OK, random, but I was bumming around today, googling Gravitation and Murakami-sensei with Japanese text searches and I came across a few twitter posts I wanted to share just for the fun of it. Lol.

Tweet 1 that caught my attention was originally posted, Dec 23, 2018, looks like Gravitation was in some anthology of sorts called, ‘Baby Comics Extra’ and the twitter user is a BL artist as well, and the translated tweet mentions that she wrote a two part essay about Gravitation that was published in this particular issue of Baby Comics Extra, and she also drew an illustration of Shuichi and Yuki which I thought looked really awesome and badass! ✧*｡٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و✧*｡

Tweet 2 that caught my attention made me laugh so hard. This tweet was originally posted, May 1, 2017. This twitter user seemed to like Gravi in the beginning, but they were raging about Murakami-sensei creating all her porn comics and posted this: 漫畫家 #村上真紀 is 人渣 which translated to: 'Cartoonist #murakami maki is scum’.

I’m used to coming across some occasional Gravi and Murakami slander on the English side of twitter, and I didn’t expect to come across a tweet like this, so I just found it funny. Like, whew, chill haters.

One of the many reasons why I love Murakami-sensei soooo much is from the very beginning she’s always done what she wanted to do with her stories/creative works without a single damn given, and continues to do so. And because of that we have the truly one-of-a-kind, incomparable to any other BL series Gravitation, and not to mention Murakami’s other creative works.

We love and adore you Murakami-sensei you brave, funny, unique, talented queen! \ \ \٩(｡•ㅅ•｡)و/ / /

Messenger (Messenger of Time), is from Gravitation Drama CD Vol.3, which features a sexy Ryuichi with Tatsuha in a provocative pose. It looks like this:

This song is sung by the great Tomakazu Seki, which is our dear Shuichi’s voice actor in Japanese, of course! Anyway, the song was uploaded a few times over the years on NicoVideo, or Niconico. PART 1 of 2: Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for translating the comic of Shuichi and Yuki with the smartphone that was uploaded on zerotalentscans. I sent a message to ZTS about this but I'm not sure if they're on a brief hiatus, so I wanted to ask if you planned on possibly translating other little comics from Murakami-sensei's blog? A few seem to mention the coronavirus, like Shu and Yuki being in quarantine. I'd love to read them, but unfortunately can't understand the Japanese text.

Hello! Yes, it certainly is exciting to see Murakami posting things again after a couple years of hiatus! She has a few different themes going on through the various comics, from quarantine blues, to a “what if” AU where Eiri is the one pursuing Shuu, and even crossovers with other series of hers like Gamerz Heaven.

Making scanlations of these is a bit of a tough road to navigate. There are warnings on the site to not repost/reuse her works elsewhere, so I feel she wouldn’t be very happy if she found out there were English versions being posted (probably a very low chance of that happening, granted). I would hate for her to get so upset that she stopped posting (I’ve seen it happen a lot with artists on Twitter, where they get so tired of people ignoring their warnings that they stop making art altogether).

That being said, there are still other options I could consider. Say, make posts with just the text translations rather than the images, accompanied by a link to the corresponding blog post. Might not be a perfect solution, but it would be one way to respect her wishes and still allow non-Japanese speakers to enjoy her new pieces. Some of it’s really cute and deserves to be wider spread! A number of them have been discussed/summarized in a Gravitation discord server (I don’t seem to have the capability of posting an invite link; maybe @tehkusogaki can provide one for those interested in joining?), so until I manage to make time to go through and write out the dialogue, that’s one place where some more information can be found.

I've been crazy busy and exhausted from work lately, so I've kinda let asks on ZTS get a little backed up and have been waiting for a quiet moment I'm which I have enough energy to answer them, but I might as well address this since you pinged me ( and feel free to at me any time, I don't mind ^_^)

Spazz is kinda right about translations, permissions, and respecting Murakami's wishes. It's been two years since she produced anything new, and she seems to be having a lot of fun playing right now, so I'd hate for that to change and her to disappear again.

Yeah, I did share that one translated image after hemming and hawing over whether or not to share it outside the discord, but I think in the future it would probably be better to share a transcript and link.

End of an Era

For those of you unaware, Murakami has decided to close down her site.

The news is not all bad however, she has started up a blog and has been pretty active on it lately.

She’s put a lot of images from her old site up, and some pictures that she previously released as bonuses for buying doujinshi from her mail order shop.

She’s even drawn a few new things! Like this adorable picture of a surprisingly grown-up looking Shuichi trying to teach Eiri how to use a smartphone.

And this color redraw of Shuichi’s and Eiri’s serendipitous first meeting. (which has already spawned some adorable fanart)

It’s pretty exciting to get new content, hopefully this will continue and we’ll get more Gravitation goodies going into the future ^_^
