In My Bones [Alex & Shane]
The large shoulders shrugged up in an empty gesture. It wasnât that he didnât care to answer or that he was being aloof; he really didnât remember how long heâd been here, on his own, trying to survive. âBeen on the road a lot⌠Donâ rightly râmember.â He gestures around. âHow long you been out here? Donât tell me you râmemberâŚ?â
It had been a long time since heâd talked to another human being, hearing his voice out loud. It was somewhat surprising to him that the man knew and remembered how. Silence, was indeed, a personâs best weapon out here. âQuite a few months, ahâreckon, if ahâhad tâguess⌠Itâs gonna be gettinâ cold soon. Was still warm ânough fer t-shirts anâ sandals when ahâleftâŚâ He could see everyoneâs faces now, when he left. Rickâs look of confusion and almost betrayal, never to realize â unless Lori told him â how it had been between himself and Lori, and how it had all fallen apart when heâd ended up alive. Heâd wanted to change it, to make it all okay again; but he couldnât. He couldnât find his way clear to making up for it, for everything. Every time he triedâŚheâd just made it worse. Heâd seen the looks of Lori and Dale and even Andrea, knowing only what they knew or what they thought they knew. How happy the first two had been! Andrea hurt, a bruised ego from being left behind with the people who couldnât stand her anymore either. And the kids, and Carol and Glenn, who didnât know why and never would. They had wanted him to stay, to help, he was sure. But if he was going to stay sane in an insane world, he couldnât. He wouldnât.
As they got closer to the place heâd been holed up in, Shane sighed and shook his head. Those memories, those faces, stayed with him. âYa asked âbout RickâŚbâforeâŚâ He started, offering up more in a rare moment of vulnerability for him. âHe got shot, not long bâfore this happened. Ahâwent tâthe hospital anâ the power was already long gone, anâ ahâdidnâ hear a heartbeat. Ahâthought he was deadâŚâ The memory clearly brought emotion to the surface and he choked on his words. âAhâstarted fuckinâ âround with Lori after ahâgot âem out oâ town⌠He was dead, right? Anâ ahâwas takinâ care of âem now⌠It jusâ happened!â He looked away and then snuck a look at her, at her eyes, as she came along beside him. âSuffice tâsay, when Rick showed up âlive it shocked all oâ us. But LoriâŚwent back tâlike nothinâ ever happened anâ we didnâ do all the shit we did. Came aâme one day, sayinâ ahâneeded tâleave her son âlone⌠Cuttinâ off all contact. Like ahâwas some bad guy! Sâah had tâleave⌠âEr it was cominâ down tâme âer RickâŚanâ ahâcouldnâ do that. Not tâmy brotherâŚâ
Alex hadn't been expecting him to spill his guts about Rick. She had met them all when she'd been in Georgia a few years back. Carl hadn't been very old, and Lori seemed nice enough. She'd heard all the stories about Rick and Shane's friendship and then their partnership. She knew they had been as close as brothers. She knew what that kind of relationship meant to a cop. She'd had them herself. Bobby had been her everything for as long as she could remember. Suddenly navigating the world without him had felt disorienting and wrong, but she'd struggled through it.
"So they're still alive out there somewhere?" she asked softly, not wanting to upset him any further than the topic in and of itself already had. She swallowed back the lump that formed in her throat. She reached out, giving his arm a slight squeeze.
"Maybe you're better off out here...like this," she offered quickly, not wanting to seem as if she didn't care about his troubles. She very much did, but she didn't want him to have any regrets for helping her and for saving himself further heartache.
peritxetxinvenitâ:
When she asked him to check the traffic reports he didnât ask why, he just pulled out his phone, opened the right app and held the screen before her, so she could see it and drive. Eames had been kidnapped, sheâs been held in the room under the ground blindfolded. There was nothing to wonder about, he could just do what she asked him and help her to go through this. When she chose the way, he hid the phone back in his pocket and focused on the other train of thought.
His fingers slowly tapped against the leather surface of his folder. He started catching himself on this bad habit not long after Wally Stevensâ case. Things like this were contagious, especially between people like them. One, two, three, four, fiveâŚÂ âYouâre right, he doesnât fall into the profile. What do we have? Father, daughter, fatherâs friend. What about the daughterâs boyfriend? âŚâ That was most likely a dead end, but who could know for sure? Sometimes people spend decades together and know nothing about each otherâs secrets. âMethodicalness, thatâs what bothering me,â he pinched his lips looking at his partnerâs profile, âIf this murder happened thirty or forty years ago I would say, someone wanted to leave a message. But for whom?â
Alex appreciated him not asking any questions about the tunnel. Seeing that there wasn't a delay in or around the tunnel (and knowing it could change on a whim), she chose to go through the tunnel anyway. It would eliminate any detours that the alternative routes might throw at them. And while she didn't care how long they were out of the office, she wanted to focus on the case in front of them.
"The boyfriend's shock seemed legit. I can't see him putting her in danger just to prove whatever point that's being made." She shook her head, putting her final input on the boyfriend. "Could it have been a jealous lover from the father's past? They had a pretty sweet life. Seemed almost like a fairytale from the reports I read of those being interviewed." She only wished she'd been there to hear the interviews firsthand. There were things that transcripts and notes didn't give insight into.
"Women hold grudges," she pointed out quietly.Â
peritxetxinvenitâ:
âYeahâŚâ he nodded again smiling. There was more to her words for him than just a kind bantering. Alex has always been having his back. Even when nobody else believed in him, even when nobody else believed in his sanity, even when she had doubts. He thought that this could be what finally brought them so close together. Trust. They never ever lost it, they only solidified it. Everybody lied, people kept secrets from each other, and of course, they also werenât two open books, but they would never break each otherâs trust.
When she nestled on the couch and leaned against him, Bobby reached behind himself, pulled the blanket from the backrest and covered her legs and his own lap. âSure,â he took the remote from the table and pressed play before putting it back and relaxing beside her once again. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, sighed almost soundlessly and pressed a light kiss to her head.
He was looking at the screen but his thoughts were far from Gotham City and closer to New York. No, it wasnât late, everything happened exactly when it needed to happen, good and bad. And there was no use in guessing what would be if something had happened earlier or hadnât happened at all. This moment was a result of many other things and many other choices, and he wouldnât change a second of his life because it brought him here.
Alex's body relaxed against him, letting him cover her lap with the blanket that had been resting on the back of her couch. She smiled when he slipped the blanket over his lap as well. She snuggled in closer to his side as his arm went around her shoulder. She glanced up at him as she rested her head against the crook of his shoulder and turned her focus to the screen as the credits started to roll.
She could feel him as he started to relax against her. She hadn't had any fear that this would be hard for them. They'd spent more than a decade as partners, and the trust that they forged had been forged in fire. It was as solid as steel, and she wasn't afraid of anyone find a chink in their armor. Partners in work and partners in life was the only thing that made sense to her anymore.
"I'm so glad you came home..." she finally whispered as the movie began to lull her into a sense of peace and serenity. "That you came home to me, Bobby." She lifted her head, meeting his eyes for a moment before giving him a soft smile before turning her attention to the movie once again.
"Is that my shirt?"
Send âIs that my shirt?â for your muse finding mine in your museâs shirt
âIs that my shirt?â Bobby asked, leaning on one elbow, as the sheets of her bed clung to his hips to keep him covered.
Alex looked down at the too-big shirt as it covered her small frame. She gave a soft chuckle as she shrugged her shoulder playfully. âMaybe it is. Why? Donât you think it looks good on me?â She turned around in a circle, allowing him to see all of her before she moved back to crawl under the blankets with him.
He pulled her close to him, tickling her sides as he kissed her mouth gently. As she squirmed to get away from him, he wrapped a leg over her waist to keep her in place. âWell, honestly? It looks the best when itâs crumpled up in a heap on the floor.â He stopped tickling her and leaned down, kissing her again. Only this time, it was a soft, deep, passionate kiss that involved parting lips and tangling tongues.
âI agree,â she said breathlessly as she removed the shirt and returned it to its previous place crumpled up in a heap on the floor beside her bed.

Those Who Wait [Eames & Goren]
peritxetxinvenitâ:Â Â
For a while, all he was able to do was watching her and listening to her voice. Alex moved to settle herself between his legs, then her face was right in front of his own, and her hands were on his lap. He felt like he was in love with her forever or at least since day one, but that wasnât true. At first, they were just partners. Bobby remembered the trial when he learned that Eames had been very close to changing the partner, his⌠unconventionality almost scared her away. But she withdrew the letter, and maybe that was the first brick in the wall of their friendship, and that friendship grew closer and closer. They came through a lot, and a big part of it was his fault, but she didnât leave. And there they were, closer than they have ever been before.
Her lips touched his, she knew what he was doing. Damn, he thought, he was waiting for this and she was actually preparing herself. Before he said yes to her question (and that was with no doubt a yes) Alex kissed him one more time and he felt the tip of her tongue on his bottom lip. That was the moment when he unfroze. He leaned forward, his hands rested on her shoulders and his mouth covered hers properly in a kiss he dreamed to share with her who knows how long. Nothing mattered except this kiss but in the back of his mind he heard his own voice questioning, âIs it too late?⌠A man of my ageâŚâ When their lips finally parted he met her eyes and nodded, âA date.âÂ
Alex felt her heart hammering harder against her ribcage. It hammered so hard that she was afraid that her ribs would crack from the force and tempo alone. She whimpered softly as he deepened the kiss and kept her close. Her eyes fluttered open, needing to see him as he kissed her. It was all overwhelming, causing her to close them shut tightly again.
It was then that the kiss ended. He slowly pulled his mouth from hers, but her body remained where it was between his legs, pressed against his chest, hoping for another kiss. As he confirmed that it would indeed be a date, a soft smile graced her lips. She leaned forward, rubbing her nose against his. "Always knew you were a smart man."
She winked at him as she got to her feet, forgetting all about the pizza and beer and settled herself beside him on the couch. She snuggled into his side, sighing softly. Now that the ice had been broken, she knew there would be more kisses. Right now, she wanted to experience being close to him with no boundaries, and unwritten department rules, to stop them.
"Should we watch the movie now?" she offered softly, turning her head up to look at him. Her amber-colored eyes sparkled in the dim light of her living room.

I really like the dynamic of these characters. I simply want them to be there for each other and grow old together.

Those Who Wait [Eames & Goren]
peritxetxinvenitâ:
Bobby loved to watch her, and it doesnât really matter what she was doing, eating, thinking, investigating, interviewing a suspect or falling asleep in the surveillance vehicle. He just loved to look at her, he noticed this long before he noticed and acknowledged his own developing feelings. Alexandra Eames was a beautiful woman, with that beauty that shines from the inside and sips through the mimic, gestures, speech patterns and choices. And because of this, she was one of the most beautiful people he knew, if not the most beautiful.
âObviously,â he smiled nodding. Not that he never actually tasted Grappa in his life but that one, from the motherland of the unfortunate murderer, slipped away from him forever. He didnât even remember the exact name of the label, only the smell. After finishing with his second slice he wiped his mouth and reached for the bottle to take a big fresh gulp. When he was setting the bottle back on the table, Alexâs hand rested on his knee.
His cheekbones felt hotter than they were a moment ago but it probably was just a beer. âSurely I can,â he answered, âJust pick up the day.â His stare followed the crust and returned to her face again, âDisappoint me?â His brows moved up with the genuine surprise and he shook his head, âHave this ever happened? I canât remember. But thank you for a⌠compliment?â Bobby grinned and laughed softly, then covered her hand with his. It was soft and warm and hid under his palm completely. âAdorable?â tips of his fingers rubbed gently against her skin, âI like that.â
Alex's breath caught in her throat when his hand covered hers. She ached to turn her hand just a little and link their fingers together, but all the thought left her head completely as his fingertips started to move against her skin. She felt the goosebumps as they started to erupt on her arm. She felt the slight shiver as it skated along her spine. She shifted onto her knees between his legs. Her hand was still on his knee, not wanting his touch to stop. She met his eyes as she lifted herself up so that she is looking into his eyes.
"There are more times that you're adorable, too, you know?" Her hands moved up his thighs, digging her nails into the fabrics of his pants just a little. Her heart hammered in her chest. "Like right now," she teased. "You're absolutely adorable."
Her head tilted slightly as she leaned in, pressing her chest against his as she brought her mouth to his in a soft but confident kiss to his lips. "This reservation that you're going to get? It'd be a date, right?" She kissed him again before he could register her question enough to answer her. Her tongue slipped playfully along his bottom lip, wanting to deepen the kiss if that's what he wanted. Â
To How It Used to Be || Alex & Bobby
peritxetxinvenitâ:
He knew it wasnât exactly true but didnât say anything else, just nodded. If there was something actually wrong she would tell him, right? Eames needed to prove, and first of all to herself, that she could function after what had happened to her and she didnât need anyone, especially him, to babysit her. Bobby understood that, he understood her, he wished he could understand himself as clear.
âOkay,â he assured almost soundlessly and walked outside letting her sign out the car without him looking over her shoulder. He paced a bit back and forth along the bottom step of the stairs that led to the grand entrance of 1PP waiting for her to drive out, climbed into the SUV and buckled up. âItâs fine, Eames,â he said, âAnd Iâm not going to pester you anymore. Just know that Iâm here for talking or not talking.â
He let the silence fill the car and just looked at the streets before them, then glanced down at the folder that lied on his lap. âSo what do you think? Can he be our guy? I mean, yeah, heâs an ex con and must hold a lot of anger, but something doesnât click for me. This murder is not just out of anger, itâs⌠it must be very personal or the absolute opposite of personal. Whoever did this enjoyed beating the victim to death. All this just over the lost share of the business?â Bobby left the question hanging in the air. Maybe everything was simple. Just for once it could be.
Alex concentrated on driving. She cracked the window to keep the car from feeling completely closed in. Subconsciously, she knew she needed to work on her fear of closed-in spaces, and she knew if she asked him that he'd help her. She was scared of seeming weak, even where Bobby was concerned. She held her breath for a long moment as the light turned yellow and she made it under it before it turned to red. Her lips were a thin straight line as she tried to keep her focus on the case at hand and not her personal baggage. She liked to check that at the door.
She glanced at him as she heard him start to speak. She was used to him spitballing ideas on their way to talk to potential suspects or witnesses. She would give him her input when it was necessary. She nodded in agreement. The murder was professionally done. Some ex-cons were smart, smarter than most gave them credit for, but the prior history on this guy didn't scream smart to her.
"He kept his nose clean in prison, kept to himself, and never got timeout for bad behavior. I can't see him harboring this much resentment with anyone to get out and screw up again." She gripped the wheel a bit tighter. "If he's not our guy, I still think he knows more than he initially told the officers on the scene."
She put on her blinker to get on the interstate. It would take them through the tunnel. She could only hope there was no delay while they were in the tunnel, and she considered taking an alternative route. "Can you check the traffic reports around the tunnel?" She didn't want to be caught inside it, not with the way the elevator already made her feel. It was oppressive on a good day before being kidnapped.Â
