Genuine question: i often see posts on tumblr talking very positively about Pasolini, but i never see mentioned the fact that he was known to be a pedophile. I might have read untruthful articles about the subject and i’m not trying to "cancel" him, i’m just confused as to why some people seem to gloss over that? Again, i'm not italian so i might be wrong

it's one of those things where his being a pedophile (and, y'know, a massive misogynist), is obscured by his art and to a much, much greater extent by his martyrdom.

and ironically, i don't think his leftist politics and the controversial nature of his work make it any easier to have actual honest conversations about everything he was and did and believed in. the fact that back then pedophilia was not as precisely codified as it is nowadays certainly doesn't.

but i also don't know if it's fair to expect every discussion about his movies to be accompanied by a disclaimer or something like that.

i guess my point here is that we've clearly not figured out a way to talk about shitty people who made good art yet, which doesn't really make for a satisfying answer, does it?
