Doctor Who Christmas special where the Doctor takes an aging tv actor back to the 1960s to see an episode of tv that’s been lost forever because the BBC junked it (he can’t prevent the junking, it’s a fixed point) and ends up fighting alien baddies and in the struggle the Doctor accidentally knocks a whole shelf of film reel into a fire because oh no! Turns out he was responsible for the destruction of the BBC archives the entire time! And then he turns to the camera to wish the viewers a happy Christmas

Smile is such a good Bill/twelfth doctor episode because in The Pilot he says that when Bill doesn't understand something she doesn't frown, she smiles. It's not difficult for them both to keep on huge stupid grins at the colony because they both get a weird, twisted joy out of insane and dangerous situations like this one. But also because the cause of the main conflict is grief, and the Doctor and Bill both have recently had to let go of the girls they loved.

My thing is I think 99% of every time the Doctor namedrops an important historical figure he's met he's lying through his teeth, unless he says so to an alien who's less likely to be impressed

i know the reason ian was always leaping right into danger and trying to save the day is because it was the 60s and the other main characters were a woman, a teenage girl, and an elderly man, so ian basically by default was the one who did all the fights and the dangerous stunts and all that. but if you look at it through an in-universe lens it is way more interesting to read it as ian having an insane savior complex. like yeah there's a bit of old-fashioned chivalry stuff there, but that alone can't explain how often he basically runs straight into certain death, sometimes just to help complete strangers. the only conclusion that can be reached is that he just wants to be helpful sooo fucking bad. why does he go after ping cho in marco polo and almost get himself killed? savior complex. why does he spend half of the reign of terror trying to find that english spy dude instead of just getting his friends and going back to the tardis asap? savior complex. follow me for more blorbo overanalysis
