and like yes, you’re allowed to have fun on the internet, we should want more inclusive and diverse spaces in sports fandoms, but liking/being okay with rpf is not a “woke” take. rpf should never even be in the public eye enough for non-enjoyers to perceive it. and that’s what fucking pisses me off because so many of these hockey twitter accounts which yes, are minorities in terms of typical hockey fan demographic, treat rpf and fourth wall breaking like they’re allowed to because it’s some sort of way of diversifying the fan experience? of course you can have takes such as combating heteronormativity like not assuming nhl players are straight, but public quoting the jdtz ski lift picture with “suck a dick or stop queerbaiting” is absolutely not that either, if anything that’s harmful to marginalized communities AND breaking the fourth wall AND fucking annoying. the main issue here is just that these people are making jokes and bits on public accounts on a very popular site in which they share a fandom space with pretty conservative fans who will then have explosive reactions whenever the two clash which is often and it turns into a horrible mess of political takes mixed with rpf morality fireballs. like oh my fucking god, get it through your damn head that rpf will be badly perceived by 95% of the general population and that has nothing to do with political affiliation. the critical thinking machine is broken.
