• Kaveh and Alhaitham arguing with each other all over the city’s message boards!

its very apparent in the trailer that ayato has a lot on his plate and on his mind. he works so much for so many reasons. like- hes thinking about all the people who can have homes to return to, he thinks about being able to live, he thinks about all that is depending on him to do his job.

but wait! didnt we think ayato was a class-clown type character?

heres my headcanon: ayato didnt let himself be childish because he thought it was unbecoming of someone meant to be the head yashiro commissioner. (we know that his mother died early and he and ayaka were forced to grow up early so this makes sense). he also doesnt get to be cheeky very often because everyone else expects him to be mature aswell. thats why his character trailer is so elegant and mature feeling.

thoma (and probably itto) is the exception to that. the one who sees both sides of ayato and thinks, "both sides of you are still you after all."

thats why ayato can chase around and feed thoma strange dishes. its why he can fight onikabuto in the street with itto. its not so much that he *has* to put on a mask around everyone else, its that around thoma, he doesnt *want* to put on the mask. thoma doesnt *want* him to be some super responsible commissioner. thoma takes him to the teahouse and plays with the dog and serves him tea and talks about silly stuff like birthdays with his sister. thoma plays hotpot games with him. thoma lets him be a fool for all the foolish he is.

kaveh confused as to why alhaitham isn’t sad or disappointed or angry about the sages. alhaitham stating that things change or some other logical bs. kaveh getting annoyed but still offering a listening ear if he needs it or wants it. a week passes by and when both of them wake up around the same time, kaveh needs coffee/caffeine to finishing loading his brain lol.

alhaitham: i supposed i’m … disappointed… or just ….

kaveh, before drinking his coffee, blinks by stays quiet and nods. alhaitham doesn’t say anything after and for the rest of the day, they’re back to their usual self. but kaveh can tell that alhaitham looks a bit less stressed. it’s late at night and alhaitham’s in the kitchen finishing his water when kaveh walks in:

kaveh: you got everything off your chest?

alhaitham: i have no idea what that means

kaveh rolls his eyes, waving his hand and saying goodnight — annoyed that alhaitham isn’t listening to his human self. but he misses the way alhaitham relaxes more against the counter, how his face twitches for a bit, how he almost smiled.
