In the Pony MCUniverse the Super Soldier Serum is an attempt to create artificially created Alicorns. Old Glory is the only success they had-however magic, just like science, is not inherent and alicorn-level power must be studied and practised over decades. Old Glory doesn’t want to do that.

Much like how Steve Rogers has a high IQ but no interest in becoming a scientist, Old Glory only learns spells significant to him; amplifying his voice to be heard on the battlefield, becoming a living beacon to lead the way etc. Historians were confused for years as to why an alicorn seemed unable to perform toddler-level spells.

(Old Glory did not become royalty why the way alicorns in the show immediately did; not only did he not ascend naturally, he also has zero interest).

When Hydra created their own serum, the successes came with misshapen horns and wings. These were immediately sawed off to prevent their prisoners having any semblance of protection or power. These were instead replaced with prosthetics attached to the stumps that can be removed and re-attached at Hydra’s will. This also makes it easier for their Super Soldiers to go undercover as unicorns, earth ponies and pegasi respectively. The horn acts as a magical lightning rod to channel power, however this deliberately dampens the users magical abilities leaving them, so they can use limited magic to help on missions, but no more than ‘pick up’ or ‘put down’.

(Not shown here before I refuse to draw mecha, but Tony Stark, (who I don’t have a name for) is a powerful unicorn who has spent his life studying magic. His main dream in life was to become an alicorn to impress his father even after his death. Unable to accomplish this he resents Old Glory for YEARS after meeting him; furious that not only did he not ‘earn’ being an alicorn, but that he doesn’t even care about magic).

Bruce Banner is a unicorn however The Hulk takes more after kirin than alicorns; becoming a giant ball of fire when angry.

Hawkeye is an earth pony.

Sam Wilson is a pegasus.

Nick Fury is an earth pony

Tchalla (the battle to become Black Panther also ends with the winner becoming an alicorn)

Shuri (the entire royal family is alicorns in Wakanda honestly)
