So Pokemon Go is awesome, but there is something I’d like to say regarding instances where people are getting in trouble for where they bring the game. This is not a piece about being safe while playing the game, which is obviously just as important, but about us as players being respectful to our environment and other people, which I feel hasn’t been touched on quite as much as the safety aspect.
Gamers, we are used to playing in world spaces created for the purpose of the game being played, where almost anything is permissible within the scope of the game, and it doesn’t actually affect anyone else.
With Pokemon Go, that world space is the real world, not everyone is ‘in’ on the game, and some places that we wouldn’t think twice about entering in a game world are not appropriate places to be playing games. In the real world people will react and consequences will occur.
So please, with the knowledge that this game uses mechanics that we are still getting used to in a real world space that we all share, use discretion and common sense. Be considerate and respectful. If it would not be appropriate to be goofing off otherwise in a certain environment, either take the game somewhere else or shut it off for the time being. A Holocaust museum is not an appropriate place to play Pokemon Go. A cemetery where ceremonies are actively being held is not an appropriate place to play Pokemon Go. Being disrespectful to others is not worth catching a few extra Pokemon, or cashing in on a Pokestop.
Have fun, but not at the expense of others.
