girl in the rift
“You’re a demon?” Kat backed up a step, but didn’t run. He didn’t do anything that made her believe he would hurt her, and he didn’t seem like the demons she’s seen on this side. He looked like he had morals, goals–.. he seemed human. She was caught off guard, but not scared of him–.. yet. “And a demon hunter? I’ve been here a lot, I’ve never seen one before. But I guess I can believe that they exist.” She’s seen so much in limbo, so many unbelievable things that to deny something like demon hunter would be hypocritical.
Kat bit the inside of her cheek. There were demons that could get into the human world? And people like Nero stop them? The thought of what could happen if they were to escape–.. Kat wasn’t sure what would happen, but she didn’t want to find out. “Well, I guess I should thank you for keeping us safe, then.” It was more meant to make things a bit lighter, but it was also a genuine thanks.
“I don’t exactly..” she searched for a way to explain it. “My foster dad, he–.. he’s not the nicest person. It feels like more of a Hell in the real world than it is here to me. I just–.. I need to get away sometimes.”
Inside his mouth had the hint of blood, the fighting from the day showing in his tattered clothing. He could feel bruises forming along his ribs, but he’d heal up fine with a bit of rest. Just watching over the frail women he tried to ponder why she’d put herself in limbo, what was bad enough out there to make her want to use this as an escape? However as she began to speak he felt a pain boil up in his lower stomach.
not the nicest person.
He felt his anger rise a bit. Turning his gaze to the side he gritted his teeth. There’s already so much evil in the world for humans to just cause more. “I never knew my parents either.” Rubbing behind his neck he glanced back to the woman. “I was in a foster home but with this arm, no body wanted me.” Letting his arms drop to his side he shifted the mood a bit not wanting to show vulnerability,” Why not leave?”
She seems grown enough- why stay in a place that toxic. Shifting a bit his gaze fell to his weathered boots. There was a slight tinge of dirt across the tops of them. The leather seeming to almost fray in spots from the rough wear. “I could offer you a safe haven.” You don’t know me, true. But if where you are is worse than limbo, what the hell do you have to lose. He could tell she was put off by the idea. “ I know- it sounds crazy. But.. I could offer you protection.”
He made plenty of money working jobs for high paying clients. Assassination and high ranking demon killer. He had plenty of room where he stayed. You just met this girl. Are you crazy? His mind was spinning. For all you know she could have been sent here to kill you..but, something about that weakened gaze. I can’t help it. I have a natural drive to want to protect people. If anyone needed help, it’d be her.
“If it’s true you come here to limbo often.. you can think over my offer and I will meet you here again to see if you want to or not. I just want to help you..” If I can help people, I will. I’ll do everything in my power to protect those in need.
