ive only had the seeker (gw3 mount) for 3 days but if anything bad happens to it im killing everyone in orr and then myself
one of the many things I'm excited about re gw3 is the nature of it being a prequel and all the free extra depth that comes from that.
you're a vaelwarden, a protector of the people and spirits of orr. all the good your vaelwarden does, all the happy things that happen to them are going to be underpinned by these bittersweet, tragic feelings of "but in the end it was all for nothing". and maybe some people dont like that, but I think getting to see orr have it's fleeting time on tyria is like. awesome. maybe the vaelwarden will love orr and put their entire soul into caring for it all. and one day it'll all come crashing down and sink to the bottom of the ocean.
I could go on about how that the temporary nature of all that good ultimately not meaning much is very. life. that's life. and it still matters even if it all vanished. it matters because it vanished. but then its also what happens in gw2 that gives it so much meaning to me.
sure, everything your vaelwarden achieves is temporary, maybe nothing much in the grand scheme of things. but like 1300+ years into the future after everything you worked for was destroyed, someone who has never known you and your story will come along and be so dedicated to reviving the land that you loved and making it something new and cared for once again. some guy, part of a race you could have never conceived of, will rally the collective effort of the world for the sake of removing the rot and filth from this ruin that was so long forgotten. that legacy will encourage a whole new generation of adventurous spirits to flock to this place because they see hope and potential in what it could become with some care. they carry on your work in a new way.
the will of determined people echoing throughout the centuries. an unseen line between then and now.
thats just so awesome to me.
One thing I enjoy in Skyrim that there's not nearly enough of is the idea that ancient Nord culture was not what modern Nords imagine. There's Word walls honoring Redguards and Argonians, Tsun mentioning that ancient Nords actually valued magic, Olaf One-Eye being either a culture hero or a boogeyman depending entirely on who you ask. It's not much, but there is some sense that Nord revanchism is canonically misinformed and self-serving (like real life revisionist histories).
I really really love in game music events but the guild wars 2 metal legion concert just blows the competition out of the water for me. the fact that it's integrated into the storyline for the area with the songs being in universe propaganda is fascinating and the event itself is like hands down the best and most fun way to do an event like that I've ever experienced. you spend the whole time trying to keep the show going which means constant chaotic mini events where you do things like jump in a moshpit or stand in for backup dancers or fix the exploding equipment while all the while beating back fans swarming the performers whose parts of the song will disappear if they get knocked out. it ends with you having to destroy a giant burning metal effigy of a dragon that will sometimes just pick you up into the air and chuck you into the crowd who are all giant cat people. everyone on earth download the video game guild wars 2.

slight redesign of my wayfinder, iro!
as a student my biggest shoutout goes out to everyone who makes music and ambience mixes of video games and puts them out on youtube (such as the Golden Host for LOTRO mixes). this shit has saved my life this term.

LOTRO Week (May 3 - May 9, 2026)
Hello and welcome to our first LOTRO week! We're still a little under construction (hence caution tape Morannon), but I wanted to get the official announcement out at least.
This is a week-long event to celebrate the Lord of the Rings Online. Post art! Fic! Screenshots! Meta! Playlists! Whatever creative thing you’d like to share. OCs are very welcome. Tag your things #lotro week and tag us here @lotro-week to have them shared. (If it’s been ~24 hours and you haven’t been reblogged or seen a like from me @thalion71, send an ask or DM- there are any number of reasons it might have been missed.) There is also a collection on AO3 for anyone who wants to post their works there.
LOTRO Week is timed to coincide with the last scheduled week of LOTRO’s 19th Anniversary Festival. Our guideline prompts are below. These are optional and meant to give inspiration, not act as hard rules:
May 3 (day 1): PCs | Outfits | Epic Quests May 4 (day 2): NPCs | Favorite Locations | Side Quests May 5 (day 3): Monster Play | Festivals | Player Events May 6 (day 4): Roleplay | Relationships | Fellowships & Kinships May 7 (day 5): Origins | Scenery | Housing May 8 (day 6): Factions | Instances, Skirmishes, & Raids | Items & Crafting May 9 (day 7): Free Day
Currently being run by @thalion71 (or @aurore-parle-de-ses-idees for LOTRO posting). If you have any questions or concerns, please send an ask or DM! Elaborations on prompts can be found here. General guidelines here.

a core part of being on tumblr is watching the site kick itself in the dick
ok so Very loose ideas so far but. for a potential lotro fan week, how do people feel about something like:
day 1- pcs / outfits / epic day 2- npcs / favorite locations / side quests day 3- monster play / festivals / player events [like weatherstock] day 4- rp / relationships / fellowships & kinships day 5- origins / scenery / housing day 6- factions / instances, skirms, raids / items & crafting day 7- free day
the thing about smth like lotro is that there will inevitably be something one person barely engages with that's fundamental to someone else's enjoyment of the game. opinions requested here! for prompt groupings, overall organization, specific prompts, whatever
Good evening, young wizards! I have a new favor to ask of you. There's a corrupt warlord by the name of Julius The Seizer running rampant in Aquila.
Go take care of him.
Best of luck, wizards!
Wizards I have terrible news. Julius is rumored to return tomorrow...
You know what you must do.
umm. so theres a take ive seen floating around a couple times — that anders is, like, a white lib who thinks he should be 'owed a place in an ivy league' on the grounds of being a legacy student, or sometimes for being middle class. which like. i do get the joke hes a white man who distributes pamphlets yayy. but if we're talking like, Seriously, i do think this is... pretty far off base?
like... within the context of dragon age... anders is a person who was ripped from his family and incarcerated as a little boy simply for existing as he was. the education he was given was given to him Solely so the skills he learned could be exploited and he could perform complex, dangerous free labour to profit his captors — and as a spirit healer, he even more than his fellow captives (other circle mages) was at risk of being killed or made tranquil simply for doing the work that was asked of him, as spirit healing is considered a particularly dangerous specialisation by the chantry due to its association with spirits. during this time he was also abused, monitored 24/7, taught that his existence itself was a crime, a danger to the people around him, and — notably — even once put in solitary confinement (for a year!) for trying to escape. even when he did manage to make his escape stick, he could only do so by swapping one imminent horrible death in service for another (the wardens are basically a death cult...); and (if you take the short story as canon) he was also chased out of the wardens, again, for existing as he was (ie: for choosing to merge with justice in an attempt to preserve his life & form a partnership to fight for mage liberation).
when you meet him in da2, he is effectively homeless — he's living in a sewer, and still providing free medical care for the poorest people in kirkwall, while working with the mage underground to smuggle mages to freedom & fighting for mage liberation through 'peaceful' means (such as appealing to the grand cleric & writing and distributing his manifesto) for seven years. and when he finally snaps, blowing up the chantry, he's forced on the run again!
& that's not to say he's suffered and so he's incapable of wrongdoing, or being flawed. anders is, like— incredibly chantry-poisoned; he's absorbed the teachings of the institution that abused him, and this causes him to be incredibly narrow-minded and judgemental, often cruel in his estimation of mages who don't agree with him or fall victim to demons for acting in a way he considers weak-willed or incorrect, and also— it leads him to be outright racist, most often to elves but also about qunari when the opportunity presents itself. among other things, he's also more-or-less incapable of considering dissenting opinions, because he's so convinced he's right and the very real persecution he deals with every day has taught him that those who disagree with him are Dangerous, he's somehow both clingy and avoidant, spite can lead him to entrench himself in positions that are unutterably cruel (fenris...) and he has a really nasty jealous streak that can lead him to espouse nasty denigrating opinions of his friends he otherwise never seems to hold. also. he is Manipulative.
but i think that his experience do pretty much make the idea that he feels 'entitled' to an elitist position in higher education like... laughable. whose legacy is he leaning on for a position? he can't even expect his parents to grant him a spot Outside Forced Labour Jail. he isn't riding a nice midpoint here of "not technically being part of the wealthy classes;" he is basically as oppressed within the setting as a human can get! the only thing he feels his class position entitles him to that he isn't automatically receiving is, like, a right to a free life. he wants that for everyone like him! and he is to be clear often presented as demanding it Pretty Stridently and being pretty bitter that he can't have it. but like. he's right lol. he Should Have It. they should All have it. if there's One point on which anders is right it is What Mages Deserve. right
haven't had the urge to redownload genshin in a while (last time i played was during fontaine? i think), but the new mondstadt stuff is getting to me. i miss my silly little guys from there.
