I read the tags, and you know what I think? Alberu would fit this song even better than KRS. That is, the TBOAH timeline Alberu.

Although OG Cale never confirmed if TBOAH!Alberu kept his real identity a secret to the end, the fact that he never implied he revealed it makes me think he really did take the secret to his grave. So those final words of the song, about bowing and thanking the crowd for their patronage? Not really an OG Cale thing to do, but definitely something the Shining Sun of the Kingdom would do. I picture TBOAH!Alberu literally bowing to his soldiers and thanking them for their support moments before he willingly walks into his death with a smile, because he cannot turn back. Fully believing that if they knew the truth about him, their gratitude and faith and admiration would all turn into ash in an instant. And that image is just so... heartbreaking for me.

On the bright side, it means that thanks to Cale in the TCF timeline, Alberu got to shed that mask before it "became his new face", so that's good. The thing about masks in TCF is, they really DO become the identity sometimes. Like OG Cale, Alberu, KRS Cale, Billos, Ron, and so many others... the line between an act and true colors is so very thin at times. But that's not always a bad thing. It's just so interesting to think about, that's all.
