we can have a mature and civilized conversation about meat products having a bad impact on the environment, however a lot of the time this comment is particularly used in retaliation to “ai is bad for the environment”. It often comes from someone who themselves have not tried to lessen their beef consumption. It comes from a place of malice, and wanting to have a “gotcha” moment.

also, I think it’s good to take into account that while one burger uses more water than an ai prompt does, unless you’re the number 1 burger fan you are consuming burgers much less frequently than an ai user using prompts. Someone who eats burgers will most likely have it less than once per week, whereas an ai user will probably use multiple prompts daily.

also for anyone wondering:

one burger - 2400 litres

one ChatGPT prompt - 0.5 litres

ANOTHER NOTE (sorry), it’s not always about what’s worse, it’s what we can cut down to make the environment better. using ai when we were perfectly fine without it before is a BAD move, especially during a climate crisis!
