Advice on Endings
I hate ending my stories. I will drag a story on long after it should have ended even though I know it should be done with. If anyone else struggles as well, here is a list of the different types of endings that are common.
Full Circle – Mirror the beginning of the story, show how the tone has shifted from start to end
Bittersweet – Character wins at the cost of something else, creates emotional depth
Emotional resolution – Focuses more on the growth of the characters than the events of the story
Twist – reveal something that changes the readers perspective or understanding
Open – doesn’t answer all the questions or solve all the conflicts of the story, leaving room for interpretation
Quiet – Subtle, reflective ending rather than a dramatic event
Sacrifice – The character has to give something up to achieve a greater goal
Hopeful – Despite the events of the story, there is a distinct sense that everything will be okay
Consequence – Shows how the characters choices throughout the story impact the world or their relationship
Character choice – centers on a decision that defines who the character has become through the story
always some of the best advice on tumblr for writers
I never fancied myself one to freeze to death. Jack London once wrote a story of a man failing to start a fire in the frigid arctic wilderness. There was a time where I scorned the rapid progression of frostbite, and heat loss. Won't be doing that again, if I can help it.
The Freeze. That's what I had decided to call it. (Such a poet aren't I?). We were 98 days after the freeze now. Once I had thought that the winter would end but now I am not so sure. We were almost a hundred days since the Aurora and the weather has only gotten colder. Almost like the sun has been dying out. Freezing itself like the dying ice cube that was the earth.
In Truth I don't know why I am even writing this to you now; great reader of the future. Perhaps I am acting in defiance of Entropy, and energy decay. In some kind of hope that my last days will at least be entertaining to whatever asshole gods turned the thermostat down.
I guess Alan Kay said it best. 'We often think of survivalists as men fighting against nature, this is silly, for the man who fights against nature will die' or however the quote goes. I can't exactly whip out the old trusty smartphone and lookup my quotes for accuracy. I haven't died yet.
In any case. I can't keep writing, my lamp is going to run out of fuel in a moment. I can't afford for this Aurora to end and me to have to walk my way back in the dark.

big thanks to Firehydrant on Discord for this pencil drawing of Marzell and his buddy Grimp from my own sci-fi work "How Did They Get There?"
Please enjoy this very large fish that had to go swimming to catch.
You can't park there
It's you.
It's always...you.
For eternity we've been playing this game, never even realizing It, always coming so close together, but then splitting apart to reincarnate and try again in the next life, doomed never to be together.
Sometimes it was due to circumstances...like when I, the princess of Arabia, felt so important in the arms of a dashing crusader knight, only to weep at your lifeless body there on a cross you never did betray me, you were always so strong.
Or our own conditions...like when you were stricken with cancer, and died in my arms after you gave birth, having chosen the child's life over your own. You were always so noble.
Even if we don't find each other as wannabe lovers we find each other some way, like in geopolitics as two rival spies, dying in the heat of the battle that should have ignited that spark. You were always so competitive.
In the end, I always hope to see the light at the end of the tunnel, as the light fades from my eyes. Yet it's always the light of a doctor, as I start anew, somewhere on this earth, wandering until my path crosses yours, and we do it all again.
Perhaps I got my wish after all.
I've a few of these I did up in my "hurry up and wait" time during OSUT
This one's name is Felix

Of all your current/active OCs, which one is the oldest, in terms of when you created them?
Dubbed simply "Ragnar" he was one of the first I ever made, a couple years ago, back in 2021, a pirate and ex dragon hunter for a fantasy RP. One of the most satisfying character arcs and stories I ever wrote.
Whoever said Basic Combat Training was easy is lying.

I want owned physical media back, but I'm not sad to see DVDs go – optical media was always a transitional technology, and suffers from a number of intractable drawbacks. I want them to start selling movies on indestructible solid-state cartridges the size of a quarter, so I can keep my entire media collection in an unsorted pile in a random cabinet drawer and have to go rummaging through it like an amateur chef trying to find the lemon zester every single time I want to watch something. Do you understand? I want to lose the entire Star Wars trilogy between my couch cushions.
Nothing can compare to the feeling, as a big brother, of hyping your siblings up for years, months, weeks, for a movie they weren't quite old enough to watch. Popping all the popcorn, dimming the lights, cozying up the couch, and popping open that dvd drive and putting in a movie.
Scrolling through a digital library is bland and anti climatic. You cannot change my mind
Another silly RP doodle dump! With 1 older sketch I never posted because I act like some gjostly vampire who only comes out of hiding once every millennia on social platforms.
Anyways, as always, not all characters shown are mine.
1. Koios (Elias Mikl) my silly lil shapeshifter dude
2. Jackie (@gresidentdoorkicker OC) being the silliest goober (wearable art king fr)
3. Fangs and Bones (@officialmanhater OC) sharing some tea and biscuits with their beloved rat shifter friends,,, Rat and Dex (@distorted-smile OC)
4. Fangs having enough of Dex's silly shenagians and putting him in air jail
5. Johanna being the silliest goober alive (@silverfishhh OC)
6. Pixel wants to show you their tamogotchi girlfriend, you'd better look or you'll make them sad.
7. Identical Twins Nocomis and Petrichor Thronesbury. They are dumb and dumber. I lost my marbles designing their sweaters.
8. Relationship Chart of my OCs Ambrosia, Sachiel and Peta, my scrunklies.

There are many expressions that can be used to describe how hard it is raining. The more absurd the expression the harder it is raining. Today was one of those days. Those days when it wasn't simply raining cats and dogs but it was raining whales and hippos.
She cursed the rain, why couldn't the clouds have waited just a few minutes before throwing down their cold wrath onto the innocent earth. She could hardly see 10 feet in front of her. The car crawled forward agonizingly slow, seemingly timid, and scared of the golf ball sized droplets of frigid rain that bombarded everything below it.
She missed her turn and kept going down the road. She realized that she was lost when she glanced at the clock and saw that she was over an hour into a 20 minute drive. She pulled to the side of the road and shut the car off, staring at her phone as the battery indicator blinked red. She tried to open up her GPS, but she had no bars. The clouds up above were too thick.
She had kept the music up, along with the air conditioning, this storm had come from nowhere and she was not appropriately dressed. One moment it was bright and sunny, with ominous clouds brewing just beyond the mountains, the next trees were falling amidst the crashing rain.
Now she shivered. Almost selfishly she went to turn the key in the ignition, just to get warm, but to her horror her car stalled. The engine sputtered and died, refusing to turn over fast enough to roar to life.
"Son of a Bitch! You have got to be fucking kidding me, of course! Now of all times!"
She turned the key again, but this time she was greeted with a humble click, not even the sputtering of an engine trying to start.
Rachel slammed her hand against the steering wheel. Seething in anger she jerked the key hard in the keyway, seemingly believing that if she turned the key harder it would make the engine start. Alas, it did not.
She pondered her odds as she stared out of the fogging window. The nearest gas station was miles behind her, she couldn't go back there, she couldn't call for help, she had no service out here in the sticks, even if she had cell service her phone was dead.
She rubbed her face, flinging the door open, she figured her best bet was to backtrack and try to get home.
As she reached the back end of the truck she froze, breathing a sigh of relief. Through the fog and rain she could see light. Light meant electricity, electricity meant people.
She jogged down the road, trudging toward the cabin. The fleeting thought crossed her mind of evil creeping denizens, but she pushed the thought out of her mind, she had her pepper spray after all.
Besides, what scum of the earth had such a cozy cabin? Well tended wildflower beds, quaint picket fence guarding roses, oiled log porch and hand carved rocking chair.
She rapped sharply on the door, pounding above the pouring rain on a metal roof.
Relief flooded her sopping wet face as she heard a chain slide across a security lock and the door swung inward, then immediately fade away as she took in the sight of who had opened the door.
