I’m not even kidding. It really is. Simultaneously infantilizing female gendernonconforming as something one grows out of after one is with and in consequence to being in a relationship with a man is evil.

These characters exist to reinforce heterosexuality and femininity as correct female gender. They take a gendernonconforming child with the capacity to grow up into a butch and turn her into an example that “even the stray woman can be corrected.” Violent logic not unfamiliar to us as lesbians and especially to us as butches. It’s especially sickening when heterosexuality is used as a literal “remedy” for their gendernonconformity. Again, this feeds directly into lesbophobia and homophobic panic.
