I actually recommend watching the movie first, then reading the book. I think that order makes the experience even better.
If you have Prime Video, you can watch it in lots of different languages, so if you’re curious, give the Japanese dub a try too!
One of my favorite things is that Eva Stratt is voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi (Misato from Evangelion).
I also love that Grace refers to himself as “boku” in Japanese—it just fits him so well.
Personally, I prefer Rocky’s original voice, but in the Japanese dub he’s voiced by Natsuki Hanae (best known internationally as Tanjiro from Demon Slayer and Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul).

Finally finished Rocky Version 3! 🪨🪡
This time I started by sculpting a clay maquette and making the pattern from scratch.
I split the pattern into a ridiculous number of pieces to get those rocky edges, so this version took way longer than the others lol
I’m really happy with how they turned out, though.

I got the “The Nice Guys” novelization!!
Since there’s no JP translation, I’ve been SLOWLY translating it into JP as I read.
I’m throwing my translation notes into a Notion page. If anyone’s interested, I can send you the read-only link lol (Warning: these are very much “my version” of the text and not an accurate or professional translation)
Also this is a completely self-indulgent side project, so updates will happen whenever I feel like it.

I’m only working on it with one hand while commuting, so it’s super slow-paced.
I’m hopeless at JP→EN, but EN→JP is genuinely enjoyable haha

It ended up having a ridiculous number of pieces, so it’s way more complicated than my previous versions and progress has been VERY slow 😭
I spent the entire weekend on it and… this is all I have to show for it lol.

I stopped by a craft store the other day and accidentally found a fabric with a texture that’s ridiculously close to how I imagine Rocky would feel.
It’s actually felt, not plush fabric, but if this new pattern works, I might have to make another one…
Not immediately though. I’ve spent an unreasonable number of weekends making tiny space spiders lately 🫨
I’m PROBABLY retiring from Rocky pattern design after Version 3.
After that, I really need to get back to drawing.

Rocky plush tutorial Part 2!
This time I redesigned him in chibi style for use as a strap! No wire inside so he can’t do poses, but he’s way simpler to make than the first one.

I accidentally saw the Season 8 thumbnail for H50 and noticed the cast changed a lot…

I want something a bit fluffier with longer pile than what I’m using now. I went to several stores but couldn’t find the right color or texture.
It’s kinda expensive, but I’m seriously considering just ordering it online…
I’ve been looking Tom Blake’s Rocky markings guide + James Ortiz’s all-angle Rocky refs…I started wondering if I could make a more realistic Rocky (but still chubby lol) Also I kinda didn’t want to waste my dark brown fabric scraps.
