AWCI recently published the results of a study by Autodesk Inc. in partnership with FMI Corporation which showed that construction companies with high levels of trust achieved better organizational and financial performance. The study was conducted on more than 2,500 industry professionals from across the world with each asked to rate the level of trust within their organization using a scale that went from “very low” to “very high.” These rankings were then evaluated together with the respondents’ financial and organizational reports. Study results showed that the majority of very high trust companies (57 percent) worked with return clients for over 80 percent of their projects while only 42 percent of those with above-average trust levels did. This translated to higher gross margins by the former of 2 to 7 percent. In addition, 56 percent of workers from very high trust construction companies stayed at their companies voluntarily as opposed to only 32 percent of workers from above-average trust companies. This translates into savings of about $750,000 by the former because they do not have to constantly recruit and train new employees. Furthermore, very high trust organizations reported good performance in areas such as timely project delivery and employee collaborations.

In the wake of its founder Arthur Godsell, Godsell Construction has operated under the leadership of the Godsell family for approximately half a century. Godsell Construction has a long history of philanthropic involvement with nonprofits that include Andrew's Army. A charitable organization dedicated to finding a cure for neuroblastoma (cancer of sympathetic nerve tissue), Andrew's Army takes its name from neuroblastoma victim Andrew Accardi. To raise awareness for Andrew's Army and its cause, Mr. Accardi’s good friend Sam Bender released an informative and touching short documentary film in October of 2019. Simply titled “Andrew’s Army,” this documentary tells Mr. Accardi’s life story with a focus on his brave fight against neuroblastoma and his dedication to living life to the fullest. Although inspirational, the film doesn’t shy away from the tragic realities of neuroblastoma and the suffering that it causes.
