He knows you’ll reincarnate, but he can’t force your soul back when he wants and he can’t know for sure how long the wait is till you do return.

Habit is worse off for it though. He gets slightly more manic (somehow) and even crueler than he was before. And even if he doesn’t want to admit it, he’d gotten comfortable having you around.

He’ll catch himself waiting for you to come hug him at random times, and when he realizes you won’t, he gets irritated. At your body for failing you and at himself for growing that attached.

If you die from old age, that means you’d spent your life by his side, and by then he’d have figured it out. He already has a blueprint for your bond to continue, and he just has to wait.

When you hit like 70 and he’s still looking 25, everyone thinks you have a controversially young boy-toy husband. He’ll rub it in peoples faces if they ask him out too- he finds it hilarious.

Bonbon joins an old lady book club and when he comes to pick her up, all her friends giggle about it. Some of them are confused, worried even, but bonbon says he’s older than he seems and lets him carry her out to the car.

Not answering texts— hell, they didn't even reach 𝗵𝗲𝗿; 𝗵𝗲𝗿 socials completely dead, like 𝘀𝗵𝗲 banished from the face of earth. He couldn't even go to 𝗵𝗲𝗿 house because he didn't know where 𝘀𝗵𝗲 lived, didn't know where 𝘀𝗵𝗲 worked, didn't know if 𝘀𝗵𝗲 had family here or not, if 𝘀𝗵𝗲 talked to them, anything!

It was the first time in his life that he regreted not being nosy, those were basic things to know about friends for fucks sake!

But the weirdest thing was when he decided to mention it to Jeff and Vinny after two days of complete radio silence.

Worried out of his mind, he went up to them for some advice, or even a little comfort, when someone tells you that everything will be alright even when you know it won't; and yes, they were also concerned, for a little. After some minutes of them reassuring him, they just... forgot? More interesed in talking about the latest incident in town, a 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 that got completely run over by a truck and left completely unrecognizable.

𝗦𝗵𝗲 wasn't mentioned again during the whole hang out; and they didn't reach out either during the week, back to their classic dynamic as if Evan wasn't constantly worried out of his fucking mind, more paranoid than ever.

They just seemed to not notice anything, completely unbothered. And yes, Evan knows that 𝘀𝗵𝗲 was more of his friend than a group friend; interacting with them only during the occasional double hang out, when they just appeared during a hang out of him and 𝗵𝗲𝗿, or when he felt like inviting them too. But shouldn't they be a little more worried? Not even because of friendship duties, just because of basic civil duties.

When he thought of that on the fifth day of no news, Evan had a sudden realization: for someone who appeared to be worried sick, he actually had never known that much about his high school 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱.

𝗦𝗵𝗲 was a little geeky, that's the reason they even interacted at all. Couldn't be bothered to do 𝗵𝗲𝗿 make up, but still grumbling about 𝘀𝗵𝗲 wished 𝘀𝗵𝗲 knew how to do it. Not a bullying victim, but occasionally made fun of because of 𝗵𝗲𝗿 tastes.

Not that she ever let it slide, even while 𝘀𝗵𝗲 was terrified of confrontations (told to him by 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳), 𝘀𝗵𝗲 still glared hatefully at whoever made a backhanded comment, cussing at them under 𝗵𝗲𝗿 breath. Petty until 𝗵𝗲𝗿 last breath no matter what, particulary distrusting of men, and always around one girl atleast if 𝘀𝗵𝗲 could help it.

He remembers how prideful he felt whenever 𝘀𝗵𝗲 would make a comment about how he was "an exception" to 𝗵𝗲𝗿 distate for teenage boys. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 liked to ramble, but could be just as silent, dissociating easily.

But that was it.

He knew the basics of 𝗵𝗲𝗿 personality, enough to have a good enough time while hanging out or to be capable of doing a duo homework comfortably.

𝗦𝗵𝗲 never talked about her family, nor 𝗵𝗲𝗿 home, where 𝘀𝗵𝗲 came from, if 𝘀𝗵𝗲 had other friends, what 𝘀𝗵𝗲 did outside of school, if 𝘀𝗵𝗲 even did anything outside of school. When school was over, 𝘀𝗵𝗲 would quickly pack 𝗵𝗲𝗿 things, always excited to get out of it, and rush to the exit. Nobody would pick 𝗵𝗲𝗿 up or accompany 𝗵𝗲𝗿. When 𝘀𝗵𝗲 rounded the corner, 𝘀𝗵𝗲 was already just a memory.

It wasn't his fault, that much was obvious to anyone. He just never thought much of it as a teenager, they weren't that close after all, he just found 𝗵𝗲𝗿 pleasing to be around and pretty, not much more. But in the present, the guilt was eating him alive.

Up to what he had interpreted when they reconected, he was 𝗵𝗲𝗿 only friend currently. Not that 𝘀𝗵𝗲 ever said it, but after 𝗵𝗲𝗿 excitement to hang out one week after the another, he kinda assumed it.

And he hadn't even tried to pry for more? Never even thought about it? Just hang out some hours, have fun, and that was it? 𝗦𝗵𝗲 was a nobody after taking a step out of the door? The 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 he had declared as the only good thing that happened to him in the past weeks, and he didn't even know if 𝘀𝗵𝗲 had a fucking family? Where 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥?

And now he probably would never know. Not even going to get invited to the possible funeral.

After a whole week of sleepless nights, worrying until his hands trembled and, and staring intently at his phone trying to will 𝗵𝗲𝗿 contact to ding, Jeff and Vinny were worried sick.

Not because of 𝗵𝗲𝗿, but for him. They actually seemed to have completely forgotten about 𝗵𝗲𝗿, asking him if something happened and that he could always talk to them. That always got him even more mad, and he always cut them off agressively. He decided against reminding them about 𝗵𝗲𝗿, angry beyond reasoning.

Him and the boys were walking around the park again, but he continued to get completely lost in his thoughts, the bags under his eyes making him look like a complete zombie and the victim of lots of jokes from his friends.

Evan was staring down at his hands, lost in thought, when suddenly a disturbingly familiar 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 called out to him. His head snapped up, ignoring Vinny's and Jeff's teasing as he quickly looked around.

There, on the farther treeline of the park, was 𝗵𝗲𝗿, waving happily at them without one scratch.

He ran, rushing as if he was a sunflower finding the perfect angle of the 𝘀𝘂𝗻 on a gray day charged with sadness.

While running, Evan briefly wondered why Vinny and Jeff were so calm; as if 𝘀𝗵𝗲 had died for a week only for him and everyone else just didn't notice.

❀ You and your friends were the symbols of good, so how could you end up with a being like Habit?

❀ Habit didn’t outright get in the way of you and your friends, but damn he did not help.

❀ You were sweet, compassionate, soft spoken, and very timid, and something about that attracted Habit to you.

❀ Habit was just as malicious as he’s always been, but being with you, he learned to tone it down every once in a while.

❀ He learned very early on to most definitely NOT mess with your animals, or you could end up being just as bad as he was, which while admittedly intriguing to him, he did not want to clean up the aftermath of that.

❀ He calls you teasing nicknames all the time, just to see you blush and squirm. He finds your timid nature adorable, and loves to exploit it all the time.

❀ On the topic of teasing you, he loves to pinch or nip at you to make you squeak and push his face away. He thinks it’s funny to see you all whiny and flustered by him.

❀ Although he is undoubtedly a pain in the ass, he’s very caring to you when he wants to be.

❀ Even though he loves annoying and teasing you, he also knows there’s a place and time, as well as that place and time. If you’re upset or frustrated, he’ll offer you support, you’ll just have to deal with his snarky comments with it.

❀ Even being “helpful”, Habit is a pain in the ass to deal with. He uses his abilities to annoy you, such as moving the furniture when you go to grab something.

❀ He’s not necessarily evil towards you specifically, but dammit if he’s not annoying as shit.

❀ Habit bites you a LOT. Like, to the point that your friends were concerned before accepting his nature. He leaves bites all over you. It’s his love language, sorta.

❀ God forbid anything thinks it’s a good idea to take you or kidnap you for leverage. They’ll all be erased from reality within seconds. Habit doesn’t play when it comes to you, he’ll eat them.

❀ Despite you being a core symbol of peace, Habit does not like keeping that peace. He pulls bullshit magic pranks that piss everybody off, and then when everyone’s mad at him, he just shrugs it off until they complain to you.

❀ You’re probably the only thing Habit will let rein him in. And don’t get it mixed up, he’s letting you. If he didn’t want to back down, he won’t, but for the most part, he does listen when you tell him to cut it out.

❀ In this AU, Habit isn’t quite as evil as in canon. That’s probably why the two of you work somewhat decently.
