Today we remember Hall of Fame member Tony Rice, born on this day, June 8, 1951. Rice is considered one of the most influential guitarists in bluegrass music. Born into a musical family, he went on to play with Bluegrass Alliance, JD Crowe & The New South, David Grisman Quintet, Bluegrass Album Band, and several solo projects including The Tony Rice Unit.

Remembering these two fellers tonight who both traveled on on January 1st (1953 and 1997)
21 years ago we lost one of the great troubadours and Fort Worth royalty, Townes Van Zandt. It’s time I make my annual pilgrimage to visit him as he lays in rest not far from me. Your words will haunt me forever, Townes. To live is to fly.
