and we only got the hate side of lesmand's love/hate relationship too. not only that, we only got lestat's hate for armand, none of armand's hatred for him. not only That, but what has show armand even done to make lestat hate him? he didn't drink from him nonconsensually, he didn't cut nicki's hands off, he didn't torture lestat, he didn't force him to participate in the trial, he didn't push lestat out of the window. turns out the reason "big boss" didnt actually call out armand for anything he did is that he never did anything to lestat. lestat just hated him for...being traumatised, i guess. and for this version of armand apparently the writers deem that enough.

So youve read the books and you find this stage of lesmand antithetical to the book because… they havent shown you what you want to see in the timeline you want to see it? And this makes armand’s writing racist simply because he is a complicated and nuanced character while being brown and he is not yet being loved and validated by one of the white men in the main cast? Things didn’t happen the way you wanted them to in the first half of the tvl/qotd seasons, and so the writing is bad and racist. and anyone who points out, reasonably, that you have blinders on for the things that have happened and been shown in previous seasons and re-iterated in this one is glazing lestat.

If we are going by the books, lestat and armand do not reasonably makes amends until the events surrounding Akasha and the Queen of the Damned are well in motion, of which we have only glimpsed in this season. Reconciliation between them is very clearly implied in the very first minutes of episode one. Even without Armand’s nonconsensual feeding from Lestat or a direct showing of his torture at the hands of Armand, there are still plenty of reasons for Lestat to hate armand.

Armand is a very complicated character, and from the moment they meet in the book lestat is both attracted to and repulsed by him in equal measures, long before armand gives him any “proper” reason to hate him. I think Big Boss captures this dual attraction-repulsion pretty well and very thoroughly captures where they should be relationship wise in the expanded timeline the show is inhabiting. I think trying to strip him of his complications and rushing lesmand’s storyline would be a vast injustice to armand as a character and assad as the phenomenal actor that he is.
