GrayTale - An Undertale AU

Sans appeared in front of his house in a brief flash of blue. Sighing, he braced himself, plastering his usual grin back on his face before opening the door and heading inside.

“hey paps, what’s up?”

Papyrus, who had been stirring a pot full of something that smelled vaguely like what might have once been tomatoes, now set his spoon down and turned toward his brother.

“SANS! THERE YOU ARE, YOU LAZYBONES! I TAKE IT YOU GOT MY MESSAGE?”

“yeah, you said it was important?”

“YES! IT IS! I’M GLAD YOU RESPONDED SO QUICKLY!”

“heh, yeah. so...what’s up? something wrong?”

At this, Papyrus suddenly looked oddly hesitant. He turned back for a moment to stir his pasta, his other hand fiddling with the edges of his apron nervously. “W-WELL, YOU SEE, I WANTED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN...TROUBLING ME RECENTLY.”

A summary of this week:

Gray’s now the janitor at Frisk’s school.

LONG POST I’M SORRY

(Okay so basically Frisk invited Gray over to their timeline to keep them company while they waited for Code!Sans. Code showed up, fixed Frisk’s glitching/virus problem, and left. Gray and Frisk got into a tickle war (which Frisk technically won I guess), Frisk went to go get Flowey from the garden, and then...this happened. It was just fun fluffy stuff and I thought I’d share it here, so.)

[9:20 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Frisk walks back into the room with Flowey in a pot and sets him down on the bedside table. Flowey looks at the other Sans and grins "Howdy! You seem different too Sans"

[9:21 PM] Sans - graytale: *eyes flowey warily* uh, hey.

[9:22 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * "Ha.. You're not this timeline's Sans.." They turn to Frisk "Is this one of your friends that you're always talking about?" Frisk nods and smiles.

[9:23 PM] Sans - graytale: heh, yup. s'pose you can call me gray. *he grins at the flower*

[9:24 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Flowey watches Gray with narrowed eyes "Okay.. Gray." They look back at Frisk

[9:28 PM] Sans - graytale: so...*he turns to flowey again* what's up, bud? *he grins*

[9:29 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Flowey glares at Gray "Don't." Frisk giggles quietly.

[9:30 PM] Sans - graytale: aw, what's wrong? i thought that pun was scentsational

[9:31 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * "Stop that!!" Frisk is giggling

[9:32 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * San pokes their head into the door "did I hear some sansational puns?!"

[9:32 PM] Sans - graytale: *he grins at the other sans* yup. care to join?

[9:34 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * "tibia honest.. i was a little busy but i'll join for some humerus jokes!" Flowey is shaking "STOP! STOP! STOP!"

[9:35 PM] Sans - graytale: *he grins wider, looking at the flower* aw c'mon, fuschia'd appreciate our jokes. you look like you could use a laugh.

[9:38 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Frisk was sitting at their desk laughing just as much as when they were being tickled. Color puns? Sure. Sans looks at Flowey "ya you were lookin' pretty blue lately. Our jokes would be a punderful way to cheer you up!"

[9:41 PM] Sans - graytale: yup, what he said. hope you're red-y to have a punderful time.

[9:48 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * "Let's just hope that none of us teal the other's puns." Sans winks at Flowey. Flowey yells "STOOOOPPPP"

[9:50 PM] Sans - graytale: *he snorts* hey, orange you glad there's only two of us, at least? *he also winks at flowey, grinning*

[9:51 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * "We could always indi-go get some more AU Sanses" Flowey glares at the two "This will stop or else I'm leaving this pot."

[9:53 PM] Sans - graytale: hey, that sounds like a grayt idea, pal! *to flowey* aww, leaf-ing so soon? what a shame.

[9:54 PM] Frisk-hbanana222: * "Ya.. Could you chloro-fill us in on what you would want to leave?" Flowey yells "I’M LEAVING!" They sink into the dirt in their pot. Oh..

[9:55 PM] Frisk-hbanana222: * Frisk looked at the pot "Oh.. That probably isn't a good thing...?"

[9:56 PM] Sans - graytale: ...hm. *he stares at the pot, debating between being concerned and making another pun. or both. he could do both.*

[9:58 PM] Frisk-hbanana222: * Frisk stands up and walks over to the pot picking it up. They tell the other Sans' he probably went to the garden. He wouldn’t go far.. They walk past Sans to the garden

[9:59 PM] Frisk-hbanana222: * Sans steps into the room and looks at Gray. "so.. are you Gray? Frisk talks a lot about you."

[10:00 PM] glitch-frisk: . . .

[10:00 PM] Sans - graytale: *he watches frisk go, then turns to sans* yup, that's me. *he seems surprised to hear that frisk talks about him* heh. good things, i hope?

[10:00 PM] glitch-frisk: yello you too.

[10:00 PM] Sans - graytale: *looks at glitch in suprise* uh. hey.

[10:01 PM] glitch-frisk: has a tendency to "already be there"

[10:02 PM] Frisk-hbanana222: * "Ya. Frisk likes you a lot." He sits at the desk "you must be a really good friend to them." He has a friendly smile. He's grateful that someone is their to protect Frisk while they are out meeting the AUs

[10:03 PM] Sans - graytale: heh, i try. *he smiles back, then looks over to glitch* when did you... *he trails off, shaking his head*

[10:04 PM] Sans - graytale: uh. see ya. *he waves, a bit confused by their behavior*

[10:05 PM] Sans/Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Sans watches the area where glitch was a little confused also. "that's good.. I gotta thank you for that bud" Oh no.. He tealed your pun o-o

[10:09 PM] Sans - graytale: eh, no problem. they're a sweet kid. really lilac-able.

[10:10 PM] Sans/Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Sans chuckes and stands up "Well anyways.. I was actually kind of busy. I trust you to protect the kid okay?" He walks towards the door

[10:12 PM] Sans - graytale: *he nods* I'll do my best. *he grins*

[10:12 PM] Sans/Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Sans thinks for a moment. Then quietly steps out of the room.

[10:17 PM] Sans - graytale: *he watches sans leave, sighing to himself after he's gone. his smile falls slightly as he thinks to himself*

[10:26 PM] Sans/Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Frisk walks into the room carrying Flowey in his pot. They look at Gray with a smile and set Flowey down on the bedside table. Flowey glares at Gray

[10:28 PM] Sans - graytale: *he looks up as frisk comes back in, smiling* hey kiddo. guess you found the flower? *he grins at flowey*

[10:28 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * They tell Gray.. yup! No more puns though okay? Flowey didn't like it that much..

[10:29 PM] Sans - graytale: *he is so, so tempted...but he holds his tongue. for frisk.* eh...alright, pal. *he shrugs slightly* guess i can stop for the night, at least. *he chuckles*

[10:34 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Frisk smiles and flops onto the bed again "I think I'm gonna go to sleep for tonight.."

[10:34 PM] glitch-frisk: you flop onto glitch as well

[10:34 PM] glitch-frisk: mmff!

[10:35 PM] glitch-frisk: . . .

[10:35 PM] glitch-frisk: hugs frisk and moves their head so they can talk hi?

[10:35 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * They hug back. They tell them that they didn't know they were there... hi!

[10:35 PM] glitch-frisk: it's fine. honestly, I'm always already there anyways, so it's better to assume I AM here than not.

[10:38 PM] Sans - graytale: *he chuckles and waves at the two* alright, i'd better head home then. sleep tight, kid. *he goes over and ruffles their hair*

[10:40 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * They wave to Gray and keep hugging glitch.

[10:41 PM] Sans - graytale: *he smiles, ruffles flowey's petals a bit just for the heck of it, and then, after a brief flash of blue, is gone*

[10:41 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Flowey moved backwards to avoid him "Don't touch me"

[10:42 PM] Flowey/Frisk-hbanana222: * Frisk laughs a bit then rolls over so they aren't flopped on top of glitch xD

Okay so I was gonna post a big summary here but tbh not a whole lot happened. And I’ve forgotten a lot of the little stuff that DID happen, so.

Two highlights: 1. Watching a ridiculous pillow war 2. The important one. Basically Gray and a bunch of others got trapped in the snack bar by a wall of magic ice. Lazy the robot managed to tunnel them out to the main gate...where everything was covered in ice as well. It seemed to be sentient, which Gray and the others finally figured out after quite a while, and it turns out it was caused by a wind named Northy, who was trapping them because they didn’t want to be left alone. Once they started talking, everything went well, the ice disappeared, and it turned out that the wind was quite friendly. :3

Also, I realized there was a small detail I forgot to mention from the previous day: there was an event going on when Fem started bugging Gray, where a bunch of people were suddenly going comatose. Since that’s really similar to “falling down”, Gray was understandably a little freaked out. So uh...yeah.

Quick summary of yesterday because a LOT happened and I wanna get it down before I start any roleplaying today. (Also I feel I should note at this point that this is actually the sixth time party, but the fifth one that Gray has attended.)

So everything started off pretty calmly. Blur is pissed that Gray still has the video of his clink with Judge, but other than that, not much happens for a while. Frisk is still lacking their determination at this point.

At one point they’re in the study, and Fem!Sans decides to show up and annoy Gray. He eventually gets pissed off enough to throw her out of the room, which I have to admit was pretty satisfying. Sorry, Fem! :3

Fem comes back, hurts Frisk, pisses off Gray...oh, and reveals she pulled out her soul so she wouldn’t have to feel emotions. They move to the snackbar at some point because the study’s getting crowded, and Gray eventually grabs Frisk (who has, unfortunately for him, not wanted to stay safe in the garden) and goes to Underdorms to find Fem’s soul. By the time they find her room, she’s waiting for them, and promptly kicks Gray out the door. Literally.

After a bit of a battle (that was oddly hilarious at the time), Gray gets Fem’s soul back in her and she falls unconscious. They head back to the garden. Fem shows up a while later and disappears with Halftale!Sans. Frisk has a conversation with Tone!Sans and hugs him...which brings memories of the first party back and restores their determination! YAY!

An evil Gaster shows up and Gray and Frisk go to the ballroom (along with Sofia Pro Soft). While Sofia and the evil Gaster’s not-evil counterpart talk, Gray, Frisk, and Corrupt!Sans do some zero-grav dancing. Awww. <3

Finally, Gray and Frisk head out to the main gate, and spend some time stargazing on the roof of the house. They chat and hug, and soon enough Frisk has to head back home, opening a portal to their bedroom. Sans lays there for a while longer, staring at the stars, before he goes home as well.

So...lots of angst, ending with plenty of fluff! Hopefully the second day of the party will be a little more relaxed...but really, who am I kidding? Haha. Still, things are definitely looking up!

(So basically @hbanana222​‘s Frisk has lost their determination, a bunch of crap is going on, and Sans is kiiinda stressed out and feeling majorly guilty and yeah.)

[Sans:] *blinks* um. yep. that’s it. *he sinks down on the floor* i think i’ve reached my limit for today. i don’t... *he shakes his head, chuckling slightly without much humor* ... *he just places his head in his hands and sighs*

* Frisk stared at Gray then leaned back against the wall looking up at the ceiling

[Sans] i...i’m sorry, kid. *he mumbles, still covering his face*

* They smiled lightly and closed their eyes not saying anything

...why...? *he pauses* ...why do you even trust me anymore...?

* They kept their eyes closed. Their smile quickly faded. They wanted to tell him so much but they were just not determined enough.

*he continues quietly, almost as if to himself* i mean, i...i got you killed. and i...killed someone else. in front of you. so how...? *he digs his fingers into his skull*

* Frisk opened their eyes and watched them. They began to sob knowing they couldn’t say anything to stop him. “Gray I...”

i can’t keep you safe frisk. so why would...you still trust me...? *his voice grows quieter, tears running from his eyesockets*

* Frisk was quiet

*he begins to tremble* when i’m not here...i cant even remember you half the time...i don’t remember what’s happened here, and then it comes back and i feel so much worse because how could I just forget? *he sobs quietly into his hands, shaking*

* Frisk stood up and walked over next to Gray. “Please... Don’t...” They were trying as much as they could to stay determined to help their friend.

I just...I’m sorry...I’m so sorry frisk...I...

* They learned against him and lightly hugged him

*he looks up, tears streaming down his face, and hugs them back tightly* *he sniffles, hiccuping a little* heh...guess you’re determined to stick with me anyway, huh?

* Frisk was relieved. They closed their eyes still hugging him. “I guess...heh.”

*he just smiles sadly and continues to hug them, his breathing becoming more relaxed as he quickly falls asleep, exhausted*

AKA what’s been going on lately cos the next Time Party starts tomorrow and I might as well get some stuff down before then right?

SO. Quick summary:

Tagged along to sort-of-but-not-really help to save Fable’s timeline. He basically did nothing useful, but he DID get into a fight with Fem!Sans cos she was hurting Frisk. More specifically, she almost killed them. He uh...kinda killed her. But then she showed up immediately after. So.

Time Party! Lessee, what happened this time? Weeeellll... -Angst (because killing and Frisk LOSING THEIR DETERMINATION OMG) -Kelpy the kelp plant! -Lots of puns! -MOAR ANGST -Aaand closing off with Frisk’s DT still not back...and him leaving them a note on a ketchup bottle. Nice.

But wait, we’re not done! Gray decided to show up to Frisk’s new school cos he was a bit worried about some of the texts they sent him...and uh. They both got freshified for a while. So, fun times. Fresh!Blur!Sans left him with an ominous word... “Cipher.” WHAT COULD IT MEAN?

So basically Frisk still doesn’t have their DT back, Gray may or may not be getting a job as a janitor at Frisk’s school, and although he’s better now, he’s still feeling rather guilty about various angsty stuff. Killing people, not protecting Frisk, etc. Oh, and he’s probably gonna finally figure out the truth about the multiverse soon...fun fun.
