He supposed it was appropriate for his boyfriend to act like a cat and just climb into his lap whenever he wanted to, Atem was Egyptian after all.

you dont know how much ive agonized over this since finishing the manga and watching the movie i have MANY thoughts about how much different MW shouldve been handled for the both of them and how ANNOYING and how much it SUCKS neither of them get any form of closure during that arc or even TALK to each other directly outside of monster world

it bothers me to no end how must wasted potential ryou was bestowed because things shifted focus to other characters and the card game. ryou and yamiba were set up to be PERFECT foils to yugi and yami yet got hard sidelines because the narrative changed and they just weren't important to the bigger picture anymore it feels like-- which dissolves even further once the anime adaptation is made and theyre both essentially erased from the plot entirely outside of Mandatory story beat moments

i could talk a lot about how ryou/bakura is the embodiment of "potential man" but thats for a post i should make on my own time and not in an ask

lost potential doesn't even describe it properly. there's a whole story unwritten here that the entire plot and cast would have benefitted from. ESPECIALLY with tkb as atem's foil too. we were this->👌fucking close to having a deeply contemplative narrative about moral greyness. they were both justified in their actions. atem didn't want to inherit the enemies his father made, he wasn't responsible for the atrocities committed in kul elna; tkb rightfully wanted to avenge his family and home, and somebody had to answer for what had been done.

all of the tiny details we get about tkb's past shine brilliantly— they stick with the audience because sympathy is such a powerful thing, but those snippets are so few and far in between. and i get that it's because he's the bad guy and atem is the good guy. because we can't go making our characters too nuanced or we might scare off the people who invested 0 points in reading comprehension.
