Gökhan Sürer studied jazz-piano and composition at Istanbul Bilgi University and attended lectures of remarkable musicians such as Aydın Esen, Ali Perret, Lawrence ‘Butch’
Morris mand Ricky Ford.
After his undergraduate study, he went to New York City and continued his music composition studies with Pablo Mayor at Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory.
Back in Istanbul he has performed on numerous albums, soundtracks and compilations as a performer, producer and arranger.
By 2013 he moved to Barcelona and formed his own project ‘Gökhan Sürer Quintet’ which intends to play modern arrangements of songs from different cultures of Anatolia as
Turkish, Byzantine and Armenian with a touch of various musical styles like jazz, funk and rock. He released his debut album ‘Chimera’ in 2015 with the his quintet.
After playing many concerts at many festivals at Spain and other countries he set his final project as a trio. In 2026 he recorded his second album ‘Celestial’ which consists of his
original compositions with bass player Sergio Di Finizio from Italy and drummer Octavio Salman from El Salvador at Barcelona.
He still leads his musical life at between Barcelona and İstanbul with various projects aim to provide a new perception of oriental jazz.
