tl;dr art museums will not save us, but The NY Historical might.
In addition to Oertel's 1852 painting of New Yorkers pulling down the statue of King George III at Bowling Green on July 9th, 1776, the Historical has also collected fragments of the statue, which monarchist scum in Connecticut saved from being melted into bullets for the Revolution.

was gonna do a whole blog post about it, instead I'm just gonna leave this wack painting of a nude Rudolf Nureyev scrunched onto a chair, painted in 1973 by Edith Simon, which Nureyev apparently owned? here. [doyle]

The line between art and furniture is thinner than the veil between this world and the next at Sotheby's sale of objects from the home of the late dealer Barbara Gladstone.

I think that on his draft card in 1946, high school senior Edwin Parker Twombly, Jr. signed his name Cy Twombly, and then went back to fill in his government name.

Marjane Satrapi, author of the excellent Persepolis, has died at age 56. Friends said she “died of sadness a little over a year after the death of Mattias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life”.

Cy Twombly's Lexington is deeply fascinating to me, if also problematic—it's the capital of the cult of the Lost Cause, for one, two, and three things. So I had to dig into what Twombly was doing in Lexington in 1982 or 1985, when he made 14 Papers, a series of drawings at Silverwood, an antebellum mansion that was not his or his family's house.

i don’t feel like debating that topic much farther bc truthfully if it comes down to “women will lose to men in every sport bc they don’t have as much testosterone!!!!!” my elite feminist response is honest to god “ok we will lose with honor as equals instead of having our own special Easy Mode Female category so we can win amongst ourselves” like i’m sorry i just can’t be persuaded. i’m a brick wall. i want co-ed sports
i bring a sort of “women can lose at some sports against men if it means being regarded as equals” vibe to the debate that “testosterone objectively increases performance” people don’t really like
rather than wait another moment to design a Junta Watanabe revolutionary fashion collection, I realized it was already here, starting with the Givova Visa Triacetato 4S tracksuits Italy dresses the migrants they send off to an Albanian detention camp in.

TIL Muji launched a limited edition car, the Muji Car 1000, in 2001. It was a stripped down, debadged Nissan March, and was sold only online, in an edition of 1,000. Except the seller of this example, in Kanagawa, says Muji actually only sold 170. Rare? Fail? Or both?

Love it actually! My favorite car for a long time was the Nissan Micra from around this time. Which I thought of at the time as a Japanese Mini...
