Pixel post dividers for everyone! It's not much, but feel free to use them if you'd like. I don't know the ideal size for these, so let me know if they're too tall. I can make them a bit shorter next time.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ... THIS is a good welt pocket and the people who designed Simplicity 2895 ought to be blasted well ASHAMED of themselves for the crap way THEY wanted a welt pocket made. *SNARLS*
This is how I learned to do it and a good example of what you want to see in a short form tutorial: pinning, pressing, seam finishing, good fabric handling.
I would mention that you can make the pocket facing with a small panel of your matching fabric that is visible and the rest in a lighter fabric to reduce bulk. That's a lot of denim layers for comfort.
HOT DAMN
I really need to journal more

I think a lot of the problem behind the trans panic is the refusal to accept the current truths of hormonal medicine in order for reactionaries to maintain sanctity in the institution of gender. As more and more evidence comes out, we find that these supposed health risks of hormonal supplementation -- either cis- or trans-gender -- are inaccurate, and in many cases, there are improvements in the very organ systems we once thought were at risk. Seemingly, everyone would feel better and be healthier with increases in hormonal supply up to a point. But there is widespread resistance to this idea. Particularly at a time where more and more people are afflicted by endocrine disruption, seemingly through environmental contamination from xenoestrogens like pthtalates.
An example; TRT poses an issue for cis men. It will cause the testes to atrophy. Your body sees it has hormonal supply already, so it stops producing testosterone endogenously. This also prevents the production of sperm -- essentially effective and safe birth control. And it is, evidently, reversible. But there are various medications which sidestep this by signalling the pituitary gland or the testes themselves to produce more testosterone. HCG is the most effective compound we have in this class right now. It's really hard to get. And really expensive. The FDA is deliberately making it harder to get. I believe this is because it is primarily marketed as a fertility medication -- pregnyl. At a time where more and more people are having hormonal disorders, and more and more people are infertile, the medications to remedy these issues are becoming more and more expensive, restricting the lower classes.
I think, overall, this is all rooted in preserving the tyranny of genetic superiority. A lot of people have genetic hormonal disorders. A lot of people have hormonal disorders from environmental exposure. The more T or E2 you have, the better you feel, essentially. And many people want this aspect of health to be dictated by these factors and not medical therapies. Many people are made uncomfortable by the idea that hormonal biology can be augmented and manipulated, rather than simply being the body one is born into. It is a refusal of equality, instead clinging to one's position in a genetic hierarchy.
Like I don't think the prevalence of "take your fucking meds"/"go to therapy"/"get professional help" as the default response to people being weird or disagreeable is at all about "wanting people to get better" - it's far more about wanting people to get punished into conformity. The real message is "you really shouldn't be allowed to think/act like that"
There is an evident fascistic impulse to self-infantilization as a tentpole of one's entire personality. Cut from the same cloth as those people who buy their peace of mind at Disney land. Strikes me as something that can only be built on the insular luxury of the angloid world. Walling-out reality in favor of something more palatable. Something simpler. If everyone is just a big kid, then nothing really matters. It's all just a practice run. This seems to be something generated by a lot of American therapy culture, too. This kind of eternal adolescence.
my half of a trade with @birdiebeanz! 😊🎈
i have a psychological hot take that I'm not very serious about and it is that Internal Family Systems and the pop therapy framework of treating yourself as a second person in some sort of bicameral personality splitting is going to be looked back upon as shocking, funny, and regressive in 20 years. and I'll still be posting on this horrible website about it to say "I told you so" when it happens
“Dick Schwartz [founder of IFS] started calling them ‘critters’ a long time ago,” Falconer tells me. “They had a staff meeting at one point, and changed the name to Unattached Burdens, because it makes it sound a little more academically acceptable. This idea is like the third rail, and Dick’s terrified it’s going to destroy the reputation of IFS. But I thought it was so important that I wouldn’t shut up about it. It led to me being exiled from the IFS community for a while. Finally [Schwartz] came around and wrote the foreword to my book, and now they’re talking about it in Level 1 training.” [...] A core IFS dogma is “there are no bad parts.” But it turns out this is not entirely true. There are some parts that are not part of your Self. On the positive side, there are the “guides,” or angelic beings. And there are Unattached Burdens, UBs, or what are traditionally known as “djinns” or “demons.” As Falconer said, UBs have been a bit of an IFS secret, only taught in Level 3 training until recently. But a year ago, he published his book about UBs, with a foreword by Dick Schwartz and praise from other leading IFS therapists. This book has been pretty influential in IFS, underground psychedelic culture (where Falconer is active), and the wider New Age / spiritual culture. (He was interviewed on the Emerge podcast and the Stoa has launched a talk series dedicated to the topic.) Demonic entities are having a moment.
article
reportedly, many IFS therapists are now routinely informing patients that they are possessed by demons lol
Here’s another client who emailed me: “I’ve been seeing my psychologist who specializes in trauma therapy for about 10 months now. I made it clear that I was not interested in anything spiritual because I had a lot of that pressed on me, and I wanted to set my boundaries…After our meeting on Tuesday, when I discussed a very frightening embodiment of what I would call the abyss, or death, which I felt had its sights set on me….she told me she thought I had an unattached burden. At first, I was interested, thinking it was some kind of trauma thing, and then my heart sank. And then I got really pissed off. I have suffered from delusions in the past, she knows that. I have experienced psychosis in the past. I have been expressing very suicidal thoughts, and I’m in one of the most vulnerable times of my life, certainly of my adult life. I feel disrespected, but more than anything, I feel, honestly, it’s kind of disgusted with the fact that she could say something so irresponsible to somebody in my situation.” IFS therapists can dismiss all these examples as “bad IFS,” but it seems there is clearly a risk of IFS therapists and coaches suggesting or imposing the idea of a UB, and clients finding it harmful — even more so if they’re working with clients taking psychedelics, which amplify suggestibility. In his book, one observer even tells Falconer it looks like he’s making hypnotic suggestions: “Participant 1: [Falconer], it seems like you implanted a lot of little suggestions, almost like a hypnotist. Falconer: Well, there is a general principle here. These things are often full of pride, and you can use their pride to manipulate them. “ In other words, Falconer thinks he is hypnotically manipulating the UB rather than the client… I emailed the IFS Institute to ask if they wanted to comment on these issues, but didn’t hear back.
this is basically scientology. i called it, btw. i intuited immediately there was something decidedly unchic going on here
Another case of psychiatry just being mysticism dressed up as science. I don't even think this is necessarily a bad thing. I could see this being an extremely useful rhetorical tool to kind of re-format one's psyche into a disciplined structure, particularly if it's being used as a target for altered states of consciousness. A lot of deep meditation is pretty much about isolating and casting off specific clusters of thought in this way. And it works, at least to reach a goal. It's definitely an effective way to unfold the mind. But it's something that can be dangerous and needs to be used very responsibly, and probably needs to be a self-guided pursuit to guarantee safety. Not one handled by fucking psychiatrists of all people, where they'll rubber-stamp you with a crazy new psychic reality that you don't have the tools or cognitive structure to deal with and then say "see you next week." Because they're little creeps who think they know better than everybody. NO WISDOM.
This weird neo-mysticism also rubs up against the problem with how PNES functions, too. That the belief of one's own illness is what sustains it, essentially. By that model, exorcism would unambiguously work to dispel psychogenic seizures if only the patient believed in it enough. Praying would be enough if they believed enough. That's essentially how CBT treatment of psychogenic illness functions. They're just gradually re-inventing mystic practices humans have done for millennia, but all enlightened and civilized and shit. In ten, twenty years I'd bet this is what the dominant landscape of psychiatry looks like. Unless things change course significantly, that is.
