Malevolent Threshold AU where John was given a body on his own. Arthur had to come up with a likely story as to who John is and why so conveniently he became his partner (in work sense, it's still 1930's, pretty homophobic out there) right after Parker was found dead and so on. also, Faroe doesn't trust John (due to his sketchy backstory, sometimes weird behavior and strange relationship with Arthur) (she'd also probably suspect him in killing Parker) and is concerned about Arthur.

Here is a cute AU idea for someone to take. Arthur and John meeting in a writers’ circle. It’s such a small circle that poets and writers are both included and because of the differences in their work they often misunderstand each other’s work and generally don’t like each other. John comes in with one of his detective stories and while the circle likes it most just say it is lacking something. Arthur is the only one to tear it apart because the fight sequences and wound details are unrealistic. John is ticked off and asks how Arthur would know about making stabbing sound realistic when stabbing in poetry is all metaphors anyway. Arthur bluntly says he knows because he HAS been stabbed and then he walks away leaving John intrigued and wanting to impress Arthur in his next draft. Bonus bit is that he makes friends with a nurse named Lily to have her help with realism. Extra points if Lily is a nurse who is familiar with Arthur and starts noticing John’s stories referencing injuries Arthur has and has to take a moment to scold John for scaring her with the thought he’d been the one hurting Arthur.
