the way jace herondale literally was abused for the first 10 years of his life, was taught that âto love is to destroyâ when his father killed his pet right in front of him, saw his father âget murderedâ at 10 years old, found out his father wasnât who he thought he was, got accused of being a spy by his adoptive parents, thought he was experimented on with demon blood, had his adoptive little brother die, was told two more times he wasnt who he thought he was, died, came back to life, was haunted for months by nightmares of himself killing the love of his life, didnât eat or sleep at all because of the nightmares, worried so much he was becoming like his âfatherâ who had abused him, was possessed, was âin love with the idea of dyingâ, had his personality magically changed, CRIED when he momentarily burst free of the magic, tried to turn himself in even though he knew none of what happened was his fault and heâd be killed for it anyway, was put back under the magic, was stabbed with a blade full of heavenly fire by the girl he loves, it hurt so much that it made him âscream sometimes with the painâ and almost died again, repeatedly almost died because the heavenly fire was too much for his body to handle, was known as âthe broken oneâ, tried to give himself over so that everyone else was left alone, literally went to a demon realm, almost burned to death there and âwasnât afraidâ to, had a âdeath wish the size of brooklynâ, saved the world AGAIN
and despite all of this he still manages to laugh and smile and be the caring boy that he is. this is what valentine said about him âyou were too gentle. too empathetic. you felt othersâ pain as if it were your ownâ and clary said âthis scarred, sarcastic boy was gentle with the things he lovedâ and people have the audacity to dislike himâhate him, even. thatâs just crazy. he went through all of that and he was still an amazing person and a hero. yall are just unbelievable
plus people like will herondale but not jace as if they donât act exactly the same and have basically the same personality. before anyone says that will had a reason to act the way he did, i just listed all of the reasons jace had as well.
