having a thought I can't fully articulate about how normally video games conceptualise player agency as being part world reactivity and a much larger part power fantasy. and how scarlet hollow dials down the power fantasy but has a level of world reactivity that is absolutely off the charts. perfect for a horror game. you can see the ripples of every action you take no matter how small, but you can't save everyone. maybe not even yourself

the style of writing is not the problem, not the genre, not the subject matter, not even the words themselves. the SINGLE defining issue with the “Tumblr Prose” style i was trying to tackle is that it’s front loaded with imagery and metaphor and completely lacking in sense, reason, symmetry, motion, conveying information. i agree that plenty of writing can sound good and feel good to read when it’s all metaphor and visceral images but it needs to have a baseline that can carry it through or else the tail wags the dog and it’s all cool “quotable” lines and no substance, nothing to read between the lines, no character

I love that the scarlet hollow subreddit is roasting Wayne for basically doing nothing but aura farming even as he says to think of him as your guardian angel because honestly it's true. What he's really good at is getting you places you really shouldn't be for any reason but plot
