— you're too subtle. | maggie rhee x fem!reader
you were out in the field talking with daryl before you, carl, and michonne are going out for a run.
"so, you coming with us?" you asked, glancing away from him for a moment to look at maggie, talking to glenn. "where?" he responded, not following your gaze because he isn't that nosy like the others. "we're just gonna get some supplies—ran out quickly..." he stays quiet, thinking if he should. "i'll go. who are you going with?" ... your eyes drifted back to daryl, hoping that it wasn't obvious. "carl, michonne."
a few minutes passed and maggie stumbled upon you after daryl walked away to wait, looking at you. at first, you didn't want to look back; she made you nervous, for most of the time. you debated whether to ask her something, knowing very well your thoughts will take over anyway if you try to shut it. "you need anything?" she shook her head as a response, crossing her arms infront of you. "heard you're going out, huh?" you hummed "mhm" casually, wondering why she's talking to you all of a sudden.
"actually, could you do me a favor?" she said, dropping her arms beside her hips after. you tied your hair up gently while mumbling. "yeah, sure. what is it?" ... she was just watching, then, "stop looking at me like you're about to pull me in for a kiss," she couldn't help but grin a little, "kidding."
you feigned soft laughs, your body feeling warm when you did. "funny... i'll get going with the others." you excused yourself, walking away with embarrassing thoughts just as you expected. you spotted michonne first, following carl, and daryl.
back at the prison, you arrived safely with the others in the evening. after placing the supplies in cell block c, you were laying down on the bunk bed looking up in your shared cell with daryl, sighing quietly. you had more things to do, and you can't just linger around after you went somewhere.
as you were coming down from your cell, you saw her again, but she's alone. you won't do anything, won't bother, nothing. instead, you furrow your eyebrows softly and sit down on the stairs behind her. you noticed that she's picking up a gun, inspecting it. "why're you here?" you asked, making her turn around slightly. she turned back, shrugging her shoulders without speaking. if she didn't mind you asking about her relationship with glenn, guilt would be eating you if you're doing it right now.
you then run your hands through your hair, looking away. "i wonder if you know what i'm feeling right now..." you muttered to yourself, your heart racing quickly because you spoke once again. when you wished that she was beside you, she moved, or so you thought. "do you ever just—feel tired everyday?" she questions, standing up from the stool and going up the stairs, stopping by to sit beside you.
"everybody feels that." you smiled slightly, the tension slightly building up when you feel her presence around you. "i remember meeting you... looking like the farmer's daughter, and all." you can't help but give in, you wanted to talk to her seriously like how friends talk. "yeah? well, glenn has mentioned that before—never knew i'd hear it from you, too." the thought of her talking about glenn to you felt a little sickening, your jealousy has been there ever since.
she looked at you, and she knew you felt it. "you're too subtle." she murmured, like assuming something for no reason. you slowly turned to look at her, meeting eyes. after so long. "what are you talking about..." you shook your head in slight confusion, realizing she looked solemn. how, she has kept your guard down for many times. "you know what i'm talking about." she reluctantly hovers her hand over your hair, gently brushing a stray stand away from your face with her fingers before gazing once again. "i'm..."
you lost focus under her touch, that's what made her keep in mind that she could do it again. "was i doubting you?" she asked, waiting. you looked down for a bit, hesitant to hold her wrist, though you succeeded anyway. "about glenn, you don't need to ask."
you were thinking about it. "i mean... i've liked you from the moment i met you, maggie." your thumb grazes against her skin, holding her firmly. "still do." you felt her move closer with anticipation, "can i?" you nodded, feeling her touch you gradually with intimacy. her hand lays on the back of your neck, making eye contact with you. you decided to try and reciprocate her movements, leaning your head up slowly. the both of you closed eyes at the same time as her lips pressed against yours, her tongue darting at your lower lip as you kiss again. your noses nudge as she leans you back against the railings, her hands enveloping your sides gently.
