#no offense but this is one of the best adaptations of grex #if you ignore the last like…7 minutes #i understand why it was done obviously it was the 40’s and the film needed a happy eneding #and while great expectations the book provides 2 endings #neither of them are really happy #so they did this #the thing that gets me is that leading up to this scene i think what was chosen out of the book to be adapted #combined with a few made up scenes for clarity #(dickens loves to hide relevant information in a nest of paragraphs that read like a total plot dead end)#are unbelivably well done to convey #the plot and narration style of great expectations the book!!!#it’s so crazy to me that this movie absolutely kills it as an effective film adaptation #just to fall on its face right at the end #i KNOW david lean &co could’ve done a better ending! they did brilliant EVERYWHERE ELSE…!#great expectations #1947 #grex #pip pirrip #estella havisham
