Brow furrowed in self-annoyance, she reached down to pick up one of the remaining how-to books which had been scattered around the apartment. They had all been testaments of her aim toward gaining more knowledge on bird Pokémon. However, in such a fleeting time span, Candice felt as though it wouldn’t be sufficient enough to aid in her care-taking of Siebold’s injured Swanna.
With a childish hmph, Candice pulled down one of her lower eyelids and stuck her tongue out at the cover image of a healthy looking Starly who merely gazed back with its perpetually happy expression. “Stop mocking Candice!” The gym leader exclaimed as she returned it to a nearby shelf, where it would most likely get picked up again sooner or later.
Immediately after he stepped off of the plane, he already anticipated a problem. It was cold. Now, Siebold was no expert on flying types such as Falkner or Winona, but he was fairly certain that they migrated to escape the frigid air.
Still, there was no other option now. The silly thing refused to even retreat into it’s Pokeball, and now, he held it in a carrier much like a sourpuss Purugly unwilling to follow his instruction. Such a troublesome thing, squawking half the time in the seat next to him. What would you know, it was afraid of flying in a craft it seemed.
[❅] - Over the cacophony of distress, Siebold is able to maintain his regal composure and offers a polite bow of head. Witnessing such gentlemanly behavior surrounds Candice with a light, airy feeling - as if she’s in a really good dream and this is her Prince Charming. However it is rather difficult to remain in Cloud 9 while an agitated bird screeches in the background.
Upon hearing Siebold’s courteous request to enter her apartment, Candice quickly nods and motions for them to come inside, understanding the need for a warm fire. She is unable to imagine how terrible Swanna must be feeling right now, especially in this cold weather.
“The house is nice and toasty for you two, so please, hurry on in!” She exclaims, bending over to scoop up Glaceon into her arms. The mischievous fox had been trying to playfully bat at Swanna’s carrier.
“Now, now, Sapphira! Be nice to our feathered friend!” Candice lectures with a stern look, though it soon becomes replaced with affection upon seeing Glaceon’s eyes twinkle back at her. Disciplining Pokémon isn’t really a strong suit for the gym leader. She’d much rather provide them with lots of love, instead.
Once Siebold enters with Swanna in tow, Candice makes sure to swiftly shut the door behind them in an effort to prevent any heat from escaping. She figures that Swanna will require as much of it as possible in order to feel more happier and healthier during its stay in Snowpoint.
“So... the living room is right this way! Follow Candice!” The girl announces, stopping for a brief moment to place Sapphira down before heading straight. As she’s walking, she looks over her shoulder and gives a nervous chuckle. “Heh heh, Candice really hopes that you like her apartment! It’s super clean huh?! That’s because I totally worked hard to make it spotless for you guys!”
Stopping once they’ve reached the living room, Candice gestures at the fireplace. Its flames are bright, radiating warmth. “You can go ahead and let out Swanna now! Candice is sure that it wants to warm up ASAP! Hehe!” As she waits for Siebold, she leans against the kitchenette counter and nervously thinks of what else she can do to be more hospitable.
"Can I get you anything? Coffee? Tea? Hot Chocolate? I’m s-sure that none of those would be as nice as what you’re used to back home, but... it’ll definitely hit the spot!”

The next day, Snowpoint Gazette has a rather… interesting headline to address.

Nothing like the previous article she was featured in, but it was certainly enough to garner strange looks from the residents around town. Candice was a quirky one, but what could she have possibly been up to? Some even jumped to the conclusion that they were body bags.
After reading the article (and wincing at the very unflattering image of her burying those aforementioned bags), she all but laughed. “I’m certainly becoming more famous, aren’t I?”
Not that she’s complaining. It’s rather fun to be noticed for things other than her job as a gym leader.
“Well, in all actuality, Candice was laying out bags of Poké treats for the local wildlife!” The food is non-perishable, so there’s never any worry about spoiling when she buries it for good fun. She likes to think that finding the bags will brighten up their day when they’re out looking for something to eat. Any Pokémon deserves a special treat from time to time!
Folding the newspaper and setting it back onto the coffee table, she shakes her head and adjusts her scarf while heading toward the front door. “Now, Candice has to convince everyone she’s not some type of ‘cold-blooded serial killer maniac’!”

As Candice makes her way toward the café exit, hot cocoa in tow, she passes by the table of an elderly woman who’s currently perusing through Snowpoint Gazette. Although she’s never been accustomed to reading the daily newspaper, today’s headline manages to jump out and immediately grab her attention.

“Excuse me ma’am! Candice needs to borrow this right away!” Grabbing the paper and nearly pressing her nose against the article, she feels a mixture of emotions bubble up from within. Being kissed by one of her “celebrity” crushes was sheer bliss. Someone even managed to snap a picture of it all, and as Candice inspects it with Deerling-wide eyes, her stomach is tickled by the fluttering of Butterfree.
“… so Candice wasn’t dreaming! Can you believe that?” Her head bobs up for a split second before lowering to re-read every single detail of the article once more. “I was kissed by Siebold! Isn’t he so dreeeamy?” She asks, flashing the picture at the woman who merely chuckles in response. A couple of moments pass before Candice folds the newspaper and smiles brightly at the woman.
"Thank you! Candice really needs to start reading the newspaper more often…” She muses to herself, then grabs a personal copy for herself before leaving for the gym. As the cool, wintry air nips at her exposed skin, Candice glances up at the falling snow and smiles once more.
Siebold had accounted for most everything for these next two weeks – The chef to take his stead at Le Yeah, the champion to take his place in the Elite 4, someone to water his garden, someone to collect his mail… but how could he forget, who would care for his injured Swanna?
True, he could ferry it to Hoenn with himself, but it would be a stressful trip for the injured and still rather traumatized thing. It seemed rather unwilling to leave the fountain in his miniscule yard, for the most part, despite being much too large for it.
Ideally, it would have been battle-fit a week ago but the stubborn thing seemed rather training-shy due to phantom pain in its still healing wing. Someone would need to watch them if he were to be flying the coop himself. So very indelicate.
On the Elite Four and Gym Leader network, he had put out a call for action. Certainly someone would be willing to sit for the house-sour little morsel.

Sighing, Candice glanced down at her wristwatch for what seemed to be the umpteenth time.
30 minutes left until his inevitable arrival -- was she prepared?
Physically? Yes.
Emotionally? No.
“I’ve read all that I can about bird Pokémon, and yet... why do I still feel totally clueless?!” With a melodramatic groan, she walked over and flopped down onto the living-room couch; hazel eyes clenching shut, body curling up into a tight ball. It seemed as though mere studying wouldn’t be enough to help her this time.
The unexpected phone call was received four days prior, and yet, the reality of it all had barely settled in that morning. It struck like a thief in the night, catching poor Candice off-guard after spending the previous days on cloud 9.
Turning over, she scowled up at the ceiling.
How could she even accept Siebold’s offer in the first place!
Had she been more mindful, Candice would have realized that Delibird was really the only flying-type that she was most familiar with, and even then, such knowledge could hardly account for anything. Those Pokémon were difficult to spot because of their nesting preferences; only to be seen by those who managed to venture up the steep mountains of Snowpoint, or around the holiday season where they could possibly be spotted around town.
The little voice who resided in the back of her mind kept whispering chastising words, scolding her for being such an impetuous girl (especially when around cute guys). But then Candice’s mind began to wander toward her phone call with the Kalosian chef/Elite, and she started remembering why she had accepted his request in the first place.
Hearing from Siebold, of all people, was quite the experience. Candice had always idolized him for his culinary talent and strength as a Pokémon trainer, so getting a call from the man left her overjoyed. Luckily, her fangirlish squealing upon hearing his voice was stifled by the poor quality of their phone connection. Due to unfortunate coincidence, Siebold had contacted her during the middle of a snowstorm which had been passing through the frigid city.
Although Candice had managed to hear most of the key details, there was still a fair possibility that she could have missed out on something important. But, as far as she knew, there was an ill Swanna, and he needed a caretaker for it while attending to business in the Hoenn region. Snowpoint was a little out of the way, but judging from the slight desperation in his tone, Candice came to the conclusion that nobody else was able to watch his Pokémon.
Nevertheless, she was ecstatic! Apart from his skill, Siebold was downright handsome. It would have been foolish of her to decline such a request in the first place; and boy, did it give her something to brag about to Maylene! Noticed by Siebold himself, definitely one of any girl’s dreams! Totally heart-eyes worthy!
A sharp knock on the door tore Candice away from her internalized musing. Eyeing her wristwatch, she came to realize that half an hour had passed in a complete jiffy. Glaceon was already growling and pawing at the front door by the time Candice made her way over.
“Chill, Saph!” Though, she was one to talk with a big knot in her stomach. But... there was no backing out now!
Unlocking the door and swinging it open, Candice was met with the sight of the Kalosian blonde and his rather unimpressed looking Swanna. “Hi there! Candice thinks that it’s so nice to finally meet you two! Come right on in, you must be cold~! ♪”

[❅] - Snowpoint Café is a quaint establishment that’s located conveniently in between a row of the city’s “Ma and Pa” shops; providing them with the daily prospect of new customers and financial gain. Among the close-knit community of Snowpoint, where everyone knows each other’s name, helping one another is quite the common occurrence. The people are well-known for their amiability and kindness.
Aside from what the café does for its neighboring businesses, it also helps those who are seeking a warm respite from the city’s perpetually frigid temperatures. While there may be similar dining facilities sprinkled around the town of falling snow, it offers a variety of hearty meals and drinks at low prices. That sort of bargain is always welcomed by the customers.
Whenever she has the time, Candice loves to stop by and order her favorite: a large mug of hot cocoa with extra marshmallows, peppermint crumbles, and whip cream. It’s always deserving after a long afternoon of Pokémon battling. Plus, at her usual table, the gym leader gets a perfect view of her gym because of it’s nearby location to the shopping center. If there are any trainers looking for a challenge, she can easily pack up and go meet up with them.
So, that is where the young diamond dust girl finds herself: in her perfect little corner of bliss, watching the drifting snow via café window.
As Candice takes another sip from her mug, she grins as the warm liquid slides down her throat; the soothing sensation is absolutely rejuvenating. Although hot cocoa is a staple drink among the denizens of Snowpoint, Candice has never grown tired of it. Each cup is always better than the last.
Musing over the day’s activity at the gym, Candice reflects upon the battles so far. Most trainers were able to defeat her if they were properly equipped with trained Pokemon. Some, however, were still requiring a bit more practice. In such events, it always pains her to deny them a badge, but… rules are rules. Relaxing into her chair, Candice lets out a sigh of satisfaction. While busy days are usually her favorite, nothing gets better than taking a moment to find “your inner zen”, according to PokéFashion weekly.
Casting the gym one final glance (because there are still trainers who stop by after the regular influx of challengers), she allows herself to close her eyes for a couple of minutes; letting the delightful wave of cocoa and peppermint carry her away on a relaxing journey.
However, that does not last long.
From the entrance comes a melodious chime, announcing the presence of a new customer. Hazel eyes opening and glancing upward out of sheer curiosity, a tiny squeal emits from the gym leader as she’s met with the sight of an all too familiar face.
Could it be…?
… Volkner?
It’s Volkner!
But why is he here in Snowpoint? Has he come to visit her?!
Suddenly hyper-aware of her appearance, Candice frantically begins to preen herself like a wild Starly. Whipping out a small compact mirror from her periwinkle bag, she flips it open and does the hair and makeup check. Then, once everything is deemed suitable, Candice tests her breath - deciding to pop a breath mint in - and (casually) stands up from her chair, straightening out her sweater and skirt before walking (not too quickly) over to the blond hunk of Sunyshore.
“Hi, Volkner~! Candice is so happy to see you! ♪ ” She greets, throwing her arms around him in a warm, friendly embrace. The pungent aroma of motor oil wraps around her senses and remains even once she pulls away. It brings her back to the first day that she met him, when the blond was working on his first motor bike.
“Is Volkner here to visit Candice today?” The inquiry doesn’t last long before she continues onward, “Ohhh, he is, isn’t he! That’s so sweet! I gotta tell Maylene about this later! Volkner came allllll the way from Sunyshore to see me, Candice!”
Satisfied with her conclusion, the girl steps back, still beaming up at Volkner (whose expression resembles a mixture of annoyance, confusion, and... something else).
Letting out a girlish laugh, Candice gestures toward his head. “Volkner… you have snowflakes in your hair!”
