Now, I'm drawing a direct parallel here to the story also in this news right now of an incident that happened four months ago where Afro-latino army lieutenant Caron Nazario was pulled over for having no plates (he had temporary plates) and the police demanded he get out of the vehicle (and it's not clear if they even told him what they were pulling him over for) and he said that he was honestly afraid to do so and if you've seen that footage, you can hear the terror in his voice, they'd already held him at gunpoint and pepper sprayed him by that point, after all.

Daunte got out of the vehicle and was immediately shot. He's now dead.

You cannot comply enough to save your life. You can't fight back. You can't call the cops on the cops. You can't ask bystanders to risk their lives and intervene. Body cams aren't enough. Nothing is enough to save us from these monsters.

If I could be a different person, I would. Not because I want it, but because they do. But here’s the thing. One day, I just showed up without a map or a compass, and at some point, you have to make a choice … about who you are and what you want. And therein lies the catch.
