Thinking about the riders training together,,,i wish they showed more sparring scenes, especially after the hunters became a threat i fully believe hiccup ran them like the navy
In one episode they switch dragons to become familiar with each other, I'd like to think that became a weekly event on the edge with each rider rotating with each dragon
Toothless doesn't have favourites (of course aside from hiccup), he'd treat each of the riders equally when theyre on him but I can see him roughhousing with snotlout and snickering after throwing him off
Hookfang is a gentleman who treats the girls quite nicely but not so much with the boys (except hiccup who has privilege for yk saving and rescuing him), he never treats them like he does snot though (snot's his equal but he is aware of how fragile most humans are)
Barf and Belch during the exercise are usually ridden with one of the twins since they don't exactly listen to anyone else, they once tried with just astrid and snotlout which ended in the heads tangled and both riders on the ground
Meatlug is a sweetheart she is so careful with everyone who rides her, and besides fishlegs I feel like her favourite would probably be tuff (bro has a gentle soul and he always sneaks he treats)
After that one episode, Stormfly still likes to fly with snotlout but she's also a girl's girl and loves to fly with both Heather and Ruffnut
Windshear will put up with the exercise but not for very long, she'll tolerate the other riders for at most an hour but even that's pushing it
Aside from the dragon switch, I imagine hiccup has the riders on a daily routine, maybe early laps around the island followed by sparring where he forces them to learn other weapons aside from the one theyre most comfortable in (this backfires on him since he only really knows how to use inferno and his shield, he is shockingly bad with a non-flaming sword)
Ruffnut is most proficient with a spear but is forced to train her bow skills after failing to hit macey, her aim does improve but she learns how to throw knives and becomes really good at that
Tuffnut is more than happy to learn any weapon if that makes him more destructive but he'll always prefer knocking people down with a mace
Fishlegs tried to argue that he's a healer not a fighter but in the end they forced him to practice offensive skills, not just defensive ones (he ends up being very good at wrestling but also the bow since he doesn't have to feel someone getting hurt by his weapon)
Both astrid and snotlout are at their greatest with an axe, but they're also good with all weapon types, the only difference between them is that astrid is more agile while snot is more tanky and could take more blows
Hiccup, like fishlegs, prefers to fight defensively and is pretty agile to avoid most attacks, but every time he spars with astrid she forces him to go on the offense, and sparring with either of the twins means learning how to fight dirty
Speaking of, fighting either ruff or tuff means learning to quickly adapt, neither fights cleanly and will use any and all methods to win, hiccup's nurple has been purpled by tuff a few too many times, and ruff definitely bites if she has the chance
Fishlegs learns from Heather how to use pressure points to disarm people which he prefers over outright fighting
