Me and my fiancée are going to Japan for 2 weeks, and I thought it would be fun to draw a diary of our trip 🇯🇵

10 days until we go!

9 days left. A friend who lives in Japan has gotten us tickets to the comics festival comitia!

8 days left. Thinking about packing.

Travel day! Haven’t drawn for a couple of days. Just trains, airports and flights today.

Day 1 in Japan! We tried to stay awake, and saw Senso-ji in Asakusa.

Day 2. Typhoon warning in Tokyo! We walked, saw boats and avoided the rain.

Day 3. The instant coffee here is high tech and great. We went to Shinjuku and saw a compact and rad truck.

I think the biggest help when you’re starting out with armor is using reference. That’ll help you get a feel for which parts there are, and how they interact. Do a mix of studies of armor photos, and using reference to add armor to custom poses.

I held an armor design workshop last year, and I can upload my slides with some comments too! I’m away from home on vacation at the moment, but will do that when I get back.

Of course! I’m using:

Royal Talens art creation sketchbooks (great value)

Sometimes the Midori MD notebook (great at handling ink, but thin paper)

Daler-Rowney bristol board for larger pieces (my favorite, but more expensive than the other papers)

Canson Bristol board (almost as good as DR Bristol board imo, but cheaper)

I am one of the fan-artist for EE that you might have seen, I just want to say it's super shocking and life changing and I really really appreciate your attention and time!! (P.S. Is it possible to share the colour palette used? Also wanted to try my hand at some fan art with the game's colour palette, but no worries if you can't.)

The color palette was made by the studio Gibbet as they were working on the 3D models. Initially, Christoffer (the creator of the game) had a warm set of colors for his first prototype, then Gibbet expanded upon them when they joined the project ✨

I referred to the palette a lot when drawing the characters! Though after a while we decided to add gradients for both color and shadows to the character portraits, and I freestyled a bit more with the colors after that.
