A lot of people will pay lip service to the idea that people are defined by their actions rather than their thoughts because you fundamentally cannot see into someone else’s head. Many will say that they agree with this until it’s someone who experiences impulsive, pervasive thoughts about harming others. Those people are actually secretly super evil, nevermind the strength and love they have in their hearts for actively resisting these urges and how scary it may be for them. If you have symptoms of mental illness that are demonized instead of romanticized, you’re literally predestined to go to hell don’t you know?

Being a child and crying from remorse because the person who is basically your whole world and keeps you alive is yelling at you over something you probably didn’t know was wrong, only for them to start yelling louder because you’re apparently being “manipulative” for showing remorse the only way your probably less than five year-old brain knows how is horrifying. Nevertheless, this behavior from the parent is just seen as perfectly OK and not at all abuse by a lot of people.

People DESPERATELY need more empathy for children. Jesus Christ.
