The finished and updated version of the game. The first game I posted had a number of bugs and improvements to make, so I have fixed the remaining bugs and added a couple of things to further improve the overall gameplay.

A large part of the game was planning all the events that were going to play out, and how to create a therapeutic type of game. I had to further my knowledge of game coding from my previous game Alone, and it was super frustrating to figure out at first, but I made the game as simple as I could as I ran into problems whenever I tried to complicate it. Also the character design took a while to perfect but I managed to find an easy and simple character that suited the game.

The title for my game. I wanted to use a word after the work in progress was called There’s a Ghost in my Room which I thought was way too long, and too obvious. Paranoid comes from something people call me a lot when I feel especially anxious, as well as it being a well known side effect of anxiety. It also has the feeling of it being sort of intuition. So I thought Paranoid fit the game well. I created the type face for the the title.

The hardest part of creating Paranoid was creating the room that you play in. I started researching and experimenting with one point perspective and tried to include as much in the layout as possible, so you could see the whole room, and not omit any important details. I wanted it to be kind of a panorama shot, that included the entirety of the room.

I based my ideas for Paranoid off of some prose I wrote that talked about being haunted. I was suffering badly from my anxiety, and it was pushed further when I was told my room was haunted. I decided to create a narrative to explain and explore my anxiety and my story.
