Description: Wisteria is a purple flower that is a part of the legume family. These plants are climbing plants, and twine their limbs around any given support. They are beautiful plants, and are often used for ornamental purposes, however they are known to take over other plants quite rapidly, so be careful! It is known to choke other plants, and grows at a very fast rate, so best not plant it next to other plants. The blooms only last for about 2-3 weeks, so make sure to jump on the opportunity to use them for spellwork. These flowers are edible, but the seeds and stems are poisonous, so exercise caution when using them for magickal workings. This plant cannot be made into an Essential Oil, so all wisteria oils are either a Synthetic Oil or an Herbal Oil.
Location: This plant is native to China, Korea, Japan, and the Eastern United States. These plants are very sturdy and grow very quickly, even in poor soil. It thrives in full sunlight. These plants can take decades to bloom if started from seeds, so most people buy them from root cuttings.

Magickal Uses: Wisteria is used for protection, psychic development, wisdom, meditation, love, prosperity, healing from grief, contacting other planes of consciousness and existence, to bring illumination, communication, prosperity, increases vibrations, long-life, immortality, grace, bliss, honor, memory, patience, endurance, exploration, creative expansion, releasing burdens, the duality of love, victory over hardship, and femininity.
Medicinal Uses: In Chinese lore, wisteria is traditionally used to treat intestinal worms. In Japanese culture, wisteria is used in a formulation named āWTTCā, which stands for wisteria, trapa, Terminalia, coix. WTTC is used to treat gastrointestinal cancers, and was developed around 60 years ago. The seeds of the wisteria plants are in the diuretic family, and are known to treat heart ailments.
Folklore: Wisteria likes to grow on doorways, so was often seen as a portal to different worlds. Gypsies often washed their hands in wisteria blooms before giving a reading because they were said to make a more successful reading. It is said in China, emperors brought small wisteria plants to give as a sign of peace and friendship. In one Italian folk story about wisteria, it is said that a girl named Glicine was very sad because she felt ugly compared to the other girls in her village. One day, she cried so much that her tears generated the wonderful plant Wisteria. Delighted by her creation, Glicine stopped crying and rejoiced for the beautiful flower that she had made. In Japanese Kabuki theatre, the Wisteria Maiden is a common character. In one story, the lovely Wisteria Maiden depicted in a painting becomes smitten with a young man who often visits her painting. In an effort to win his heart, she steps out of the portrait to introduce herself. Unfortunately her affections are not returned, and she once again steps into the painting.
