truth was a double edged sword, she was always told. And right now, it couldnât be any truer. And it pulled at a memory in her, asleep for years but painfully waking up.
Jin closed her eyes and kept the pain in, simmering underneath the surface but never allowed to paint her face. She was sure that her hands had dropped temperature; she was well aware of how cold she was but the pain was sending ice through her. It wouldnât have hurt much if she were human, but being made of codes made the pain all too real. Inescapable.
Amidst the pain, flashes of sunsets and smiles and laughter went through like a slideshow. And she still canât believe that she was given a chance to live an emotion she never thought she deserved.
Silence was all she could muster up, the only thing she could do to not let him see her in pain. Yunho doesnât deserve to see her pain, not after all heâs been through. She understood the picture, that much she can attest to, the emotions of it and the love, oh the love she felt for him.
As soon as the pain was bearable, she released his fingers from her grasp, afraid sheâd hurt him without knowing. Again.
âI saw Jeju.â It was all she could explain before the pain doubled over once more as it fed more locked memories to her. The exchange was brutal but to her, it was worth it. She could feel the tears flowing from her face, but she couldnât even make herself move to wipe it off. She had failed to hide just how much pain it was for the codes to be unlocked, but amidst the pain she that paralysed her, she managed to choke out two words before she could no longer look at him. âI remember.â
Slowly, ice crept into Yunhoâs skin as he watched Jinâs impassive face stare down at the photo. At first he thought it was coming from himself somehow, as if Jinâs silence was icy denial of what occurred between them seeping into his veins. Then he realised it was literally coming from Jin, pouring from her skin in waves into his own and he squeezed tighter, awash with concern, lead settling in his stomach. This was what he feared, expressing his own pain and somehow causing Jin some of her own. She began to cry and panic spiked like a knife in his chest as he leaned into her space, trying to get her to look at him. In all their time together, all the things that transpired between them, all the ways they had made each other hurt, he couldnât quite recall anything like this and it frightened anything. Yunho had been so sure of himself only moments before and now he wondered if he would survive it if this was the result of remembering. âJin-ah, youâre scaring me. Stop, just... let it go. Itâs hurting you. Please. Stop. Forget.â Tenderly he let go of her hands so he could wipe her tears with the cuff of his sweater, so close to her face that he could see every fine tremor of emotion, every ounce of pain it cost her to stay so still. His heart sank, and the panic settled into the duller knife of grief. His voice was small and sad when he spoke. âThis canât be the cost of remembering me. I donât want to hurt you for my own selfish needs.â
degeneratexeliteâ:
His reaction to the second part of her offer, of her disappearing altogether, in quiet panic shocked her. She did not expect him to react as he did, and it tugged at her in ways she couldnât quite explain. And to be quite honest, she doesnât even want to leave him anyways.
âNo leaving then.â Jin smiled as she took his hand, holding onto it with both hers. âNo leaving, no pity. Just the truth.â
Words bubbled up to her throat and she had to stop himself from saying them, afraid sheâd say something sheâd regret later on.
It was not everyday she felt those emotions -regret or fear itself- but they always clawed at her whenever Yunho was concerned. For things she couldnât even understand, much less decipher.
âAnd why would I pity you?â Her question was asked with her eyes more focused on his hand, her own trying to avoid the weight of his gaze. And without waiting for his answer, she picked up the photograph of them and looked at him once more. âI just want to know. Starting with the story of this photo.â
His fingers curled tight around Jinâs cool hand and he didnât know whether to watch their twined fingers or her face, her beautiful grey eyes that danced across the photo before her. âWe went to Jeju. I was having a hard time in my life. We took a holiday together because - well, because we were special to each other.â All the convincing himself heâd done, all the bitter imaginings that had kept him awake at night, kept him seeking solace in places that would only do him harm, he hadnât really believed that he had meant nothing to her. âWe were in love,â he continued simply, his hand twitching in the grip of hers. âYou didnât try and stop what I was doing but you tried to make it less harmful. We drank, I drank, we slept together, we went down to the water together when the sun was low and people had mostly disappeared and took pictures, felt the wind on our faces.â Jeju remained a treasured memory for Yunho. Something that he took out and looked at from time to time when it had begun to hurt less, hoarded like treasure deep in his chest. Heâd been a mess by then, of course, drinking far too much, not looking after himself, but he remembered feeling happy then. âWe were happy. Thatâs the story of that photo. You giving me peace, because you loved me.â

degeneratexeliteâ:
Pain was something she was built to handle, she wanted to argue. Being in pain was what she could handle best, even at its worst. But the pain in his eyes made her hold back her retort.
The truth might hurt her physically, but it looks like itâd kill him inside. And that was a state she didnât want him in, no matter how little she knew of him.
âMy pain is temporary.â Her eyes followed his every movement as she talked, how uncomfortable it got for him to just think up the idea of her past. She must really have hurt him judging from his action. âBut yours seem to be deep.â
Jin was never taught to second guess her actions, her words, but looking at him made her want to stop altogether, maybe the past for him was better left where it is, in memories tucked far away.
And in a rare occurrence for her, she countered her own words. Without reason other than to save him from his own pain if she could.
âIf you donât want to though, itâs fine. You can forget and I wonât remember, and we can be friends.â Cradling the coffee with both hands, she smiled in resignation. She would give him is choices, his life back. âOr if itâs more ideal, if it was a mistake to come back, I can disappear once more. Never to bother you again.â
He contemplated her offer, imagining them being friends, meeting like this casually once a month when Jin was in town. She wouldnât stay friends with someone like Yunho for long. He wondered if that wouldnât be worse somehow, to constantly wonder over increasingly awkward interactions what might have been if heâd only offered more of himself up. His father would say that was typical of Yunhoâs whole life, never quite pushing himself, never fully committing. Yunho had let people down in his life, a fact he was aware of but not proud of, and yet somehow despite his failings Jin had never given up on him in return. Yes, she had left him, but he had come to understand that it was for circumstances beyond her control, although knowing that didnât make the pain of her choices burn any less brighter for it. With a shock that made him tilt forward at the table towards Jin - perfectly poised, perfect Jin - Yunho realised that heâd done his grieving already. His heart had broken and he had survived, and he could do it again if thatâs how they were destined to end. He slid a hand across the table, palm up in the space between them, and his voice was sweet and low and full of nothing but earnestness as he looked up into her face. âDonât leave - please, donât go. I donât want you to go. Iâll tell you everything just - donât feel sorry for me. Whatever you do, promise me youâll never pity me.â

degeneratexeliteâ:
Confirmation was all she needed from him, cold affirmation of the fact that he was the man in the picture.
Although the photo itself did not trigger memories to be unlocked, she had seen enough of Yunho to deduce that it was him. And that was all that mattered.
âThese are much to intimate for us to be friends.â She really could not hold her tongue any longer as soon as the truth, no matter how vague, tumbled out of him. Grey eyes ran through his features as if memorising every line and colour of his face. âWhy canât I have the truth you have?â
Her eyes fell on the photograph once again, serene and beautiful in its simplicity. It looked like a whole different life, something she canât possibly have lived, but it felt like it was hers to own as well. The absence of memories she should not even be able to forget in the first place left her hollow, and she just simply wanted to know.
âI donât remember.â Admitting defeat was never her strong point, and she closed her eyes to avoid his stare. With eyes still closed she went on, silently wishing he would let himself be known. âI know youâre Apollo because it canât be anyone else. I know youâre the man in the picture because I observed. But I donât remember.â
With a heavy sigh she opened her eyes, already accepting the outcome. Yunho felt like someone you could trust your secrets to, and if he wanted he could hold on to the pieces of her until his death. And Jin knew that her voice would break before she even spoke, knew she was far too emotional for something she doesnât even understand, but still. âI just want to know.â
With a heavy sigh Yunho rested his palm over the pictures and slid them over to his side of the table where he flipped them over. Out of sight, out of mind. He sipped at his coffee and leant back, rubbing at his temple with his free hand and feeling the residual coolness from the iced glass seep into his skin. Jinâs hands always felt cool against him, like a soothing press to break a fever. âThe truth hurts you, remember?â The truth hurt Yunho more, if he was honest. He was covering to spare her feelings but mostly himself, in a rare act of self-preservation. Ice rattled against the glass. Condensation trickled down onto the photographs below. âIf I tell you, it... You might feel burdened by it. I know no-one can tell you what to do, believe me I know...â He paused, a breath that might have been laughter, and studied her as his heartbeat quickened. âYou might feel as if you owe me something. And I couldnât stand that.â
degeneratexeliteâ:
Her eyes constantly moved from the photo to the door every single time it chimed to announce a customer, quietly hoping it would be him with each passing moment. And each time, she was met with disappointment as another stranger entered the door and not the sunshine of a man she agreed to meet.
Soon enough though, the man himself walked through the door and grey eyes surveyed each move; the subtle weight he put on one leg, a little -almost unnoticeable- limp he had. Even the way he masked himself to the world was extremely familiar to her. He was familiar as can be, but unknown at the same time. And it hurt.
Shuffling the photos as he walked closer, smiling as he sat in front of her. He looked like the man in the picture, well his silhouette was, she noted, and she pushed the pictures towards him after he handed the coffee to her.
âGood to see you too, Yunho-ssi.â Her reply felt too clipped, even with the smile on her lips. â Well, I know what ai want but can you show me how well you know me?â
In the gloomy cool of the coffee shop Jin was colder still, wrapped in black and white, all clean simple lines, perfectly poised and contained. Even when she smiled it didnât melt the cool assessing gaze as she looked him over. Knowing. Somehow, knowing him without even realising that she could look right into the core of him. The photos stayed in the middle of the table and Yunho bent forward to look at them, immediately recognising himself and the scene captured in the polaroid. It was from a long time ago, so far back that Yunho was almost reluctant to reach for the memory through the haze of everything that had passed since then. A hotel room, his body covering hers so completely. The sea outside, itâs soft susurration lulling them to sleep at night. The heat, the glorious summer heat melting their bones together. He had been happy, then. In love. âYou still have these?â It was all he managed for the moment, composing himself to look into her eyes as he tried to decipher what she knew, what she knew he felt. A game he was already tired of playing but kept up to protect her. âYou know itâs me. I know that you know that, deep down.â His tone was soft, his eyes unwavering from her face as he sipped at his sweet coffee. âJeju. A long time ago. Before I got- lost.â
Sick, didnât seem to cover it. Worse, might have been more appropriate for his state then. But Jin had had him then, had kept him safe in the ways she knew how. Safe from himself most of all. His stomach ached as he turned hope into despair over and over, a constantly flipping coin neither heads nor tails. âDo you remember?â
from here
His step was lighter these days, not the slow drag of his leg at itâs worst, or the drunken weave that was the way he navigated years previously. Still a limp though, heâd never be rid of that, but far less noticeable than when Jin was last in his life, certainly. Yunho wondered what sheâd make of him as he approached. Theyâd last met in... difficult circumstances, to say the least. She hadnât seen him move much around his apartment. Would she remember what ailed him? Would this new Jin disapprove of such physical weakness. Sheâd never been anything but caring and loving before but... Something in his mind shied away from straying too far down that path. The idea that Jin was lines and lines of code, something to be overwritten, was painful and strange to Yunho, a little seed of doubt about her that even in his softest moments still flourished. Code. She could change at any moment, on anyoneâs whim. She had changed, had been overwritten. Whatâs to stop it happening again and again? The coffee shop was the same as ever though, a place he had liked well and yet could never bring himself to step foot in after Jin had disappeared. And Jin, there, watching the door, beautiful but indistinct as he moved from the sunshine into the cool shade of the interior. Yunho smiled at her, because he couldnât not do it, and fidgeted as he ordered two iced coffees to bring the to the table. He concentrated so hard on walking normally and not spilling the drinks that he missed any reaction Jin might have shown and he silently chastised himself for that, needing as many clues as he could get to parse her reaction to him these days. âJin. Itâs good to see you.â A vast understatement, but true nonetheless. Yunho seated himself opposite her and slid one coffee across to her. âI donât know if you take sugar or cream these days but Iâll get them for you if you want.â

fiore-jinâ:
âSo I did.â It was a quiet sentence that even she could barely hear. So this was, without a doubt or question, the man who owned the heart that -against all odds- beat and loved. He was the miracle worker she had dreamed of for longer than she could remember.
âI donât know what you did to think it untrue butâŚâ She paused to gather her own wits as she saw the stone cold resolve behind his eyes. He was calm and collected and much like quiet fury that it made her understand just why she fell in the first place. The story may all be backed out but she understood it clearly just why he owned her heart. And when Jin spoke, it was to calm the storm he had brewed inside without even realizing.
âYou know, Iâve been looking for home.â Her voice was barely above a whisper but she would bet her life that Yunho heard and she knew sheâd win. âIâve been nowhere near home as Iâve been now.â
And clear grey eyes watched as he moved, purposely avoiding her. It hurt -a pain known to her now in a short span of time she spent with Yunho- and now she could pinpoint the name of the pain. It was her heart breaking every single time he looked at her, thinking her feelings were all calculated, all a trick of her game. Something she also saw behind his own eyes, only a little bit different; a thinly concealed heartbreak masked by a coldness that her countless winters could never sum up to.
âYunho, did I really seem like such a liar to you back then?â And Jinâs question broke her as much as it did the man as soon as it left her mouth, the words feeling like a double edged sword wounding both as it went past. âI know, without a doubt, that you had my heart.â You still do, she wanted to add before her mind deemed it inappropriate. âWas I really that cruel to you?â
âJesus, Jin, no-â There was fire in his eyes when he turned then, all the heat that he kept deep down inside, all the flames that had been doused by the years and everything that had passed between them suddenly stoked into life by her words, by those grey eyes that haunted him. Hands slammed flat on the counter that divided them, Yunhoâs fingers splayed wide, his head hanging low between his tense shoulders so he could look close into her face. When he spoke his voice was low and smoky around the edges with everything he tried to keep buried inside. âYou hurt me, and I hurt you. But I never once thought you lied to me about that. About where you went, when you were coming back, who you were with, but- never that. Never what mattered to me.â He had worked so hard to let go of everything he had felt back then. First, by drinking away his loneliness, drowning at the bottom of vodka bottles to forget how abandoned and helpless he had felt, and not just because of Jin. Then later, when he had nothing left to lose, heâd sought proper help, and tried to draw a line in the sand that he would not cross again. Jin. Always good at breaking through his defenses, right from the start. âBut thatâs gone now. You said so yourself.â Yunho wanted to reach out and touch her, his hands twitching with the impulse. He thought again of a cool glass, beads of sweat dripping down the side, the astringent tang of liqour on his tongue. âWe canât go back to that. You canât love me because I told you thatâs how you felt. Thatâs empy. Thatâs lying.â
