With Denmark, it's always one of two things. Either you're around his age, so he treats you like a friend. Or you're younger than him in which case he'll treat you like his actual son.

America does really look up to Denmark. Denmark is incredibly likable. What sets him apart from Prussia (who America also looks up to) is the fact that Denmark is better at reading the room and recognising when his chaos is welcome and when it'd probably be a nuisance.

I also think Denmark has a young soul in the sense that he 1) doesn't act superior to anyone just because they're young 2) because he doesn't let his age dictate what he can and can't be interested in and doesn't try to force this image that he's 'hip with them kids' by doing whatever he thinks is cool by their standard. Denmark does whatever falls into his brain so it always ends up being cool just based off of how impulsive he is.

Denmark's boldness is honestly where most of America's admiration lies because the way Denmark can go from solemnly discussing a pretty grave topic to going 'dude... I'm gonna see if I can climb over that railing and not die.' he doesn't care what anyone thinks about it. The fact that he never lingers on negative topics is also incredibly appealing to America who finds being vulnerable very unnerving.

Denmark doesn't make America feel annoying. He doesn't talk to America like he would rather be doing anything else. He's just a naturally very kind and warm person, and he makes literally everyone feel like they're wanted. He doesn't talk down to America just because he's younger. He makes him feel like a part of the conversation even if he doesn't really understand it.

Alright, headcanons time!

- Denmark absentmindedly puts his arm around America whenever he stands next to him.

- Denmark doesn't usually announce when he's about to do dumbass shit because Norway and Iceland would freak out and stop him, but America will always hype whatever it is up, so there's always an audience anyway. 'Guys! It's so cool! Denmark is gonna skateboard down a hill in roller skates!'
