some of my favorite film theory and film criticism approaches <3
sometimes life is just, so beautiful. art in motion. today while riding the bus i saw a randomized license plate that happened to say âCAARâ and i cried real tears
I drive past a green truck with the plate GRN TRUK every day and it makes me smile because, yeah man, it fucking is
You really should add your pronouns in your bio
i get this ask a lot and like. itâs a lil frustrating bc the whole reason ppl starting pushing everyone to put pronouns in their bio was so trans ppl werenât outed or othered for having their pronouns listed.
but now itâs used as a dog whistle to lyk whoâs âwokeâ and who isnât (even tho plenty of the ppl w their pronouns in their bio are still bigoted in many ways). so now everyone is assumed to be cis and pressured into putting their pronouns in every social media they have, thus once again othering trans ppl and forcing them to out themselves
im not cis. im not entirely sure which pronouns i prefer or will use. ppl going âyou should list your pronounsâ either outs me or forces me to pick pronouns that may feel misgendering just to appease a largely cis crowd.
she/he/they are fine. i also have no desire to list that for thousands of ppl to see. i am referred to as she/her irl by p much everyone. sometimes it sucks, but it also kinda sucks getting used to using he/they only to know i am not in a position to use that irl at this moment.
just came across a tiktok where someone was like âI hate when weâre going around introducing ourselves w our names and pronouns and some cis guy is like âI donât have a preferenceâ oh yeah steve? Youâll be okay if we call you she/herâ
and itâs like. how do you know theyâre cis!!!! yes, i get that transphobes hate the pronoun thing and always have dumbass responses but you canât assume that everyone who doesnât immediately divulge specific pronouns or isnât comfortable sharing them is a cisgender transphobe. i know most ppl assume im a cis woman even tho im nonbinary and itâs disheartening how many ppl would label me transphobic(?) for saying i donât have a preference on pronouns atm.
another tiktok was showing a clip of a group of people being asked their pronouns and they all said âliterally anything it doesnât matter to usâ and all the comments were âwhy was the group of women so aggressive abt it :/ just say she/herâ and one of the people from the clip had to comment and say âhey, weâre all questioning our gender rn so we donât have an answer pls donât assume weâre cis womenâ and they shouldnât have to fucking do that just bc yâall decided you were entitled to out people!!
and itâs sm worse for tma nonbinary and trans people who are often excluded from the conversation entirely.

Top Ten Reasons You Should Hire Me Despite My Disillusionment With Reality And My Subsequent Hatred For The System
This is funny, but I can tell you why right now without a study
Glasses give you an immediate and blinding indication if your mask is not worn properly. If you wear glasses you are more likely to secure the mask tightly to ensure you dont fog up your glasses.
And 2, no one can sneeze or cough on ur eyeballs
I know the study hypothesized that itâs because glasses wearers donât touch their face as much. But as a glasses wearer, I think Fatsexybitch is onto something with #1.

Phoebe and Monica get arrested at a suffragette rally. Rachel goes on a date with H.P. Lovecraft and is not familiar with his work. Ross dies of influenza. Joey and Chandler make love in a World War I foxhole.
thereâs a misconception that grief only happens when we lose people. this is not true. we can grieve circumstances, relationships, missed opportunities. in fact, sometimes when you find yourself plagued with waves of emotion from sadness to melancholy you may be grieving yourself. the version of yourself that you might have been if things had been different, or if only you had said something, or if someone had stood up for you.

Imagine if people applied the âoutdoor catâ logic to dogs too. Weâd have a bunch of dogs running outside freely, collecting parasites and diseases, getting hit by cars, harassing/killing any smaller animals and breeding like crazy. And when you told someone that they probably shouldnât let their dog outside without a leash because itâs not exactly safe, theyâd just be like âoh well you know heâs happier that way and all that stuff is just a normal part of a dogâs life lol what can ya do ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻâ.
Honest to God, this is what living in the rural South is like.
Our neighbors have a dog that literally roams the neighborhood. She has been hit by cars twice. Sheâs been infested with mange. She shits in every yard but her own. The difference is that⌠like, most people would agree these people are shitty, irresponsible pet owners for allowing their dog to do this. We have leash laws, etc., for dogs, and if it was anywhere but Kentucky where animal welfare laws are shit, law enforcement would probably come make them keep their dog confined to their own property. If she bites someone, theyâd sure as fuck be liable. But everyone jumps up in defense if itâs a cat living the exact same life because âoh heâs got freedom, heâs happy, heâs not as âdomesticatedâ as a dog!â
Can I then apply dog logic to cats? Because something Iâve noticed is that cats donât get socialized⌠like at all. The whole âAsshole catâ stigma? Itâs because said cat was never socialized and desensitized to things!Â
When I got Holly, I socialized her the same way I would have socialized a puppy. She got to meet a bunch of new people, she got taught how harnesses and leashes work, and she got exposed to a TON of âuncomfortableâ situations. Car rides? Exposure. Going with me to Petshmo? Exposure. Being around a large group of people? EXPOSURE!Â
Wanna know the result? I now have a cat thatâs perfectly comfortable going on walks, going on car rides, and actually prefers her leash to being in a carrier! She loves people, and sheâs friendly and not shy or defensive even if the person approaching her is a total stranger. She likes going places, even the vets office, because those arenât terrifying experiences to her anymore because she got used to a lot of the stimuli as a 5 month old kitten (which is how old she was when I adopted her from the shelter). Every person who meets her remarks about how friendly and confident she is. Thatâs directly a result of how I socialized her as a kitten.
My other two cats werenât socialized this way and theyâre skittish around other people, donât really like going anywhere other than âhome,â and would rather die than be on a leash. They fight going into their carriers (Holly sleeps in hers like itâs a bed), and going to the vet is a terrifying experience for them (I only take them places that I absolutely HAVE to).Â
Socialize your cats! Itâs not as common as socializing dogs, but itâs really important to do, your cats will be way more confident and adaptable.

reading letters from 1818 is wild
âitâs that time of the year when I get colds for no apparent reason againâ have some Clairitin hon
But also weâre not becoming allergic to everything nowadays like certain white moms fear. Allergies have always existed. They were just talked about differently
Like âoh clams always ~turn my stomach~â. Or âwhat a pity he was taken from us at age 5â
âWell we didnât have all this fancy chronic illness stuff in the Olden Days, what did people do then??â
They died, Ashleigh.Â
This is a picture tracking bullet holes on Allied planes that encountered Nazi anti-aircraft fire in WW2.
At first, the military wanted to reinforce those areas, because obviously thatâs where the ground crews observed the most damage on returning planes. Until Hungarian-born Jewish mathematician Abraham Wald pointed out that this was the damage on the planes that made it home, and the Allies should armor the areas where there are no dots at all, because those are the places where the planes wonât survive when hit. This phenomenon is called survivorship bias, a logic error where you focus on things that survived when you should really be looking at things that didnât.
We have higher rates of mental illness now? Maybe thatâs because weâve stopped killing people for being âpossessedâ or âwitches.â Higher rate of allergies? Anaphylaxis kills, and does so really fast if you donât know whatâs happening. Higher claims of rape? Maybe victims are less afraid of coming forward. These problems were all happening before, but now weâve reinforced the medical and social structures needed to help these people survive. And we still have a long way to go.
This is one of my favorite anecdotes to show how clever rewording of statistics can make them say the opposite of what they mean:
Every time a state makes riding a motorcycle without a helmet illegal, the number of ER patients seriously injured in motorcycle accidents skyrockets. Every single time.
When you phrase it just right, it makes it sound like itâs more dangerous to ride a motorcycle with a helmet than without one. Of course, the reality is that before those laws, those patients were going to the morgue, not the ER.
