"Well, save it for the next." She smiled at her. "I'll give one to them too. Really, it's fine." Nancy promised her. She moved to put the order in and get Gabi a drink, so she didn't notice the sneakiness of the other slipping money into the tip jar. Once back, she smiled at her and was glad she was good. "We've been good. And always. I'm told I work too hard, but I like it." She shrugged and smiled. "How's work for you?"
Gabi couldn't help but laugh as Nancy mentioned working too hard, immediately nodding, "You...? Working too hard...? I would never have guessed, Nanc." She understood the drive to work hard, but she hoped the other woman at least got a little down time before burning herself out. When asked, Gabi sighed gently, "It's good... I've been advertising some personal classes, a few people have actually been booking in, but that's been good, y'know? And there's a new installation going in from a young artist from Harlem which I think the school will bring their kids down to see, so that will be nice."
Dean only smiled brighter when she told him to shut up, "You careee about me" he teased her, dragging out the word to emphasis it. He found it really easy to maintain his friendships with both Gabi and Andrew, neither one really wanted to talk about the other so they didn't ask about Dean's own friendship with them. He knew she was aware of his remaining closeness with Andrew, but he didn't know if Andrew knew how much time he'd been spending with her.
He laughed as she went along with his joke, not being able to resist making a dirty joke since she lined it up perfectly for him. "I mean... technically it's your ankle that's hurt, so you could still get down on your knees" he winked. He was kidding, of course... mostly kidding, anyway. "Yeah!" he said happily when they talked about him and his handyman abilities. If life had been a little bit better to him, Dean would've loved to start a contracting business or been a carpenter. "When I was younger no one wanted to pay full price for a professional to do it, so I would build stuff for like dirt cheap. I was only like 15, I didn't need that much money so it worked for everyone. I did like.. tables, porches, sheds" he told her, knowing he'd never told her about it before. "One time I had a girl over at my barn and she was complaining that it wasn't comfortable sitting in the hay so I built a chair for the next time she came over" he nodded, looking back over at her when she told him about her bed frame order getting cancelled. "Do you actually want me to build you a bed? I will"
Gabi tried to ignore him, clearly failing in rolling her eyes again as she found herself chuckling softly, "I said shut up," she reiterated, playfully shoving his shoulder.
Of course Dean was going to take the joke there and Gabi didn't bother to hide her smirk as she replied, "It's getting up and down that's the problem," she hummed, "Once I'm down, I'm down." She crossed her injured leg over the good one and placed the ice pack on the bruising again as she watched him work, "Fifteen and working hard on porches? Who even are you?" Gabi laughed brightly at the mention of building a char for a girl he had over, "That is both adorable and so excessive -- but somehow it screams 'Dean' in both ways." Gabi lent back a little to grab the instruction book (though she was sure after what he'd shared with her he wouldn't actually need it), her brow raising as she nodded, "Well yeah, you can't see a girl like me sleeping on the floor for more than a few weeks, can you? I'm happy to pay you, of course considering how much I've already wasted on waiting for this one stuck on the boat."
Cael was absolutely not going into therapy. He had no interest in someone prodding into his head and tell him all the things he already knew was wrong with him. His list of medical ailments was quite extensive as it was, especially since he needed a psych eval when suing the state of New York. Yet if there was anyone he would listen to, it was his mother, who influenced him into going through an alternative route and see if he couldn't find a way to improve mentally. He already hated it the second he stepped towards the entrance. Ringing the doorbell and fighting his own thoughts to just turn around and walk away, possibly disappointing his mother. His jaw clenched, heels digging in the pavement when the door opened, looking up until he met her eyes. "Gabriela?" @gperez-jackson
Gabi wasn't shy about being in therapy, it had really helped her through a lot of the issues that had come after her now ex-husband had announced the end of their relationship. She had been speaking with her therapist about how her artwork was helping her process things and calm her down and she suggested looking into helping others as well. Gabi had always offered one-on-one sessions on how to tackle water colours and oil paints as well as sketching live models, but she'd had a few good inquiries once she'd added her services to an art therapy website. Of course she wasn't going to try and unpack someone else's trauma, she wasn't nearly educated enough for that, but she was rather good at help people find their inner artist. Having just finished setting up a few easels, she heard the doorbell and made her way to the door, opening it with a soft and welcoming smile, "That's me, you must be Mr Montgomery?"
Dean smiled smugly as he looked back at her, watching the relief wash over her when she realized it wasn't him who was injured in the hospital. "You were worried about me, that's cute" he nodded. "You must really like me" he joked, batting his eyelashes at her.
"I might be siding with your mom, but if it's any consolation I think it's just about the only thing her and I will ever agree on" he said before laughing at her next comments. "You should be glad I didn't wear heels, I would've outshined you and we both know it. Everyone would've fallen so in love with me they wouldn't have even noticed you were there, so you're welcome" he joked more. Dean just shook his head again when she insisted she was fine, "Nah stop, just sit down let me do everything for you. Some people would kill to have me come over and take care of them, you should really take advantage of this opportunity" he teased before turning his attention to the half built TV cabinet on the floor. "Ooh fun. Lucky for you I am a handyman" he said, walking over and checking it out, picking up the remaining pieces and starting to piece more of it together. He loved his job, but sometimes he missed when he was younger and he got to build things, put them together, and create something. "You should've told me you needed a TV stand, I would've built you one way nicer than this. Store bought is not as nice as anything I could've made for you"
"Shut up," Gabi hummed with a roll of her eyes, swatting at him as if he would stop simply by her asking. Of course she'd been worried about him, he was possibly the closest friend she had now since everything with Andrew had gone down -- even if it was increasingly difficult to stop reminding herself that Dean was actually one of Andrew's closest friends.
She made a non-committal hum when Dean decided to agree with her mother, "That's no big surprise," she dead-panned, not at all surprised by his comment considering every other person she'd spoken to had also agreed with her mother as well. Gabi scoffed, though she smiled playfully as he outlined exactly what he thought would have happened if he'd been wearing heels, "Y'know what? You're so right... People would kiss the ground you walked on if you came over and waited on them hand and foot, but I can't really get down on the ground at the moment, so I guess I can't indulge you?" She shrugged far more animatedly than necessary before plopping herself down on the couch corner closest to where the mess of a flat pack was (so she could help where possible). Gabi was surprised to hear he would have made one for her if she'd mentioned it, unaware that he was that kind of a handyman, "Oh yeah?" she asked, settling in and watching him try and make sense of the mess she'd left, "Wait until I tell you I need a new bed frame. Mine's stuck on a ship coming from England so they've cancelled my order."

Andrew had been completely elsewhere with his thoughts. He was in and out of the hospital daily, visiting his father, his brother and his lover. He barely slept, and today he had to sign away his marriage. He knew it was for the right reasons, because they both deserved happiness, Gabriela more than him. Maybe it was selfish, but he feared that as soon as they would be divorced, he would never see her again. At least now they had a reason to meet. He sat at the table next to her, waiting for their lawyers to arrive. At least he had spoken to her on the phone to know she had remained unharmed from what happened at the carnival, it helped. @gperez-jackson
Gabi was glad to have the divorce finalised. Since moving from the home they'd shared together and into her own space, the signing of the papers was the last formality to go, the last nail in the coffin of their relationship and Gabi was ready for it to all be over. Her ankle was barely bothering her anymore, the bruising had turned from a deep purple to a soft green/yellow as it healed. It was the first day she'd worn heels again since the incident so she was a little unsteady as she sat down at the table, her phone to her ear as she finished up a work call, "I told him," she hummed into the phone, "He replied to the email I sent last week and said he'd see me on the 30th. Now, is today the 30th?" She paused, listening to the assistant on the other end of the call, "Good, glad I've not lost an entire week either. So tell him I'm out of the office and I'll see him on the 30th... thank you.... bye."
Dean shook his head when he noticed her looking him over for any injuries. He did appreciate all of his friends concerns, they seemed to know him well enough to know that even if he was actually injured, he would've never let anyone know that he was in pain. Luckily, he was actually fine this time. "Oh, stop it I'm fine" he said, not wanting her to keep checking to make sure he was being honest about his injuries. As he realized his sentence sounded worse than he meant, he turned back over to her. "I wasn't at the hospital for me- sorry." he said, before elaborating, "I went to visit Roman and make sure he's doing alright."
He let out a small laugh at her insistence that he doesn't comment on the fact that she was wearing heels, "Your mom might actually have a point this time" he smiled, "I mean look at me- I wasn't wearing any heels and my ankles are just fine" he joked, looking back at her before motioning for her to sit down on the couch. "Take a seat, don't hurt yourself" he told her, not wanting her to stand on it for too long. He admired the place for a little bit longer before speaking again, "It's a nice place, you want me to help you put some stuff away?" Dean offered, figuring it would be easier for her to just sit and tell him where to put everything than to limp around and do it herself.
The idea that Dean had been in the hospital but was insisting he was fine was obviously a rather oppositional idea, but when he clarified by saying he was visiting a friend, Gabi visibly relaxed, "Oh... I'm glad you're okay." she sighed softly, breezing over who he had been visiting before hobbling her way back down the hall into the loungeroom she was trying to unpack.
"You are not siding with my mother," she hummed, shooting him a playful glare as she made the short but painful journey back into the kitchen so she could toss her ice pack into the freezer and retrieve another. Gabi rolled her eyes at the comment about him not wearing heels, adding playfully, "Here I was thinking we were coordinating our outfits, but not only did I not see you at all, but I find out now you didn't wear your heels? So rude." When he told her to sit, she shook her head, "I'm fine... I'm just slow." Gabi limped back toward the couch and sighed loudly as she sat down on the love seat, "I can unpack... but I might need a hand with that--" she nodded over to a half-built TV cabinet, "--I'm not a handyman."
He could've never predicted the events of the carnival, but luckily Dean had made it out almost completely unscathed. He had sustained some small superficial cuts and scrapes on the side on his face and on his arm, but they didn't require medical attention so he didn't pay them any mind. If anything, the ordeal took a harder toll on him mentally than it did physically.
He was glad that Gabi wasn't severely injured either, and that their previous encounter together didn't make it awkward for them to continue their friendship. He knew that he was comfortable with sleeping with friends and acting normal after it, but he wasn't sure if she would've been. Dean smiled when she opened the door, "I'm doing good, I just left the hospital" he nodded. He wasn't there for himself, of course, but he had several friends who had been injured that he was going to visit and check up on. "How about you, how's the ankle?" he asked, pointing at the ice pack in her hand before entering the apartment and looking around a little.
Gabi was busy looking him over, making sure he was being honest when he'd told her the extent of his injuries. It really wouldn't have surprised her if Dean was underplaying his own issues in favour of helping others through theirs. Her head whipped up when he said he'd just left the hospital, worry clear in her hardened features, "The hospital...?" she asked, clearly prompting him for an explanation without having to actually finish her question.
She moved to close the door as Dean came into the apartment, hobbling still as she did so, "I'm living the dream," she deadpanned, completely over feeling like she couldn't move around freely while trying to unpack her new home. Andrew had 'given' her the house in their finalising of assets before the actual court date, but Gabi couldn't live there another second. She'd found a nice enough place and was happy to be there and start a new life on her own before working out what to actually do with the house they'd shared together, "It's less swollen, but more purple... and don't give me the 'this is why we don't wear heels to a carnival' chat. My mother's been reminding me every morning." Gabi knew she was lucky to not have anything truly serious happen to her, but she wasn't ready to deal with how scary the whole thing had been just yet. Joking seemed far easier.

As per usual Gabi had bitten off more than she could chew. Of course she wasn't to know that something like that would happen at the Fourth celebrations, nor that she would twist and sprain her ankle running from the horror that night, but unpacking her new place with a limp and having to stop every hour or so to ice her foot was really starting to frustrate her. She was thankful not to be worse off, and was thankful her close friends were seemingly okay as well. She'd made sure that Dean wasn't hurt in the chaos and checked he was still happy to come and see her new apartment that afternoon.
Things had been weirdly normal after their night spent together and Gabi was actually looking forward to having his company again. She'd ordered some food from Rosita's and grabbed a few drinks for them to enjoy and she was waiting on both the food delivery driver and Dean when she heard a knock on her door. She limped her way over, the bag of ice in her other hand as she pulled open the door and smiled, "Hey Cowboy... how you doing?"
She cocked her head and looked at the woman. "Don't you worry about it, okay? It's on the house." She assured her and smiled as she waved her server off to put the food order in and smiled. "I can afford a free meal to someone who's like family." She reached out and touched Gabi's arm. "How are you doing?"
"And I can afford to pay for my meal," she argued softly, "Save the free meal for someone who might be struggling -- or a kid who looks like they need a free desert or something." Gabi knew arguing with someone as sweet as Nancy was almost impossible, the older woman's demeanour far too kind for her own good. She spied a tip jar close by and quickly shoved a $50 note in there, pointing a warning finger to the server who Nancy had stopped from charging her, "If I see that come back out and try to fall back into my bag I'll be pissed." Of course she was joking, but Gabi wanted to do something to thank the staff -- and Nancy -- for always being so wonderful to her.
She turned her attention back to Nancy and smiled gently, quick to dismiss the question, "I'm fine. How've you guys been? Run off your feet here, I expect?"

Ruby had been looking forward to her break from Nancy's Bar and Grill booth for hours. Every time she thought it was safe to step away the line got longer. She got lucky and found an empty table to sit down with her burger. Though she noticed someone standing near by and realized that maybe they had just gone to grab something to eat. "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I steal your table?" she apologized, getting ready to move.
Gabi had been milling about for most of the day, wandering around on her own and playing a few of the games. She tended to fill in the last spot of a group game if a particular attraction required a minimum amount of people to play. Everyone was having so much fun it was hard to not let the kids around her cheer her up as they won the tin-horse racing or the clearly rigged game of darts. Finally having enough and wanting a small break, Gabi grabbed herself a fresh strawberry lemonade and found a table to sit at. Realising there was a rather large piece of gum stuck to the table, she grabbed a spare napkin and picked off the sticky spot, getting up to put it in the bin so anyone sitting there later wouldn't get themselves into trouble. When she turned, Gabi saw someone had sat down at the table and raised her eyes in soft surprise, "No, no it's totally fine--" she recognised the woman from when she'd spoken to Nancy earlier in the day, "--you guys are working super hard, you deserve to sit... are you waiting for people? Or do you mind if I steal the corner of the table? My feet are aching. Wearing heels was probably a terrible idea."

Nancy was cooking some burgers at the booth when she looked up and spotted Gabi about to pay for food. "No, no." She said and passed the spatula to one of her employees and walked over to who was taking her money. "She eats for free, okay?" She said with a smile. While she hadn't known Gabi well, she knew her through Andrew and while the two were getting divorced, she was going to keep being nice to the woman anyways. After all, it was who she was. Her employed walked away and she smiled at the woman. "How are you, dear?"
It was getting harder for Gabi to try and avoid Andrew's people in Easthaven. So much so that she'd considered if she should simply move and start over somewhere new once the house had sold and she was officially divorced, but she was trying her best not to focus on the negative. She'd always loved the drinks and food at Nancy's and, since she wasn't actually on the front counter Gabi had thought maybe she'd get away with a nice snack and drink without having the potentially awkward encounter with the other woman. To her surprise, the server was interrupted by the woman in question and Gabi quickly shook her head, "No... no, Nancy it's fine! I'm happy to pay, please..." She hated the idea of getting anything for free, especially when she knew Nancy and her team worked so hard, "I'm good, thank you... I really would prefer to pay though, please."
Simon had always had little to no problem with taking space. He came from an affluent family, he had what he considered an important job, and he felt himself rather important as well. So speaking loudly and without a care in the world wasn't something he cared to stop. But even he had to admit she might have a point. He put his phone away in his pocket and sighed. "I hope it was interesting then." It probably wasn't for anyone who isn't closely following the trading market or thought about the finances beyond their bank account. While those things might be fascinating for Simon, as well as simply crucial for his job, he was aware that this wasn't the case for most people. "So what, you're not here to have loud conversations on the phone?"
She nodded as the man spoke of the conversation being interesting, "Positively riveting," she deadpanned, unable to help herself as she chuckled a moment later. If he had been divulging his inner-most secrets to whoever was on the other end of the phone she would have made a point to block out the conversation or leave the area to give him some privacy, but he hadn't been, so surely his conversation was fair game to those around him. Gabi knew smoking wasn't good for her, but sometimes it was easier than actually taking a break and getting lunch. "I left my phone in my office," she revealed, holding up the cigarette before shrugging, "Thought I'd come have a break before my actual break, y'know? Get some sun before I turn into a vampire locked away all day."
Dean smiled down at her as she leaned into his chest, happy she seemed to be as interested as he was. They came together so naturally, the way they moved, the way they looked at each other. It was very in sync, and he would never admit it to her or anyone else, but he felt very comfortable with her. Normally he tried to be charming and sweep people off their feet, but he could be fully himself with her. Even with all of the signals pointing to her being interested in him, he was still slightly surprised that she agreed to come home with him. Sleeping with your ex-husbands best friend didn't seem like the best move- he figured maybe she didn't think about it too much, or that if she did she didn't care. Either way, he wasn't complaining.
He pulled their hands up after her intertwined their fingers together, kissing the back of her hand softly before letting their arms fall again- not letting go. "We have to find your jacket first, I like that jacket you can't lose it" he said, looking around them before spotting it over by the pool table. "Ah! Found it" he said brightly, taking her with him to go grab it. Even still, he never let go of her hand. To say that Dean was slightly touch starved and more than a little clingy would've been an understatement. He hadn't noticed that he was doing it, but he was rubbing the back of her hand softly with his thumb as he held it. With her jacket in one hand and her in the other, Dean nodded in the direction of the exit. "Come on, let's get out of here" he said, pulling her out to the exit with him.
In the morning Gabi would be thankful that Dean had the good sense about him to find her jacket considering how much money she'd impulsively spent on it, but as he began to look around for it, she let out a groan, "It's fine..." she insisted, wanting more to leave the bar with him than spend the time looking for her jacket. In the morning, Gabi was surely going to rethink the entire scenario of the two of them leaving to gether in the first place, but that was a later problem, it certainly wasn't a six-drink-four-shots-deep problem.
Thankfully Dean's eyesight was better than the length of her patience and the jacket was securely with him before she could insist again that she didn't need it. Her hand stayed in his, a strange but welcome comfort coming from the gentle caress of his hand. She hadn't felt the comfort of someone other than the bland words from her therapist in what felt like an eternity, so even if they weren't leaving together, the warmth of a hug would have been almost enough to keep her going. Soon she found herself being led toward the exit and, just as they reached to cool night air, Gabi tugged on Dean's hand, forcing him to turn into her as she spoke, "Hey Cowboy...?" Before he could answer, she'd tugged again and lent up to press her lips to his.
Sully had not for many years had one place that he call his home. Till two years ago when he moved to New Haven. Before he was always on one cruise ship or another. The most having a few weeks off when he was changing one ship to another. But mostly he was always gone, working traveling the world. So he rarely saw his family even know he always had his family take the cruise a few times a year to see him. But it was the cause of both of his divorces over the years. That he wasn't around and that was hard on a young family. Then his own family had their business so he was busy and away from them. But here he goes moving to another state far from most of his family now. His own kids in another state, but both old enough to have their own lives.
But the Adventure Center was the place he loved and he knew that it was made to be part of him. That he could have action and entertainment like he was used too on the cruise ship. So he was glad to be walking around doing his thing. He knew the past owner was just the owner he just owned it, he didn't work it like Sully did. Hearing what she asked he looked around as he was behind a counter and looked around "I am just pretending to be" he laughed. "But yes I do, do you need any help?"
Gabi couldn't help but laugh at the man's reply, feeling rather stupid for even asking considering he was behind the counter, "Sorry," she replied rather sheepishly, "that was a pretty stupid question wasn't it?" she approached the man with a slight shrug, explaining why she'd come to the Adventure Center in the first place, "My dad is a pretty... look, I don't want to say boring, but he's a pretty chilled out sort of man. He's into doing stuff alone, like fishing and going out on his little tinny boat on his own to relax... so I guess I just want to find something he could use to help with that sort of a hobby...?" Gabi paused, looking back at the older man and sighing through her nose, "I'm sorry, I'm rambling... I just don't know where to even start."

They had taken more shots, and played some very, very bad rounds of pool, so by now, Dean was undeniably drunk. He knew his limits and he didn't pass it, but he was still far from sober. One thing that anyone who knew him could tell you was that there was a certain point when he started drinking where he only had one thing on his mind- and that was now. He didn't care that she was his best friend's ex-wife, he didn't care that they were good friends- the only thing that he could focus on was how fucking amazing she looked right now.
Dean walked over to her, taking a large sip to finish his drink before placing it down and wrapping his arm around her. "You know it's getting pretty late, I think they're closing soon" he said, smirking, "But I'm not really tired yet so" he told her, a small smile forming on his lips as he looked down at her and said, "Come home with me." He wouldn't have been upset or offended if she said no, but for whatever reason he was pretty sure she was thinking the same thing he was.
The drinks had flowed as easily as their conversation had and Gabi was definitely feeling more intoxicated than she'd intended to get. Usually she'd feel a little vulnerable being drunk in public, but Dean was one of the only people she felt safe around in situations like the one they found themselves in. They'd not done well at pool, but Gabi honestly couldn't have cared less. She was having more fun than she'd had in months and she had no one else but Dean to thank for it. At some point in the night her gaze had stopped being on everyone else in the bar and focussed solely on Dean's attention, wondering if it was the alcohol or if he was doing the same.
Her jacket was long gone, the alcohol warming her from the inside out and causing her to run a little hotter than usual. As Dean moved his arm around her she felt his fingers graze against her exposed hip which warmed her all over again and Gabi easily turned into his chest as he spoke, "Oh yeah...?" she asked, looking over his shoulder to see one of the bartenders clearly wiping down their section. Her lips curled into a playful grin as he finished his thought and before actually thinking it through, Gabi found herself nodding, "Well since you asked so nicely..." she trailed off, moving her hand slowly down his chest before finding the hand he had wound around her so she could lace their fingers together and give Dean the opportunity to tug her away toward the exit.
Dean shook his head, "No- definitely not. That's like my worst nightmare" he protested quickly. He wasn't actually opposed to it, he actually thought it was would really fun to hang out with both women together. He raised his eyebrows when she said he seemed like he'd enjoy punishment, "Okay- listen- listen.." he said, not denying that fact, "That's not..completely inaccurate" he admitted with a laugh. Dean was never shy about talking about his interests, he was very open about his preferences.
He looked back at her, shaking his head when she said neither of the shots were for him, "That's it, I'm taking them both now" he joked, but he wasn't nearly as drunk as he'd like to be yet so he was already planning on getting more shots after the ones she ordered. Dean just stared at her for a moment after her comment, "You can't say that to me, now I'm picturing it" he said, his cheeks turning a slight red color. He had a very active imagination, so his mind took that comment and ran with it. "I'm not going to be able to think of anything else for at least the next 10 minutes" If only she knew how easily she could have him wrapped around her finger.
"You better not," Gabi shot him a cheeky warning glance when he mentioned the taking the tequila for himself, even though she'd threatened to have both mere moments before, "I'll get my nails out, Dean." Again, it was something she almost mentioned he probably wouldn't be opposed to, but if she did that she'd be commenting on almost every playful comment she had to offer that evening and then they'd just be blatantly flirting with each other. This was more fun, at least in her opinion. As said shots arrived, limes and salt shaker lined up next to the glasses, Gabi eyed Dean before picking up the salt shaker and offering it to him as as form of a truce that they'd each take a shot. She licked the top of her hand so the salt would stick and held her hand out too, waiting for Dean to use the shaker for her.
A wide grin broke over Gabi's features as she spotted Dean's reaction to the comment about her heels and she found herself laughing easily, "Oh you like the sound of that, huh?" she teased, purposefully clicking her heels rather loudly as she took a few steps toward Dean, "I'll keep that little titbit stored way back in my head should I ever need a one up on you."
