TLDR: I loved it despite the messes, LTJ > TFA. I’m excited for episode IX and where the characters will go from the end of the movie.

If Any Of Y’all Got A Problem With Leia Using the Force Block Me Right Now Because I Was That Bitter Child Who Was Upset We Never Got To See The Token Girl Use The Space Magic

Yeah the scene looked silly but in theory, its really REALLY dang on cool that we got to see Leia finally use the force to rescue herself. Like pretty much everyone else, I thought they were going to kill Leia in that scene even though it would’ve been such an anti-climatic death in my opinion, but I’m kinda glad that Carrie Fisher’s passing didn’t affect the script? Yeah What The Heck Are They Gonna Do Now With Leia but seeing Luke and Leia reunite for one last time was something I was begging for in this movie and that scene when they do (albeit it’s Holo Luke) was really powerful for me. The joke-y one liner was...out of tone but I forgive it since I’m so used to the Disney’s Marvel Movie Formula. Fisher’s final performance was so moving and something I needed to see unhinged and I’m glad we got to see General Leia in full affect as the Badass Action Old Lady. Also I need a gif of Leia slapping Poe.

As much as I hate to say but....yeah Finn and Rose were the weakest part of the movie. The casino scene should’ve been shorter since we really didn’t need that 2 hour and 30 minute run time, Transformers movies are that ridiculously long, don’t be like them Star Wars. I say...have Finn and Poe arrive there -> somehow cause a ruckus -> get unfairly thrown in prison -> meet the hacker dude -> escape, meet the kids, free the horse-like aliens, have Rose drop her backstory expedition here -> (cut to Rey & Luke) -> have the whole there’s no true “good or bad people” discussion -> they leave to return to the Resistance maybe? I’m no film student by any means, but the excessive cutting back and forth between This is a Metaphor for capitalism planet and Luke & Rey reallly took me out of the film a bit alongside the casino planet getting too much screen time for something that only adjacently affects the main plot.

Finn’s character arc just sucks :(. He’s not really doing anything outside of the whole “insecure and scared boy to more confident fighter” shtick that was already done in TFA. When the fake out death with Finn charging straight into the charging canon scene happens I was dreading that Finn was actually going to die the whole time because I felt as if Johnson didn’t know what to do with the character and decided he should die a hero’s death despite Finn not really getting to learn from failure and how idols aren’t the legends we think we are, the movie’s main themes. “Oh god they’re really going to kill off the one black main character in Star Wars despite him not doing much in the movie....oh shit ok he’s alive.” Rose kissing Finn got a “eh” reaction out of me because it didn’t feel...earned? I’m always done for Black/Asian interracial couples, and I think Finn/Rose would’ve been cute as a fandom pair but as something address as “canon” they relationship seems way too one-sidey on Rose’s side, I think it would’ve worked best if Rose admitted to having a crush on Finn because like Boyega said, Finn really doesn’t need a love interest he’s trying to figure out his place in the grand scheme of things. Finn probably doesn’t need a relationship on his already full mental plate. I feel as if Finn contributed more in TFA than in TLJ despite people saying “You can easily erase Finn from TFA!” which I never brought for a second.

Rey’s parents being nobodies is GOOD. If she was Obi Wan’s daughter of Han/Leia’s secret other child or Luke’s long lost daughter or cousin or whatever I would’ve fucking screamed because then the “Rey is a Mary-Sue” types for sure would’ve been stroking their dicks about “HAHA We were right, Rey is too perfect she’s ruining Star Wars.” Also my dudes if Star Wars is about the whole galaxy maybe somebody who’s last name isn’t “Skywalker” or “Kinobi” can be the hero? Like juuust maybe not everyone being Luke’s relative is a good thing because can you imagine how awkward that Skywalker family reunion would be. Snookie being nobody too is Good because I never find him compelling and not every character needs to be important or even have a backstory. Did #1 Dancer with a juicy booty Palpatine need a backstory to be convinced he was as a good villain in the original trilogy? Did Han Solo really need a backstory? Why the fuck are they still making that stupid Han Solo Solo: More Solo for your Dollo movie?

Luke’s character was great, Hamill was having fun with bitter old man Luke, and delivered when Luke had to confront Rey and Ben (Guys Really Driver’s Not That) Swolo. I love the twist with how Luke was thinking to kill his Nephew because it gives so much gravitas to why Kylo Ren is this Darth Vader wanna be and why he doesn’t just go home to Mama. His family rejected him, how is he to know they won’t reject him again? I mean I ain’t a Kylo Ren apologist because he still associates with Space Nazis and his actions are shitty but I actually want to see Ben turned back to the light side to end the war. If Rey can’t do it, I want Finn to convince him since My gOD Please Let Finn Do Something Important.

oh my lord why is this long ok speed round of things I liked (if something’s not mentioned here I probably didn’t like it):

- Opening fight was very cool, Poe having no respect for Hux is great because I too do not give a shit about nazis

- Poe sucked at the start of the movie and I’m glad he learned from his mistakes. A lot of people seem to hate him now but I don’t? Yeah what he did was shitty, no doubt, but he’s redeemable, have someone else slap him.

- Purple Hair Lady was fine, I didn’t like her character because Yeah we weren’t suppose to duh, her purpose to the story was great and the kamikaze scene was cool and unexpected and got a PogChamp face out of me

- Porgs Rule If You Hate Porgs I Will Block

- Luke’s death scene was so beautifully done and subdue as opposed to over the top Han Solo’s death scene was and I like how it made me hopeful as opposed to dreadful or forcefully sad. I want to buy this movie on Blu-Ray so I can look at the shot for an absurdly long amount of time

- I don’t hate Rose, she’s alright

- Holo Luke fight scene ruled

- I love how Kylo Ren sucks and he’s a winny brat, best villian

- Ben and Rey teaming up was really cool! Snookie’s death was the twist needed piss on how “safe” TFA was

- BB-8 is very cute and I want 10 toys of him

- Yoda’s apperance got a giggle out of me because it’s puppet Yoda and not CGI Yoda and I also liked how comical he was all well

- Episode IX excites me just because I realllly want to see where do all the characters at the end of movie go on from here after losing Luke, even tho tbf he get get a Force Ghost scene in IX.

- The crystal foxes needed more screen time for me to buy merch of them, just saying
