I wanted to let you know that I reached out to district Rep Jason Powell and he has seen the petition and asked that we have a meeting next week in Nashville to discuss moving forward with concealing and or removing the statue. @taylorswift I want to invite you to this meeting. You are my role model, inspiration, and I would love to have the opportunity to meet you for the first time and make a plan with our local government to make Nashville a better, safer place to live.

okay but the scene where “the man” was on the tube with his legs spread out and his arms around the women next to him and smoking and obnoxiously doing whatever he wanted while all the women around him were silent but looking extremely uncomfortable………. wow that scene really got to me because i feel like it’s something women have to deal with on an everyday basis: men doing whatever they want while women around them have to remain uncomfortable in silence

I know people have probably already said this, but I love that she also included a black man being smushed and uncomfortable as the white man takes up all the space on the subway. Women and minorities are constantly just expected to make space to accommodate rich white men. It’s a misconception that sexism, and toxic male privilege benefit all men in the same way, in reality it’s white cis het men who benefit most from the status quo not changing. Like women, men of color are often not welcomed or supported in spaces dominated by mostly white men. And I just feel like many well intended feminist statements miss that.
