Beginnings

It took him a moment to realize the irony of what he’d said and fretted slightly when he finally did. “O-oh I didn’t mean to be disrespectful or anythin’ like that- I.. I swear I was just confirmin’ I hadn’t seen any sorta case..” At least he was a good sport about it though.

“Don’t worry, I know what you meant- I was just teasing you,” he replied, rocking back on his heels, getting ready to walk around in search of his beloved belonging. He felt a tiny bit of amusement spark at the sight of the fretting, but being mean to someone who was willingly going to help him look for his case wasn’t smart, so he decided to keep further comments to himself.

Maybe if he stopped reacting to this new nickname he was given Klaus would drop it sooner or later. Though his companion did make a good note on how having more than one pokemon would have helped. Then again pokemon were still pretty scarce in their home region. “Probably couldn’t afford more than one for each of us I’m guessing. He has to know there would be a chance we could run off with these pokemon, right? And battling shouldn’t be that hard. Spent plenty of my childhood watching those guys stand in a circle and fight all day.” There was a small shrug, stuffing his hands into his pockets on his jacket, listening to Klaus go on. The guy just answered his own question about giving them more than one pokemon each it seemed. If he would even pick up on that. He couldn’t help but question his ‘rival’s’ intelligence somewhat. Not that he thought he was stupid per say just… questionable.

His own pokemon trotted along close ho her trainer only to occasionally get distracted by different things they passed, causing Yahui to have to glance over to her now and then to make sure she was still at his side. Seems she was far more interested in the new region than her trainer.

“Well, you certainly have a point there, I guess. Krane didn’t seem like the shady sort. Maybe sheltered, with his big fancy white building and expensive tech, but not shady.” Even as he said that, the circumstances on their departure were not entirely clear to him. His parents had said very little about how they were able to manage the whole deal.

“No matter how you look at it, we benefit just as much in the long run. He said fill the pokedex, but he said nothing about giving him the Pokemon we find and catch. As long as we’re on this journey, we keep any money we get- granted we don’t lose battles- and our Pokemon get stronger. No matter what trouble our parents get into, we could feasibly help them out.”

He waved a dismissive hand into the air after his pondering, “But enough about that stuff. It’s kind of distressing to think about, no? What’s say we find this professor and then get a room in the Pokemon Center later? I know that the next town isn’t even that far, so unless this old man keeps us for a couple hours, we could get there before nightfall. After that, find us some cheap food place and indulge ourselves.”

His lips turned downward into a frown. Maybe he should just go back to keeping his mouth shut while his rival made a fool of himself. Maybe if he ignored him for the most part he wouldn’t keep saying weird things. “Yahui…. Not Yahoo.” If Klaus wanted to ask around for where they needed to go then he’d let him. if he could avoid talking to strangers then he’d let the other do whatever he wanted. Not that he was against it, it just unsettled him slightly. Though every other thought left him when his rival brought up rugged men. That was… Oddly specific… and somewhat unsettling sounding. Yeah best not to question that and just leave the guy to talk to himself.

“Right, right, Yahui. Not Yahoo. Got it. Though- Yahoo ain’t that bad of a nickname if I do say so myself.”

Klaus intended to make the most of this journey and adventure. Nothing would stop him. He was in a new region, which meant seeing more beautifully rugged men than there was in Orre. Honestly, after living there for a couple years, you tended to recognize most, if not every, person who stayed there as well. 

“If Krane thinks two teens who have been confined to one region for most of their lives was his best bet, then shouldn’t he have, I don’t know, given us more than one Pokemon to start out with? And maybe a run down of how battling works in that fancy tech lab of his?”

He paused as he thoughtlessly talked, kicking rocks in his path. “Also, if it were me, I probably would have had an actual assistant go with the kids I picked out, because like- No offense, but were not the most trustworthy people. What would stop us from just taking anything related to his research? I don’t see any benefit from it now, but what if down the road we do?”

“Now you’re just putting words into my mouth.”

“Better than putting a sock into it,” he snapped his fingers into ‘finger guns’, winking at Yahui. With the awful joke made, he twirled around on his feet and continued to follow his adventurous little starter, idly wondering where he was being lead to. Considering the danger in the wild grass, he wasn’t sure if he was comfortable with Waldo wandering ahead like he was.

“Come on, Yahoo, we gotta get going. Since you wanted to so badly, right?” He placed his arms behind his head, all too casual for someone who had crouched down to investigate a leaf not even five minutes prior to him being a little shit. He even added a whistle as he wandered off, as if to seal the deal better. He could practically hear his mother all the way in Orre, ranting about how this wasn’t how you made friends.

“What a great description. ‘Not that old and had glasses’. I don’t think it’d get us any tourist points if we stopped every person who fit that criteria, so I guess I’ll just ask the first person we see where we’re supposed to be going. Think we’ll see any rugged men?” He asked.

Not that he expected to get an answer. Yahui seemed like the closed-off kind of guy. Which wasn’t too bad, considering he himself liked a bit of distance, too. It didn’t seem like they were getting off to a particularly good start, though. He’d just have to try harder, but later.
